I assume there was a topic about this before the blackout.
I played the demo a few days ago and I absolutely loved it, I'm most definitely buying it once it comes out. Been a while since I've been this stoked for a jrpg _________________ [My youtube videos] |

Got my Wizard's Edition preordered months ago and I'm all set to go! IS IT JANUARY 22nd YET!?
My body is freakin' READY.
I live and breathe Studio Ghibli and JRPGs so this is like a match made in heaven for me. _________________

I am beyond excited right now but it comes out right after my winter break ends. ): So I probably won't be able to play it until March when I am with my PS3 again. _________________ Gaming in 2013:

The demo was terrible for a demo. One minute in: BOSS BATTLE. NO TIPS. GOOD LUCK. Died the first time, played it cautious the second and won.
I'm sort of ambivalent on Ghibli and Level 5, but I'll probably get this because I'm so starved for a fantasy RPG that this will really feed that craving (and holy moses, has a World Map ever looked so good???). _________________ Updated Feb, 22,'13~!! *

| I'm just glad the demo took longer than 5 minutes. |

Please, it felt like a demo made last minute, that's for sure. Cut and paste game parts and told you to go to it. They barely give you control schemes or how to perform even basic combat ops. It's was a bad demo. I enjoyed it for whatever it was worth though. So there's that. _________________ Updated Feb, 22,'13~!! *

Don't worry Dice, I agree. The battle system really isn't this games selling point IMO even though its decent fun, but the demo was pretty boring, and the area we got to explore wasn't all that exciting. _________________

Both of you would have preferred a 20 minute tutorial on game play mechanisms, I see. _________________

Uh, I wouldn't mind a one page pop-up to tell me the controls, or maybe one "tutorial" battle before cuing in the boss battle, they don't really tell you that you can run around the battle field, you just sort of get tossed in. And yeah, I didn't know Oliver and the monster's HP are connected, so I went all out the first battle saying "whatever, at least I got my main dude to fall back on".
The battle system seemed kinda weird. I was actually kinda cheesed with the fire-boss fight in the second part of the demo. I wish the monster's big special attacks stood out more, (like Tales games where it's made a header at the top-middle part of the screen). I found the controls kinda sticky too so that even if I noticed the super attack coming, I had trouble getting to "defend" against it.
I have a feeling though, a game system like this can be additive (I've actually heard it gets pretty hard too). I doubt I'll really be in it for the battles, but I did like that brief touch up on helping the apathetic guard by giving him some vigor (I smell side quest material from that). I adored the music, and the graphics (even if not the character models) were fascinating. Oddly one of those games that I'll probably switch my "gameplay is everything" remark to, this game seems more about the sum of the parts for sure. But I'm excited. Between this and Last of Us, I'm psyched as hell for early 2013 releases. _________________ Updated Feb, 22,'13~!! *

I have my Wizards Edition and Collectors guide both pre-ordered. I think it's safe to assume that I am super hyped to play this game.
I played the demo a couple of days ago. While I fully didn't understand the battle system, if there's even much to grasp at that point in the demo? However, I did very much enjoy the visuals and the tease of the world map. |

I didn't really enjoy the demo that much either, but that's because I SUCK at live turn based combat. I start freaking out when I'm being attacked while looking at menu options, I just can't do it. I'm like "WTF I can't concentrate!" it's one reason why I never finished FFXIII....had I realized the battle system was like this, I might not have ordered the Wizard's Edition because I'm afraid I'll play 10 hours and then give up because it'll take me too long to get used to the gameplay and I'll get frustrated (I just suck at that kind of battle).
So yeah, a complete lack of ANY explanation for such a battle system was highly frustrating for me. _________________
