I'm thinking of getting Legendia and Symphonia in the next few months, but first I want to get Symphonia.

I just want to know if this game is also worth getting. I heard it has great humor which I like. Does this game also have cooking, titles, skits, etc? I heard the battle system is pretty much like the 2D ones which I don't mind at all since I find those to be fun.

Yes. It has the usual Tales features.

The skits are voiced, though they are few and far between. I like the cooking system myself (it's a little different than usual). Especially since you get a scene each time you find a recipe.

The flow's a little different from most of the games, but I enjoyed it, myself.

Also, throwing techniques are CRAZY fun.

It depends. Do you primarily play the Tales series for its action battle system, or its likable characters and humour?

If it's for the former, you probably won't like Legendia. Its battles aren't bad, per se, but not all too great— it's kind of like Eternia, but a tad slower and clunkier— and the dungeons are ridiculously long.

If it's for the latter (or you're otherwise able to put its gameplay faults past you), then you will love it. Legendia has one of the best casts I've seen in an RPG; every character is likable, well-developed, and has great interactions with most other cast members. Better yet, none of them come off as pointless tagalongs— they all have their place in the group.

Other things worth mentioning:

- Legendia might be the most optimistic game in the series. That's not to say that it can't be dark— because it can— but that it generally keeps a positive attitude. As such, there's also more humour than normal in the series.

- Legendia has brilliant aesthetics; boring as the dungeons may be, they look really nice and have some great themes.

- Legendia has, hands down, the best soundtrack in the series. It is utterly fantastic.

So, again, Legendia is a very specific game— if it's what you're looking for, you will love it, and if it's not what you're looking for, you'll hate it. One thing you don't want to do is go into it expecting another Symphonia (if you want another Symphonia, your best bet would be Abyss or Vesperia). It's best to go into Legendia treating it similar to, but not the same as, Eternia.

(and yes, Legendia has all the Tales staples— cooking, titles, skits)

Well, I only played Phantasia so far, and I am currently playing Eternia and the battle system in Eternia is amazing to me. I would expect nothing better than Eternia in terms of the battle system. I am looking for a great character interactions and great aesthetics.

So now I have to decide between Symphonia and Legendia. I am leaning towards Symphonia since I have the gamecube but not a PS2. However, the characters seem more interesting on Legendia, and I do have someone I can borrow a PS2 for an extended period of time.

So now I need help on deciding which one to play first.

I don't think it'll matter which order you play them in. It might be better to play Legendia before Symphonia, but since you already know what to expect from Legendia, I doubt you'd have problems playing it after Symphonia.

So just go for whichever is easiest to play next.

Well thanks for you reply, I decided to get Symphonia first since I have a gamecube and a wii although this great chance to put my wii to good use.

Legendia has the best story, characters, and music in the series hands down. The only thing that brings it down is the actual gameplay unfortunately. It's slow and repetitive, with random encounters and linear dungeons. It's worth a playthrough just for the best parts though imo.

Symphonia was great but I'd say get Legendia before you get to any of the more advanced ones or the backstep in battle system may be too great.
I got ToL second (after ToS) and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I agree that this is probably the ideal way, but since Julio is aware of Legendia's shortcomings, seems to like the things that Legendia offers, and enjoyed Eternia, I don't think he'll have much of a problem getting into Legendia.

that's a good choice (in my opinion) !

In fact, i do not like at all, T.O Legendia... And I trully loooove Symphonia Very Happy ! But i've started with Symphonia first, and few days after the end of the game, I started The Abyss (which was great!!) and then Legendia.
But after The Abyss and Symphonia, I was very disapointed with Legendia! Character, story line, Gameplay... all (in my opinion!) are better in Symphonia (and the abyss) than in T.O Legendia !

Hope you won't have the same opinion as myself Wink and i hope you will like both, Legendia and Symphonia Wink

Honestly, I personally think Symphonia and Legendia have been the best Tales games created thus far. Legendia is actually slightly similar to Symphonia, but there's also plenty of differences to make them both interesting in their own, individual way. I also like the fact that the main character fights using martial arts, whereas most main characters have weapons to fight with. Each character also has their own story and personality that is thoroughly explained and played through. I prefer the Character Quests in Legendia over the Flanoir night scenes in Symphonia, because once you choose a character in Symphonia toward the end of the game, that's the only character you really get to learn anything about, such as major plots within that character's life, for that entire game. In Legendia, you learn about everyone in your party by the end of the game, and you don't need to choose anyone to stick with for the duration of the game.

I would say ToL is well worth it if you enjoy characters, Story, and music. That ad you won't let every little flaw get to you. The Tales game I like the least is Abyss. >_> Was not too happy with that one. Story was nice, and the graphics were lovely...but th-wait, let me not digress here.

Well, ToL in my opinion has the best cast because like it has been stated, they have been well developed. The gameplay may be outdated for it's time but it certainly isn't bad. The only part that might be grating is random encounters. The world map seems to have the intention of getting you lost. That and the voice acting on Shirley could've been much better. But other than that, the game wasn't at all bad. The story held together, the scenery is actually nice to look at on the world map and most if not all the characters are lovable (I say most because like Colette, Shirley is hated by many Tales fans). That and the music is amazing.

If you ever do pick up ToL in the future, then I hope you enjoy it as much as fans of the game does.

Well, the random encounter thing can't really be a major turn-off, seeing a Final Fantasy has that, too, and it's still incredibly popular.
And yes, the World Map is slightly difficult to navigate through at times, even for me, and I'm going onto my fifth playthrough after I finish this playthrough.

Honestly, I like Shirley more than Colette. Shirley actually stands up for herself and such things. I LIKE her, but when you compare her to Stella, she does seem rather plain. Shirley also did need better voice acting. I think Shirley's voice acting was the only let-down for me, even if it WAS good at times. But if we're talking about voice acting, Moses was by far THE best. I love Shiloh Strong - he's the one who actually inspired me to voice act someday if I ever got the chance. He's my favorite voice actor, and I wish there were more people like him in that job industry. I'm very glad Tara Strong, Shiloh Strong and Cam Clarke got positions in that game, because they just helped make the game very worth my time.

True that random encounters couldn't be THAT much of a turn off, but ToL happens to have the right amount of encounters. The remake of a Final Fantasy game recently had too many random encounters way too often (or so I saw in reviews).

I hate Colette in ToS 1, but in Dawn of the New World, she gets to be more mature and actually accept her mistakes rather than acting like a victim most of the time. I still hate to an extent though. Razz

I do agree with you on Moses' voice acting. It fits so well with the character that it makes him believable. That and it makes him a lot of fun to listen to. Makes all of the funnier scenes that much more enjoyable!

Well, hey, use a Dark Bottle in ToL and it's just as bad. xD; I actually dared to try it once, and I have not used one since. I mean, I even have to use Holy Bottles all the time so I avoid going backward, then having to go forward again. Battles tend to confuse me as to where I've already been, where I came from, and where I still have yet to go. Such as, with Chaotic Zones.

Indeed. She's more likeable in ToS2, but the ToS2 voice acting WAS a turn-off. ^^; I like Colette more in the OVA, honestly, for some reason.

Ah, yes. I really loved the part where he says, "Everybody else gets a chance to stand up and say somethin', but not Moses. No." Best voice acting moment for Strong, indeed. Very Happy
