Hey guys!

I'm doing a presentaion on Tales of the Abyss and what it can teach you (good or bad). I already have a good idea what to write about, but I thought it would be interesting to start an open discussion about it.

How does this game view the world? Is it positive or negative? If you were a member of a minority group, would you feel offended by anything in this game? If so, what?

What do you learn from playing this game? What lessons does it teach?
Does this game cause violent behavior in its players?

Topics:

Luke's change after Akzeriuth

Natalia's change from the past to present

Tear's change of heart

Anise's change of trying not to scandel money from people

(another)

Cloning is ethically wrong. It makes Asch mad.

I was in a rush when I wrote this so I wasn't able to add a lot to it, but I remembered I wanted to talk about Luke searching for a purpose.

He goes on this long adventure to find purpose in his life, but in the end he realizes he doesn't need one. He is who he is and he wants to live.

You could say something about Guy's friendship with Luke.

I'm not sure I'm gonna word what I wanna say right, but oh well I'll try. xP

Hmm. Like, even if you do intend to change for the better, you can't expect people to believe in you at first...but believing in yourself is the only way others will believe in you? This would relate back to the Luke in Akzeriuth
thing. Even if people think you can't do it, you're the only that can decide that.

Corny, but yeah.

You could talk about a bunch of stuff, really. If there's anything I'd add to your list, it'd be (one of) the main overarching theme(s) of the game: the choice between accepting a predetermined future, or standing up and making your own future. e.g: the whole Score issue.

Haha arn't life lessons always corny? But nah, I like what you said. I didn't know how to explain Luke's path of change until what you said just now, thanks :]

Indeed! I already starting making a list as I rewatched the anime series.
The Score was one of them.

1.) Luke looks for meaning in his life
a. Luke kills an entire city and says “If I could make up for Akzeriuth by dying… then I would be scared.. but I’d die.”
b. Because he is a replica he feels he has no place in the world
c. After almost giving up his life to save the world, he has an epiphany
d. He realizes that he does not need a purpose, he just wants to live

2.) Yulia created the Score which everyone followed religiously day by day.
a. People were ‘shackled’ to the Score. Some would ask the Score what they should eat for dinner.
b. The Score is Yulia’s teachings. Ignoring the score would be against them.
c. Luke and friends did their best to change the entire population minds by discussing a life without the score. That the score is only one possible future out of many others.

3.) People’s lives are precious
a. As a soilder, you don’t kill because you like it
b. On the battle field, you cannot think of the lives of your companions. Living or dying. That’s all there is to it.
c. It is a soilder’s duty to protect the civilians. if they are wounded by doing so, it means they were powerless.

I'm kinda adding bits and pieces as I go, so I can take this outline and make it easier to understand when I present it :]
