Oh, it's pretty good alright ^^ People just over-exaggerate just how "horrible" it is, when it's actually not THAT bad. People just like to make a big deal out of things, but I wouldn't worry about it too much ^^
Good luck with the game!  I get the feeling you'll truly enjoy it.

It has some of the best skits in the series. References everywhere (though some are kind of lost in English). And Tenebrae trolling.

don't worry about the haters, they just can't accept the fact it's a sequel to a "perfect" game so they expect everything to be like the original even though it sucked.

Symphonia 1 didn't exactly suck. It just wasn't the best of games.
Not like Dawn of the New World was much better. The best thing about the battle system was the addition of Free Run, in my opinion.
Mystic Artes were too easy. >_>

The casters' Mystic Artes took forever, and I liked how they were individual counters. That way, you can't do Tear's every time it fills.

Dawn's filled up WAY too fast. I could do like 2-3 a minute if I used fast combos.
