ORIGINAL POST:

Nothing has been announced other than it's for PS3. There is a piece of concept art shown, but that is it. Nothing has been announced in terms of when it will be released, what team is developing it (I'd guess Team Symphonia though), or who the main characters are.

I'll update this post with more info as it comes.

Disclaimer: No, it is not to early to be making this thread. RM3 already has a thread, and GracesF is being discussed in the pre-existing Graces topic. This was the only game that didn't already have a thread. The announcement thread is great, but it's cluttered with talk of all three games.

Anyway, what do you think of the concept art?

-Hi-res Concept Art

According to Baba, the development staff plans on putting to use the technical knowhow they've gained in 15 years of Tales development. He said to pay attention to the contrast between light and shadow. They're aiming for a completely new type of visual expression, something that's different from the anime touch of Tales of Vesperia and the watercolor touch of Tales of Graces.

Baba says that when he saw one of the concept images running on actual hardware, he was stunned by the feeling of scale. The image he's referring to is the one that looks like the entrance to a cathedral.

Regarding current progress, Baba said that the basic framework has been almost completely finalized, and they're now at the step where they'll add in the game elements. "While we can't share screenshots and characters yet, the staff is putting its full effort into development to produce a game that's suitable for the 15th anniversary."

Famitsu's previews end with a percentage indicating how far along in development the game is. ... The percentage for the Next Tales of game is just "??"

11/23/10:

The official website for the game has been here, with "nto" in the subdomain (for "next tales of"). A new website (that currently just has placeholder stuff) has been discovered here with "tox" in the subdomain, suggesting the title for Tales of PS3 is Tales of X-------. Given the list of trademarks, it seems the title for Tales of PS3 is Tales of Xillia. Not official yet though.

- He feels like he finally able to make what he has been thinking up until now.
- It's great, it's the turning point of Tales of!
- It's like a compilation of the series. The staff is also of that caliber.
- The story and theme are also have been being thought for some years.
- There's a lot to see, like the character designer and theme song artist.

-Outside of Xillia, Namco Bandai also took the opportunity to announce first details on the next "Tales of Festival." Next year's installment of the annual fan event will be held on May 28 and 29 at the usual Pacifico Yokohama event space. Speaking of Xillia, Baba explained how he came up with the title. It’s based on the word "zillion" (Famitsu says "Xillion" though), a huge number. They coined Xillia from that. The "X" represents the unknown and an intersection or crossing.

-This game uses lighting effectively to show contrast between cold and hot
-There's field (I assume world map?). TPS style (I mean, the camera).
-In Link Mode, your controlled character will link with his partner enabling them to do pincer attack, protect each other, doing free run together, etc. Maybe like the upgraded version of NDX's Chain Partner System.
- Retains TP, and there's AC (Assault Counter). All attacks consume AC and you can chain them as long as you're not running out of AC. (So the battle use combination of TP and CC (SP)?)
- Jude is 15 years old. He's calm and composure, but can change impulsively like boys nowadays. When he's investigating mysterious phenomenome, he meets Mira and feels special sense of duty. He adores Mira and wants to be useful for her. He dislikes disputes but is good when he has no other choice. Fight with knuckles. He aims to be a doctor and studied martial arts so that he can help people in need. (my translation of these may be off)
- Mira is 20 years old. She can summons 4 spirits and she's a spirit herself (match the theory?), so she don't even know what hunger is. She won't be hesitant to fullfil her duty. Have none of human's living ability. She's very curious of human and culture/civilization. A natural airhead and hates unresponsible things.

Tales of Xillia Detailed

Famitsu has a big feature this week on Tales of Xillia. The big surprise: the game will switch the perspective from the overhead view of past titles to a behind-the-back view.

Jump Festa didn't have any details on Xillia, but Famitsu makes up for it this week!

This seems like it could be part of a greater attempt at reality, as even the buildings and other objects in town are full sized, giving a great sense of scale as you explore.

The magazine has screenshots showing the game's fields, which are said to have some elements that will get adventurers excited. Quick load times are one area of focus.

The magazine lists five key words for the game:

* Liese Maxia: The name of the game world. The world has spirits, but people cannot see them until they have been converted into solid form.
* Spirit Power: This is like electricity in our world. It can be used for lighting and is also the power source for ships.
* Spirit Maxwell: I'm not sure what this is.
* La Sugaru (??????) & A Juuru (??????): These are the names for the two large countries in Liese Maxia. They're fighting a great war. The latter appears to be a developing nation.

(Note: the romanizations or the country names are probably waaaaay off. The world name is official, though.)

Battle details include mention of "AC," or "Assault Counter." As you perform attacks, you'll deplete your AC. Until this reaches 0, all your attacks are connected.

The game will also use something called "Link Mode," apparently for linking up your characters during the fight (I believe there was some mention of this during the game's announcement last week). When in Link Mode, the character you're controlling is the master. The linked character will team up to surround the enemy, block, and so-forth.

There's somewhat of a separation in ages for the main characters who were introduced last week. Male lead Jude (not "Shuto," as I wrote in an earlier story) is 15-years-old. Female lead Mira is 20. Jude looks up to Mira and wants to be able to help her. He encounters her while investigating some strange happening.

Mira is said to be capable of summoning the four great spirits.

One of the major announcements last week was that Jude and Mira are designed by different character designers, respectively Kosuke Fujishima and Mutsumi Inomata. In an interview this week, producer Hideo Baba says that the two character designers are designing an equal number of characters for the game.

info wrote:
BTW, AC works a bit different from CC. While they share the same function, seems like AC system only consumes 1 point for each attack. So if you have 10 AC, you can do normal attack 10 times, using various attack up to 10 times or spam strongest artes 10 times consecutively. Of course they prepare TP system to balance it.

As for Maxwell keyword (not mentioned by the Furage GK):
-The spirit of element, Maxwell, also known as Master of Spirits.
-Seems like she's been watching the world which supported by the coexistence of humans and spirits.
-The truth about Maxwell has been in mystery for a long time...

And from the interview, Baba mentioned, as what she refer herself as, Mira IS Maxwell (even Jude doesn't believe it at first), but there's still some secret regarding her (the sub event of NDX?).
--------
He meets and adores Mira who has special sense of duty. He wants to be useful for her. He dislikes disputes but will show great concentration in time of need.

Mira doesn't know what hunger is because she's a spirit whose food is Mana. Though she got great wisdom, she's clueless about human's living ability/need.

The game is 60% completed now. Ufotable make the Op and up to 30 minutes of duration for in-game anime.

-In Xillia, you can fight with a single character under your control like before, but linking that character with another one in your party makes the pair of you truly work in tandem during battle. Lots of things can happen as a result of linking, depending on who you link up with, and it can also affect how characters get stronger and the moves they learn.-When you go into link mode, the character under your control becomes the 'master' and is connected with his partner via a light," Baba explained. "During that time, your partner will surround an enemy with his or her master, protect the master from attack, and so on, responding to the needs of the master as the situation calls for it. It works great with the AC system, because it lets you come up with smooth combos while busting out all of these killer attacks in strategic fashion.

Alvin is 182 cm tall, 26 years old. "He's friendly and will approach anyone unassumingly. He takes on a friendly attitude, and skillfully hides his true intentions. While he appears to be living his life by just going with the flow, he's actually planning everything out." Alvin makes an appearance early in the game.

Read the article (the source) if you want slight spoilers for the beginning of the story.

Previous info about DR-LMBS:
"As previously detailed, Xillia makes use of the "Double Raid Linear Motion Battle System." While retaining the fundamentals of the Linear Motion Battle Systems of past Tales games, this new system adds "Link Mode," where you link up your character to another party member for group battle. When linked up, the character you control is called "Master" and the paired character is "Partner." The Partner character will support you, attacking the enemy you attack, attacking enemies who come at you from behind, and covering you from attacks."

But, Famitsu reports you don't HAVE to use link mode.

Each character has special skills, also.

Jude has "Concentrated Evasion."
Jude evades an enemy attack through a back step, then rotates around to the enemy's back side. (around step, anyone?)

Milla has "Magi."
By pressing the arts/skill button briefly, you'll make Milla perform her "Magi" skill. This seems to change the property of the corresponding skill. In the case of a "fireball" skill, the attack will change to "flare bomb," causing an explosion in Milla's hand.

Alvin has "Charge."
After unleashing a skill, keep holding the button and Alvin will switch to "charge" state where he combines the broad sword he carries in his right hand with the gun he carries in his left hand. This changes the given skill into a charge skill.

Skills can be used in link mode and non link mode. Also, they seem to change (evolve) as the character levels up.

There are also something called "Map Actions." When travelling, the circle button may pop up on screen. Pressing it allows you to traverse what would normally be a roadblock. Example given is Jude jumping up, and pulling himself up over a ledge.

Some new infos from Famitsu about Bushingi (martial art?) and Seireijutsu (spirits art?). Those are the action which consume TP.
Bushingi is... well, physical attack using own body or weapon while Seireijutsu is spell which can be cast by the temporary contract with spirits (need chanting time).
Every attacks always consume 1 point of AC.
Jude has Rengadan, Mira has Fireball (only she can cast altered arte by pressing it shortly) and Alvin has Majinken.

The song is titled "Making Fate." Partial Japanese lyrics can be viewed in the picture or in copy-able form here.

English translation of lyrics:

What will we find on the path we've chosen
The answers that we're searching for, or something else?
The promise which we made that day
How long more should I hold onto it? Tell me

Don't cry, don't cry
The time is not right for these tears to travel to heaven
Don't stop, don't stop
We just got started

When the sun sets
I will hold your hand, and set off
I can't just leave you
To face the fate you cannot change
And if saying "goodbye" can change your path
I will shout out my love as we go

Ayumi herself wrote the lyrics, with the music coming from Tetsuya Komura and Yuta Nakano. Nakano also did the arrangement.

Leia Roland (unofficial romanization)
- Age: 15
- Height: 158cm
- "I'm already a good nurse, aren't I?"
- Info: A bright, cheerful girl and Jude's childhood friend. Her family runs an inn, and she is the inn's poster girl. She is a nurse apprentice at the clinic owned by Jude's family. Though she is one who is considerate of her companions, she has a tendency to worry too much. Though she gets heated during games of chance, she values exerting great effort more than actually gaining victory.
- Battle: Leia's special ability is Rod/Staff Expansion. She is able to extend the length of her rod/staff for a certain period of time, making her weapon's reach extend. Leveling her up increases the time her staff can keep its extended state. She can also Back Step.
- Story: Due to various circumstances, Jude is driven out of the capital along with Milla and Alvin. They arrive at his hometown, Lu Rondo (ru rondo), where Jude sees his childhood friend Leia once again. Lu Rondo is a refreshing town rich in greenery with a bright moon floating in its skies. In it, Jude's family runs the one and only medical clinic in town. The town is in need of a special ore that can cure a particular sickness, so Leia joins them to the mines in search of it.

Additional information on Link Artes - When in a state called Link Mode, a gauge fills up when characters attack. Once it is filled, performing the required attacks will automatically perform the Link Arte. In example, when the gauge is full, Jude performing Majinken and Milla performing Wind Lance will initiate the Link Arte Zeppuujin. Alvin's Kogahazan plus Milla's Fireball will result in Gurenken. Well, it was kind of hard to make out the characters, but they almost looked like silhouettes of Kratos and someone else from ToS, maybe Mithos. I'm hoping my eyes are just playing tricks on me because I sure as hell don't want any more damn Aselia games.

If it's another Aselian game, though, we might get to see it over here. Namco knows Symphonia did good.

I already gave my opinions on that stunning picture, if the graphics look like that in the actual game, I'm...game. : p It reminds me of FFVII.

Now, let's await and see how true/wrong these Untia rumors are.

It definitely looks cool. I like the art style. But I would totally love to see a woman as the main character and a guy that is a bard/minstrel with a guitar or ukelele be the main healer/mage type guy. But the area that they are in looks really coolish/beautiful.
