I plan on picking it up once I'm able, but that likely won't be untill the limited edition is long gone sadly.

I'm going to buy it this weekend.

I've only played The Ark of Napishtim from the series and it is one of my favorite games in the PS2. The only problem was the length of the game, it was too short. I hope Ys Seven can be longer than it.

Ys is my second favorite video game series (after Tales), I will surely get Ys Seven soon, and I'm planning to get The Oath in Felghana and I&II in the future.
For me, Ys is as important as Tales, I still remember the day when XSEED announced that they will going to localize all the PSP titles of Ys. I was very happy at that time. Unfortunately, Tales is not like that since Namco is not cooperative like Falcom.

Really? I thought Ark of Napishtim's length was fine (I uh, actually never beat it...I played it for quite a while though. =/)

Playing it at the moment and enjoying it very much. All my written out thoughts can be found here, but in short it's worth its purchase. I just reached Kylos and keep starting the dungeon there only to get interrupted and having to turn the game off, unfortunately.

Also, it seems more of something to play in short bursts, something I feel is highlighted by it's style of gameplay and it being on the PSP. In no way am I saying it's bad, though. Great fun is to be had playing it.

I just got to the boss of the Wind Shrine there. Fought it once only to have everyone get hit with the stone status halfway through. Fought it again only to have it draw some seal on the ground two thirds of the way through and vacuum everyone into oblivion. I guess I'll try again tomorrow. XD

Yeah the statuses are pretty brutal, though don't think I've run into Stone yet (it sounds like doom). Hopefully tomorrow I can make it there and give it a whirl. Flash Guard is good for keeping the controlled character alive, but I'm still not sure how to protect everyone from moves like that aside from praying they follow me when I get out of dodge.

The A.I.'s seems fairly good at handling itself though. It kinda makes me wonder sometimes, tbh... Rolling Eyes

I adore the artwork of this game. (Anyone know the artist?) It's a shame that the graphics couldn't complement that more, like Lunar:SSH had..

The A.I. can't die anyway, so it's not a major concern as long as you're mostly sticking to one character for the duration of the battle (though I like to trade back and forth at the beginning to take advantage of multiple HP pools). So, even if the boss has attacks that manage to hit everyone, they'll stay at 1 HP until you manually take control of them and get hit.

As far as the stone status goes, it doesn't instantly kill you or anything, but it sticks you in place for several seconds and makes you take a lot more damage, which means you're essentially dead unless someone else in the party managed to dodge it and you can swap over to them in time. I think I went from taking 30-40 damage per hit to something like 240.

I'm not sure who did the initial concepts because they're pretty different (and somewhat amateurish at that), but I've heard that the final artist was the same one who did the Star Ocean remake designs. Seems right since the shade and highlight style is very similar.

The artist is Katsumi Enami, who also draws the Baccano! light novels, and was character designer of Star Ocean 4.

How do you pronounce Ys?

Yiss, or Wy-Ess?

Afaik it's ees, like in cheese.

Please don't do this. Ys I-V are not representative of the newer games at all; VI (The Ark of Napishtim) and the III remake (Oath in Felghana) have sword-swing buttons and play a lot closer to an action-heavy, fast-paced 2D Zelda.

Is that so? Might pick them up too when they come out for PSP and if I like Ys Seven enough. I'll probably play Ys II before that anyway since it was bundled in the DS port.

Katakana is iisu, and it's actually based on a mythical city also pronounced as ees.

Like "fleece". It has a hissing S.

Here are some videos from the old thread:

I&II Chronicles (similar, but considerably more intense)
Oath in Felghana (which plays the same as VI)
Seven

My copy just arrived in the mail yesterday. Playing as Dogi is all kinds of awesome.

Has anyone played both the PC and the PSP versions of Oath in Felghana? If so is either of them a good deal better than the other?
