Ugly makes me really sad for a lot of reasons, but one of the main ones being that I went through a similar experience.
~flashback initiation to a very long story~
It was around two years ago during the summer. It was really nice out, so the kids were out playing with the other kids on the street. My brother and sister came booking back to the house, claiming that they had found a cat. We had just gotten two cats a couple of months earlier, so we said we couldn't take it in, but we would feed it before letting him go.
Then they brought the cat up.
This cat had probably been through hell and back. He looked really beat up - he couldn't walk properly, as if his back was broken. His fur was matted and knotted, he had injuries all over...and his poor eyes. One was so badly infected that he couldn't see out it, and the other was blinded - it looked like he gotten into a fight and it took the hit.
My mom and I immediately grabbed a box and put him inside so he wouldn't wander off. (He couldn't even see where he was going anyways), and got two bowls for food and water. My cats were freaking out inside, so we really couldn't bring the poor guy in.
We carried him out to the backyard where the kids paid some attention to him while we figured out what to do. He obviously needed to be taken to a vet, but we couldn't get a hold of anyone to get us there and we were broke. We decided to look after 'Fluffy' until we could work something out. My siblings spent a lot of time with this cat, because to them, it really didn't matter what this cat looked like. He was just a cat to them.
About two days later, Fluffy still at our house, and my parents and siblings went out. I was in the bath when I realized it started pouring outside. ...Then I realize I had let Fluffy wander in the backyard before I went to hop in the bath. I immediately grabbed my towel and the nearest shoes and booked it outside, where Fluffy was walking into the step and couldn't get the strength to lift himself up to get out of the rain.
I picked him up and wrapped him in a blanket while carrying him back to his box. He then rested his head beneath my chin and nuzzled my chin, purring all the while.
I stayed with him in the shed for awhile while it thundered so he wouldn't be so scared.
The next day, Fluffy wasn't doing so good. He was snuggled up to my siblings in the backyard, but he seemed to be struggling to breath, and had no strength to walk around...let alone drink or eat. My sister's boyfriend came back into town and said he would take the cat in.
My siblings bawled and bawled when this cat got taken away, and it took a lot of effort on my part not to bawl like them. My mom called shortly after - they were putting him down. She...didn't stay for it.
Either way, I just hope that at least the last few days with us were a bit better than most of the life that cat had lived.
~
...Aand that's my sad story because I have nothing else to share
(That was a wall of text) |

Aw, sad story Xandy. I hate it when animals suffer like that, makes me so sad. In fact it's probably the thing that gets me closest to crying out of anything else.
@Hotfire: Those videos... :'( |

What gets me are not just the videos, but the commenters that say "lol animals aren't worth the effort." :(
This doesn't compare to some of the things that've been posted, but it's one of the few things that brought me close to crying when I watched it: http://tigrin.deviantart.com/art/Free-to-Fly-186314667 _________________

We've all been there. the times when you feel your friends are growing up and moving away from the very experiences you had together that helped shaped your life.
I can relate. As an artist, it's my job to continue to record those experiences and keep them alive through my work. _________________ |

Speaking of animal cruelty... I don't think it's cruelty going on... but more like neglect...
I've said a thousand times before that my step mom wasn't supposed to ever have a child... so she filled that void with boxer dogs... a few years ago hers had to be put down and my dad bought her a new one for her christmas gift. She of course loved the **** out of the dog, and treated it like her baby so it was never trained properly... until she got pregnant.
Anyways everything changed when James was born and it's only gotten progressively worse for Cocoa (boxer dog who recently turned three). I can't help her I am horribly allergic to dogs, but recently I feel like she is neglected. Jo used to pet, hold and always around her all the time. Now its either yelling for her to go away or kicking her outside. It's not only Jolene, but my father and all of my siblings. I feel horrible for this dog and I constantly ask why they don't give it to someone that would actually care for the dog and give Cocoa the love she needs. Jolenes excuse is that she was a christmas gift, and that she can't give it away... The poor thing is always begging for attention but she is always yelled at and told away. Nothing ever good happens to her either.
That dog deserves a better home than this, even dogs deserve to be happy... Everyone only lives once. _________________

Jeez, I have to write an essay about the meaning of pets in our lives and I got to the topic of my old dog and wanted to bawl.
Then I came into this thread and I felt worse : (. _________________

Animal cruelty doesn't make me want to cry, it just makes me want to give those who are mistreating animals a slow, painful death. _________________

As well it should! Just be sure to piss on their faces when you're done to complete the display of moral superiority! _________________
