Actually rather than that, it would be really interesting to have a new protagonist. That doesn't mean Ichigo would necessary stay powerless, but maybe his course of his story will be tied up once the Isshin mini arc is done.
Nahhh, Kubo wouldn't do something that good.

Yeah, so he introduces a new protagonist that will serve the exact same purpose as Ichigo with all the same supporting characters, then run for another 500 chapters before the series actually ends.
No, I'm pretty sure Kubo would do something that bad.

Well, considering this is Bleach, I think it's safe to assume that a new protagonist would have to y'know, be the protagonist. Is there honestly anything a Bleach protagonist would be able to do that isn't just beating people up? (in which case they'd have to introduce a stupid overpowered guy right from the start anyways) Yeah him running around and doing absolutely nothing sounds wicked awesome.
I don't mean supporting characters as in Orihime and Chad, I mean that pretty much everyone important ever has already been introduced. You can't really do much with that anymore. What would happen with new characters? More school buddies with powers?
And the last one was my point. What exactly is the purpose of introducing a new protagonist if he doesn't beat everyone up, and only sticks around for one arc? Can you even call that a protagonist? In which case, another 500 chapters is obviously due. Obviously.

Wow, I don't want a new protagonist as much the length of our posts would suggest, but a few of your points are incorrect so I'll bite.
The first part of what you're saying is just fluff, you're trying to make what is clearly an assumption, valid. Ichigo's job was to basically save people, while I concede it would have to go towards eventually saving the world or whatever, who says they'd just be going around trying to protect people? Ichigo's role was generic, but it was not as generic as just "beating people up".
Everyone important has been introduced? Royal Guard. Vasto Lordes. Also keep in mind there is a hell in Bleach. Yeah they'd have to start out pretty powerful, but I don't see the problem.
About your last point, assuming you've played FE7 (I think you have?), would you consider Lyn a protagonist?
