Well that's not good.

Namco Logic dictates that games that don't sell well in Japan are not worth localizing.

This may be a bad sign for any potential Xillia 2 localization.

A game need not meet overly optimistic sales figures to do "well".

The 500k it did sell would be pretty respectable figures in their own right even for wholly new motherships, and this reused a good chunk of assets.

It's just that the game industry as of late has for some reason fallen in love with setting overly lofty sales forecasts, even for games that sold millions like Tomb Raider.

Rothcol logic is always wrong anyways.

You figure it out on your own. I'm tired.

Arrei hit the nail on the head. I wouldn't be surprised if Xill2 isn't already up their sleeves to some extent.

And that's like......90% of all journalism.

Ever heard the saying "Don't jinx it"?

We have absolutely NO idea what the fate of Xillia 2 is. I can think of just as many reasons why we will probably get Xillia 2 as I can think of why we WON'T get it. How Xillia 1 does plays a huge factor, however, we cannot predict how well Xillia 1 will sell either, nor do we know Namco's sales expectations.

So, it's really a 50/50 toss of whether or not we will get Xillia 2.

I've never called myself a trendsetter.
But I did consider it applicable to the doom-and-gloom feeling of some of Rothcol's less optimistic posts.

Guys you don't need to be dicks to him in every thread.

That being said, not hitting the sales target is not a reason to jump to conclusions. If you say you can think of as many reasons why Xillia 2 won't make it over, then clearly this bit isn't that big of a deal relative to all the possible factors. If it's a 50/50 flip to you now, then it was still a 50/50 flip before this news. Saying so just amounts to admitting "lol i dunno if it's coming over" which is basically the sentiments of every person paying attention. We're not sure if it's coming over or not; how astounding.

Really the issue here is just about looking into what the "sales target" is and why it was chosen as such. The term sales target itself doesn't mean much to people who don't know why they chose that figure. From a quick look it just seems like they saw how the game was doing a few months ago and then assumed that pace wouldn't drop as quickly as it did, which isn't really something to be concerned about.
Even if Xillia 2 didn't make 650k, it was still Japan's 15th-best-selling game in 2012. That's pretty damn good regardless.

Oh I meant you're the third person to post that article that I've seen online anywhere. I was referring to coincidence, not trendsetting. X3

Haha I wouldn't have taken it personally anyhow.
But I'm not surprised. Certainly been an interesting news week and month so....

If a game didn't sell well in Japan, it would sell worse here.

That's his reasoning.

Their target was way inflated though, 500k is very good (better than Graces f and Vesperia PS3, IIRC) so there's nothing to worry about here.

Direct sequels like this usually tend to sell less than their predecessor anyway.
