looks like a pretty high quality game though I don't know much about it

but it's also canon to the story. "This is an official follow-up to the visual novel, taking place after the events of Episode 4, canonized and sanctioned by 07th Expansion."

sprites, animation, and (of course) music seem really nice too, so this seems worth getting excited about unless there's something bad about it I don't know of

It also has netplay, I think

...oh I thought this would be localized for some miraculous reason. ;_;

It's pretty damn fun, though obviously not as high quality as BB or the likes. Let me explain a bit.

You pick two characters that both share the same health and guard bar. Inputs are 3+1 (weak, medium, strong, touch) buttons and 4 directions, most characters can chain weak into medium into strong into special/super. There are low/mid/high attacks as it should. Meter is seperated and only the inactive character builds meter, so you essentially have to tag out ("touch") sooner or later. There are various ways to touch:
  • Normal Touch: Touch while idle. You get an extra effect depending on the character you switch out (Battler regens some health over time, Beato lets you use a special for free...)
  • Attack Touch: Touch while attacking. The tagged in character does an overhead and you can keep attacking afterwards.
  • Guard Touch: Touch while guarding. Puts the opponent into hitstun, so you can use it as a reversal.
  • Damage Touch: Touch while being hit. Think of BB's burst. Touch Gauge goes on a large cooldown, though.
  • Assault Touch: 236+Touch. Charges right towards the enemy, you can use it if your opponent is cheap with projectiles, for example.

Another important mechanic is Meta World. For 1 meter, you can activate it during idle or during a attack (where it works as a cancel). During Meta World, you can use a special Meta super and you gain both of your characters abilities, so it's a strong offensive tool. However, your opponent can cancel it by using meter... and you can reactivate it by using more meter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0rGdGFQLLw&feature=player_embedded

Netplay works pretty well and you can also save replays! If there's anything else you want to know, ask away.

Oh, the translation is of vanilla, which only includes Battler, Beato, Virgillia, Ronove, Lucifer, Siesta 410, Ange, Eva Beatrice, Shanon and Kanon. The other characters are partially spoilers for Ep 5-8 anyway...

If you've played the games, I don't think this will disappoint. Stories are p good (especially the joke endings Laughing) and a lot of attacks come directly from the novel, like the Beato vs Virgillia duel.

I think I played a demo of this on the 360. Wasn't a fan, but I think it's because there's a lot of little mechanics that aren't really intuitive with no translation, as RyuHiroshi described.

Yeah, the lack of ingame tutorial sucks. Doesn't help that the AI in this game is cheap as hell, too.
