Holy crap... who saw this coming??

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/03/12/drakengard-3-drag-on-dragoon-3-in-development/

Few things:
= Sad it's not Cavia...meaning: gameplay *could* get better, but I doubt story will be unless they get the same depressing sadist to write it
= PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND FOOD; BRING BACK SAME COMPOSER FROM NIER :DDDD
= I hope the same artist is back...shoot, I'll have to buy another artbook then. D: Drakengard2 is one of the best I own
= Weird singing bard concept... reminds me of one of the sword level up stories though:

Quote:
Level 1.
What has happened to me?
Every time I wield this sword -
every time I see blood pour
out of my victim’s neck – I’m
overwhelmed with unspeakable
joy.

Level 2.
Crimson blood paints the street
red. It stains my pale body scarlet.
Its vivid hue is burned into my
eyes and won’t leave my mind...
Blood, blood, blood, blood.

Level 3.
The blood gushes out with a happy
splash!

When it’s all gone, I’m sad, so I find
new flesh and tear it up! It’s best
when it’s warm, but I like it cold too!

When it’s dry, it’s not so red, which
isn’t much fun, but it’s still blood,
so I still like it very, very much!
Blood, blood, blood, blood !

Level 4.
BlOody, bLoOdY, BLooDY, bLOod!!
CRiMsOn BLOOD!! BLoODy RED!!
ReD, CrImSOn, SCaRLeT!!!

Never played a Drakengard game before, but the action RPG comment has me intrigued.

the only thing that will save this drakengard game from being bad is a bundle of Nier references

Dragon aerial sequences are also confirmed.

I'll update the OP when we have a "visual" confirmation.

omg, YUUSSS!!!!
Nier music, and Drakengard artist is BACK with old Cavia creative director. I'm so glad they're not just reviving a dead title, they're "coming back" for it.

So ... Does this pick up from 2 or explore a different alternate ending from 1 like Nier?

I've not played the Drakengard titles, so pardon my asking this stupid question, but you mean to say NieR is a part of this series?

I finished the first one and it was really awful. The dragon parts are okay, when you're in the air, but once you get on the ground it's super boring. Like Dynasty Warriors with a bottle of sleeping pills. If the game play haven't put you to sleep just yet, the story has some unique twists -- once you get past the cliché characters and dull dialogue.

NieR continues from one of Drakengard's few endings, the E ending specifically.

That said if Taro Yoko is indeed directing the game, then he has all my money.

NieR is essentially the "other-dimension" off-shoot of the non-canon 5th ending from Drakengard.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G80XpHACiuw

Put in context:
I forgot how, but the main hero, Caim, and his dragon Angelus do battle with the final-evil enemy in modern day Tokyo where the game abandons all of its original gameplay style and does a "rhythm game" instead to take her down. Afterwards, a fighter jet missiles you and your dragon down as both you, the dragon, and the boss turn into ash. This ash becomes an infectious pandemic that infects and causes a case of the crazies that then becomes what is responsible for the slow extinction of the human race in NieR (which is based on a very dystopian future Earth).

The NieR Grimoire translated. If you've played and enjoyed the game's plot, this is one of the *best* videogame-related reads I've gone through.

Why am I just now finding out about this?

In either case, I now need to find copies of these games and play them while I awite the third one.

Truthfully, unless you're a big fan of hack-n-slash AND extremely forgiving of C-grade games, I'd just stick to an LP of the game or read about it. NieR is easier to get through, but Drakengard has it's issues (actually, RPGamer recently did Retro-reviews for Draken1 & 2). I liked the 2nd game enough, but they're extremely repetitive, drab, and slightly boring. It's one of those weird games though; it's not fun to play, but really an experience you shouldn't deny yourself; someone said it better than I did:

Quote:
That said through, that's not the real reason why Drakengard 1 is so memorable. No. Its the fact that both the narrative and the ascetics grow more and more grimdark/crazy until it hits full on batsh*t insanity. Its entirely a game about increasingly bad sh*t happening to bad people while everyone becomes more and more f**ked over. In a way, it turns most JRPG plots onto their sides, since, as often happens in video games, the world starts off peaceful but grows ever more dangerous as the events in the game goes on, but with the caveat that unlike in those games, the hero doesn't magically save the day by beating the big bad, and in fact, doing so just makes matters worse.

^ Literally, the "nicest" cutscenes are the first ones -- it's all downhill, dark, and turns to whatever degrees of creepy after that.

Also, giant cannibal babies and a blood red sky (which is actually the world's natural hue).

I should go back and play Drakengard 2 one of these days, like never because I don't have a TV to plug my PS2 anymore. D:
