it's like facebook. but with pictures. and constant back-and-forth circle jerking. and you "follow" people purely based on what kinds of pictures they post. that is really it.

I thought it was just a picture posting/blog writing type site, but the more I hear about it the more it seems to have a sort of bastardization of a culture, or just a cult or something.

Tumblr is basically a blog but it seems to have taken on an identity that's more like...Twitter, with just images.
Specifically 2-second GIF loops of whatever you're obsessed with at the time.
