This game is very good, it's plot is sorta weird, but it makes up for it with fiery battles and hilarious skits. 8/10.

8/10

-Plot is strange but enjoyable, you can play it and definatley get into it (unlike certain plots where you just feel like an emo *cough*Rebirth*cough*).

-Battle system was a nice breath of fresh air because it was the first time Free run was introduced. You had all of your AD Skills, FOF's, Mystic Artes, etc.

-Character's were very likeable, some people despise some characters but some people love them. Anise is like my favourite loli.

For when it came out, I'd have given it a 9/10 but as time progresses and other Tales games have been released you will never think it's as good as you did when you first played it.

I've had 8 playthrough's of it over the past 2 years, I could definatley do a 9th.

I'd give it a 9/10. It's not perfect, but it comes close. Oddly, playing Vesperia has actually just made me want to go back and play Abyss. The Vesperia cast just doesn't seem to have the chemistry of the Abyss team.

I give it a 9.

Probably worth a 7, but when it comes down to it, I love it enough to look over many of its faults.

I'll give it a 9/10. Tales games are one of my favorite series and Abyss improves a lot on the already-good Symphonia.

Yeah, I didn't like was Luke's bossy attitude for most of the game, though. Hopefully he has a change of heart when he cuts his hair.

I'd give it a solid 9. It's my favorite Tales game to date (The order I've played them is Symphonia, Vesperia, KoR and Abyss) and it's holding a position that I find almost impossible to overthrow.

There's something really, really beautiful and intimate about the characters' relationships with each other that just makes this game all the more beautiful.

Symphonia's cast always bothered me in the sense that I had 8 party members but really only used 5, and it felt like many were in the party, but not part of it.

Technical-wise, I like Vesperia better since it's beautiful, has voice-acted skits (although it's odd that Abyss has 95% or more of all the game minus skits voiced, while Vesperia has a far lower percentage), and has a very refined battle system. However, I love the game far too much to let those things ruin it for me.

I'd have to give it a 9. When I got it (recently got a PS2 this summer), I hadn't played very many RPGs in a while (previously Nintendo only, so I had an obvious shortage), so I was eager to get into this one and hopefully have as much fun as I did with ToS when I first got that. It was even better. XD While it was my third Tales game, I guess I could say it's the one that actually got me into the series as a whole.

The game has a bunch of flaws, both technical and plot, but I just can't help but love it (especially since unlike Phantasia and Symphonia, I actually like the majority of the cast). I haven't played any Mothership titles released past Abyss, if that means anything.

For me it's an 8/10

Better then Symphonia, edges out just a tad over Legendia, but is weaker then Vesperia.

Especially as it relates to the technical aspects of the game, sorry but I can't ignore the glitches that were left in game, some that were in the Japanese version that should have been found and fixed for the NA release never mind that our version apparently had even new "bugs". Confused

On top of that Vesperia to me, like Legendia, has a more solid main party. Looking back Guy, Natalia (and Asch if you want to count him) were the only ones I never had a problem not the same with Vesperia and Shirley was the only one of Legendia's crew that pissed me off (until she turns on everyone though then she was cool)

I think i'll gave it Exclamation 10/10 Exclamation
The game just too perfect for me in system, music, graphic...etc.

I know that Vesperia is better then Abyss, but what do you expect from PS2 game?

Personal feelings aside, I would probably give Abyss a 7.8.

Being the first Tales I played, it blew surpassed the expectations I had watching the few clips of Symphonia on X-Play when it first came out. The battle system is quick and intriguing, addictive enough for you to actually want to get into battles. It's also deep, but not deep enough to where someone could drown in specifics. The characters, too, are very attractive (some more than others) personality-wise, which makes the sometimes lenghty chats go by faster. The plot, though somewhat predictable in essence, is actually well thought out and executed, considering the series' plots usually being mediocre.

I usually don't care much about graphics, unless they really bother gameplay, and I didn't have any gripes with them in Abyss. The music was good, but now that I know Sakuraba's work I think I can say that it was probably a little formulaic (but it was great on my first playthrough, considering I hadn't played an RPG in years). It's a solid RPG, and an above average Tales game.

I personally, though, would probably give it a 9. Though I like other aspects of other Tales' more than others, I appreciate Abyss for being as solid as it was. This 9 also considers the fact that my favorites Tales, Legendia, only gets a higher 9. One of the few games I would easily consider giving a 10 would be something like Skies of Arcadia, imo.

I disagree though. It's -prettier-, but that doesn't make it better. The characters... lack chemistry so far.

I never ran into any technical glitches in Abyss in 3 playthroughs, either. Oh well. Can't please everyone. ;P

Sakuraba didn't write all of Abyss's soundtrack. Abyss's music is definetely different than say...Symphonia, Vesperia, or even Eternal Sonata, which all have soundtracks that sound...very similar.

I'd give Abyss an 8. If it weren't for the fluctuations of quality in the graphics and for the amazingly annoying loading time which wasted a minute of my life for every 6 battles, then it would be a 10. The best part was definitely the way the characters were developed, and how easily it fit into the plot.

True, I forgot to mention that. Tamura and Fujiwara's pieces on the soundtracks were overall better than Sakuraba's imo.

I'm not sure who else worked on Symphonia (who are Ichiko Furukawa and Makoto Tonosu?), but I heard that Hibiki Aoyama did an above average job working with Sakuraba on the Vesperia soundtrack in Tamura's place. I would say so too, but I'm hardly 2 hours into the game to judge.

The Sakuraba/Tamura combo is nice, but I wouldn't mind if Tamura got more time to solo some pieces. And of course bringing Go Shiina back would be godly <3
