I think that a bunch of people were let down by this game, but that's not to say it was "bad", it's just hard to make a really good sequel to a game without having people get angry. A lot of people also really like this game, it's just perspective. I personally thought it paled in comparison to the original, I still get sad in the checkout line at best buy when I see it in the bargain bin...it could have been so much more.
That being said, welcome to the forums, and I must remind you that avatars may be no bigger than 100x100 pixels _________________

Besides, it was a spin-off. It was pretty good for a spin-off sequel.
If it were a mothership title, I would LOL. _________________ pascal fc

Yeah, spin-offs usually aren't meant to be taken super seriously. I think this is a good example of "be careful what you wish for", honestly. _________________

This game was better than the original Symphonia.

...Just because you want to get in Emil's pants doesn't make it better, sorry.
But uhh, in all seriousness though, I was initially hoping for a full-fledged sequel but obviously that wasn't the case once its escort status was known (actually I can't really remember if that info was given before or after its release, but I think before). So I tried not to expect too much when I started playing it...took a while for the game to really pick up but it ended up not being that bad I guess, for what it was. I did enjoy seeing the original Symphonia cast interact with each other again, but at the same time, the game probably would've fared better had it been separate from the original Symphonia story and simply expanded on with its own plot. _________________

I never really count Tempest as a Tales game. I suppose, now that you mention it, it does fit the bill of "bad game with a Tales name", just like DotNW. _________________ "TEACH ME ABOUT BAZONGAS!!!"

The battlesystem, maybe. The story is shittier, the graphics are not up to date, the limited gameplay and shortage of sidequests is appaling...
But yeah, spin-off. What can you do? _________________ "TEACH ME ABOUT BAZONGAS!!!"

It was great for a spin-off. Story was short, but nice, and the battle system was fun. _________________

I only kept playing the game for Alice and Decus. If they were made party members as was originally planned, it would have been more enjoyable.
With the exceptions of Alice and Decus, I found all of the new characters either boring or aggravating. Nearly all of the original Symphonia characters were also reduced to hollow shells of their former selves, especially Lloyd (but I dislike him in both Symphonias, anyway), Sheena, Presea, and Yuan.
The game's plot was meh, since it focused a lot on Emil, Marta, and their developing relationship and not enough on the other characters. The plot twist with Emil being Ratatosk was neat, but apart from that, everything was pretty predictable. I will give the game credit for its Bad Ending, though (to me, it is its Good Ending ).
Even though I wasn't fond of the game's plot and most of its characters bugged me, I liked its battle system. It was easier and more fun than the first Symphonia's. _________________ "The new ruler must determine all the injuries that he will need to inflict. Fimbulvetr, I agree with nearly everything you just said, except this bit: | Quote: | | Nearly all of the original Symphonia characters were also reduced to hollow shells of their former selves, especially Lloyd, Sheena, Presea, and Yuan. |
While it's true that most characters were hollow shells of their former selves, Lloyd and Yuan were actually contradictions of their former selves. For example, Lloyd was perfectly fine with 'sacrificing' Ratatosk's vicious side, and Emil (as a whole) in the end. Lloyd's entire character in the first game is that he opposes sacrifices, which is what makes him so different from Mithos (and Yuan).
On the other hand we have Yuan, who instead of choosing the easy way out (turning Emil into a core and sealing him away), 'believes' in Emil's human side and decides to go out of his way to find another way to settle this. Not to mention that entire scene in Asgard, in which he was suddenly nice to a complete stranger and gave out a whole bunch of pointless information about himself.
So basically, Yuan and Lloyd switched personalities for some reason. That's not hollow shells, that's just wrong.
However, on a brighter note, Regal was not a hollow shell of his former self. In fact, he was far more enjoyable than his older self, without going ridicously Out Of Character. _________________ "TEACH ME ABOUT BAZONGAS!!!"
