It supposedly takes place after the "Episode i" novella, in which Lightning ran off from the rest of the group to some other part of Pulse, so the rest of the cast night not even be in the game at all.

I don't see Vanille and fang being playable. Maybe snow, sazh, and Hope will return I guess.

Vanille's outfit is pretty skimpy as it is. The only way they could really 2-ize her is to make her naked crystal form playable or something.

If they bring back Vanille and Fang, I will rage, not because I dislike the characters(which I don't), but because it would take away from the ending of XIII.
If they imply they can be brought back, I may be happier.

I doubt they'll be left out completely. We'll see them in some way possibly even re-team with them. Vanille and Fang however are the biggest question marks and even then Square may go the X-2 route with those two.

Hopefully it won't turn out like the first game, where the battle system is only fun when you limit your stats...

Well, from what I've read, in the novella Lightning split from the rest of the group to find a way to save Vanille and Fang. So that could be part of XIII-2's plot.

I think, if done right, saving Vanille and Fang wouldn't be bad. So long as they don't do a complete asspull.
