http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/kill-f-ing-yankees-psys-399245

Quote:
At a 2002 concert staged in opposition to 37,000 U.S. troops stationed on the Korean Peninsula, Mediaite reports, PSY took to the stage in gold face paint and a glittery red outfit, then lifted a model U.S. tank over his head before smashing it to pieces on the ground. The performance was a response to the death of two Korean school girls, killed in an accident with an American military vehicle, according to Korean website BusanHaps.com.

Then, two years later, a South Korean missionary was executed in Iraq -- a revenge killing for the country's support of the U.S. war in Iraq. During a protest concert, PSY rapped on the song "Dear American," "Kill those f---ing Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives/Kill those f---ing Yankees who ordered them to torture/Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers/Kill them all slowly and painfully."

Well I guess his time is over

As well they should, but to be fair, most people do stop short of publically demanding that every US troop's extended family be slowly tortured to death.

I don't know about his back-story, but if US bombed your village and killed your parents... and had troops patrolling your street.... you'd want them to gtfo. Obviously, they are there to "implement" democracy, but they really are not. You don't see any future for your son. You are living day by day, never knowing if you'll have enough food to feed your son... Then, if you somehow watch the news, you'd see that those American citizen, brainwashed by mainstream medias, continue to vote for those same people that killed your family... yep, you'd want them to pay for their ignorance.

Oh snap, that explains why Terrorism is growing in the world.

**Anyway**

I am not saying I support terrorism, I'm just saying I understand them. Understanding why they do this is the first step of fixing the problem... sadly, the leaders of the world still think that you can fight terrorism with brute force "hack Israel hack".

**Don't take it personal too Very Happy I'm, myself, really pissed. It's not really the citizen's fault either... they are being brainwashed by mainstream media. Their opinion is not even their own**

I do not in fact need it explained to me that imperialism is a bad thing, I've been studying this **** for four years. I'm not American and I couldn't be more opposed to them. I don't think your comparison is relevant; he wasn't speaking as a powerless direct victim of the war, but simply as a protesting citizen of an allied country (this could be completely incorrect, but we have no reason to assume so). It's a different context, and not one in which what he said was morally excusable.

Your post suggested that his views were in line with most people's; I strove to draw a line between being opposed to US foreign policy and encouraging the murder of innocent civilians. In this particular instance, he said we should torture American civilians to death because of something his own country voluntarily got involved in. That's a far cry from having your family bombed into the ground, and as an influential entertainer, you have a moral responsibility not to incite that. South Korea is a very insular nation whose propaganda machines are far more pervasive than America's, which probably explains his behaviour, but lets it loop around and encourage some desperately twisted beliefs. If you really want to see people whose "opinion is not even their own" (a disavowal of moral agency which I frankly don't agree with and find all too convenient as it's a complete passing off of responsibility, but by the by), look over there. It's not like he'll have caused direct harm, but relations between the two countries are and were strained enough. It was idiotic and criticism is deserved. That said, he's obviously changed, and it seems pointless and petty to let it hurt him now.

More to the point, the sooner I stop hearing about that bloody song the better.

Well, I don't know what he said or what he did. I only happened to have heard the song because of my sister and saw the video because of Suikoden2.

Like I said, I have no idea what he did in the pass, nor do I care. I was merely expressing why some people tend to hate American's foreign policies.

So... what, you've only read the thread title? And thought that was sufficient to start discussing the subject?
