Water Shrine

Serah continued to cast water spells on to the dragon while Lucid was still holding until he and the sword finally fell off the dragon's head. Managing to barely catch himself as he landed.

Grabbing Vorpal again, he swiped at the injury that Lea made to make it bigger. He dodged the dragon's attempts to strike him as he moved back to where Lea and Arc was.

"This is taking forever. Maybe there's a certain spot that's more weaker to water than anywhere else." Lucid suggested.

Serah focused a more powerful water spell and fired it at the dragon's face. "Flood!" The water spell went right into the dragon's mouth, which would have doused any fire that he probably had pre-charged before.

"Um...that wasn't meant to happen." Serah sweatdropped.

-Lea Vodani and Arcturios Farrian - Eurobadalla-

The dragon was really getting annoyed by how much he was being attacked by water magic. He still had the strength to fight, but not much in the way of opportunity. If he wasn't being blasted by a spell, he was getting slashed in the side by a water or ice sword. At that moment, he decided to take this battle to the air. He quickly extended his mighty wings, which created a gust powerful enough to push Lea (as well as anybody else who was within a close proximity to him) back a few meters. Once he was safely out of the range of anybody's sword attacks, he roared loudly once again.

"Dammit!" Arc swore. "What's that beast doing now?"

"Whatever it is, it's not going to be good..." Lea said, staring at the beast above her.

You all shall burn in the dark flames of my power! The dragon's voice echoed more than usual from the air. BLEAK RAZE! The dragon fired three black meteor-like plumes of sinister flames down below at his opponents, hoping that he would hit his intended targets.

"RUN!" Arc yelled as he saw the flames coming down. He instantly dashed over towards Misty and mounted the horse all in one motion. Lea also quickly made an effort to move out of the way of the magic fire.

BLEAK RAZE! The dragon cried out. It flung down three more flames of black fire at the heroes.

"Dammit! He's got an advantage on us now!" Arc said as he continued forcing Misty to run as fast as she possibly could. "He's not gonna stop until we're all incinerated alive!"

=Inside the Shrine of Water, Krip=

Listening to the battle outside taking a ferocious turn, Krip immediately started down a long series of stairs downwards to the dungeons. When he made it down there, he suddenly heard roars and impacts on the ground. Grinding his teeth, he ran towards the back of the room, threw open a door, then made his way through different tubes, pipes, and chambers.

Krip stopped at the biggest one, in the back. The main valve, which had a numerous amount of buttons, levers, switches, and spider webs. He started looking for the right one, noting the roars of battle from above. Of course, as Murphy's Law would have it, the right one was also the largest valve there. Sighing, Krip started spinning the thing. Mechanisms could be heard as the long unused machine started to work again.

=Water Shrine Outskirts, Art=

As he was smashed with the dragon's claw, Art flew off of the snout of the dragon and towards the ground. However, he was smart enough to do a mid-air flip and land easily on his feet. He watched the beast become harassed by the multitude of spells, and waited for a chance.

However, that chance didn't seem to come as the brute started flying into the air. Art stabbed both his swords into the ground, but was still being pushed slightly backwards. He still eyed the dragon with anticipation, wonder what he would do next. Suddenly, he heard its roar, and it started raining down black colored meteors.

So what? Art pulled out his swords and avoided one of the meteors hitting where he was just standing. However, it started another barrage, sending three more towards the ground. Instead of running away, he stared at the fireball flying straight towards him. He brought one sword above his head, then slashed down on it before it exploded in his face. The flames erupted harmlessly behind him. Art looked back up at the dragon, waiting for its next attack.

Water Shrine

"I'm not going to run. One way or another, this thing's going down!" Lucid said boldly and stood his ground. He used Vorpal and Flameberge to volley the meteors back at the dragon, just because Flamberge couldn't do much against a fire type, it made a great extra magical sword.

Once the meteors were volleyed towards the dragon or at least away from harm. Lucid stood posed for the next attack.

Serah had been pushed back by the gust and with her avoiding the meteors, she accidently lost her footing and slipped off the edge of the cliff, but her arms managed to grip on to the edges, but that still left her in a life and death suitation. Dangling off the edge, she tried her best to pull herself back up, but she just wasn't strong enough...

OOC: Noticed when Arc showed up in the battle, all of the men he hired suddenly disappeared/goes unmentioned? XD (Well, now I'm incorporating them in my post)

<Norah Aurelin ~ Water Shrine Outskirts>

After it seemed like none of Norah’s attacks were taking effect on the dragon, she veered her stallion at the edge of the battlefield, watching as the others continue to fight against the dragon. She kept her distance and watched, looking for an opportunity to make a move. When the dragon seemed to become agitated by the continuous attacks by the water spells and physical strikes, it finally took to the air and decided to bombard the group below with black meteorite-like plumes of fire. She was well away from the area of effect of the attack and was mentally laughing as everyone tried to run for cover—especially the group of hired men that Arc had chosen for this mission. They all coward frantically and shrieked in fear, some of the men were struck by the dragon’s attack and Norah only shook her head.

Oh my, Norah thought as her partner was able to parry away one of the meteorite plumes and the flames burst behind him. He’s that strong? I wouldn’t be surprised if he was able to slay the dragon before Arc can.

Feeling suddenly bored with this battle, since there wasn’t much she could do anyways nor her attacks were making any different, Norah ushered her stallion to gallop around the battlefield and swiftly dismounted, using her lithe legs to entered the Water Shrine, leaving the others to deal with dragon. She didn’t care about them anymore and decided to go on a little treasure hunt. Maybe there was something here that was worth her time than wasting her energy reserves fighting the dragon. She wandered the place a bit, swatting away the large cobwebs and maneuvering through the aqueduct pipe systems, heading further into the shrine.

---Thorynn's Side: Vistol Gate:---

Jewel moved to leave and once again, Thorynn's thoughts began to wildly wheel out of control. His reaction was largely one of panic. Having come this far and found someone willing to lend him an ear, that person was about to leave him alone in a city he had never visited before. Over what was in reality, a few seconds but in his mind, an absolute age, he mulled the possibilities of his situation. And the more he considered it, the more he kept coming back to the same answer.

"Wait!" Thorynn exclaimed. "You say your sister is missing? Let me help you look, it's the least I can do in return for you hearing me out!" He sounded somewhat nervous still, but there was a resolute tone in his voice now. He guided Annie round to Jewel's side. "Besides, if she has hair like yours, she should not be that hard to spot!"

---Lanwynn's Side: Forest Road---

Lanwynn trekked down the forest road at a slow pace. Having discovered the path through the forest, she had come across a group of travellers who had been kind enough to tell her she was on the path between Vistol and Alcarth. That then, had settled it, she was somewhere well and truly alien to her, as there was no familiarity to any of the words given by the travellers, save for the remarkable co-incidence that they spoke in the same tongue as her.

As she walked, she engaged the singing of the birds that roosted in the trees about her with a song of her own. To have heard her, any man or woman might have thought her singing to be that of an innocent angel as she regaled the wildlife with a song of joy, hope and contentedness, such was the perfection that was her voice. But it seemed the road to Alcarth was otherwise quiet today. Nobody would hear her for a while yet...

---Fan's Side: Ferry To Lowen Falls---

Fan sat on her bed in her personal cabin onboard the ferry preening her immense, bushy tail. This appendage was one of the two major signs of how unusual she was - traits she inherited from her mother, a fox-like gajuma who had been a member of a teavelling caravan of Gajuma. Had been, because when she was yet only a year old, they, along with her elven father were all killed in cold blood. This was all she knew of them and as the thought of her parents crossed her mind, she allowed herself a rare sigh.

As she was lost in thought, she heard a knock on the door and realised she was sitting there, completely oblivious to the outside world and only half dressed to boot. None the less, she rose to her feet and walked over to the door.

"Who is it?" she softly enquired.

"It's Joshua, the deck hand, Miss Xiang," the somewhat stifled response came. "I just came to let you know that we have sight of Aotea Island and will be making landfall at Lowen Falls in around three hours."

Hearing this, Fan opened the door to address the deck hand face to face. Being completely oblivious of the fact she was only half dressed, she had no idea of the reaction she was about to provoke.

"I see. Thank you Joshua. Was there anything else?" she asked in her distinct softly spoken voice. Upon seeing her, the poor deck hand suddenly had a whole lot else to think about and quickly turned beet red.

"Uh... no, Miss Xiang, that... that's everything..." he stammered, trying his very hardest to look away from the sight before him. Fan's tail swished as she listened to him and his sudden embarrassment provoked a sudden vulpine curiousity in her.

"What's the matter?" she enquired, her head tilted to one side. She was truly naive to the situation she was in, it would seem.

"Um... I'm sorry, but you... you... I... I have to go!" Joshua finally managed, before fleeing the scene as fast as he could, leaving an extremely confused looking Fan standing at her doorway.

"I wonder what was the matter with him?" she said to herself before closing the door and going back to her grooming. She had only three hours to ready herself. That said, she couldn't leave without her tail in pristine condition, a vanity which was the only thing she allowed for herself. This meant, however, she would be arriving in the dead of night, something which suited her ends absolutely fine.

She walked over to her dresser and picked up a folded piece of paper that lay atop it. Unfolding it, she proceeded to read the contents once more, as she had done seventeen times over the course of this voyage. As she reached the end of the writing she spoke once more, the name which was written at the bottom of the page and marked for death.

"Magnus Aeriria."

Lowen Falls

A young elven girl was sitting on a tree branch of a very old oak tree, whist eating a very tender looking apple. She was accompanied by some of the woodland creatures of Lowen Falls, mostly birds and squrriels.

One bird tweeted loudly and flapped it's wings while still perched. The elven girl stopped eating and looked at the bird, almost, translating what the bird said.

She was an Elf after all, understanding animals was a trait among the elven kind.

"Hmm? There's something coming?" She asked, she bit the apple into her mouth tightly with her teeth before climbing the oak tree further up until she reached the treetops.

She had a breath-taking view of the ocean, she could even see the world tree from here. She noticed that a ship was making it's way to the island.

Finally letting her grip on the apple go, it fell easy back into her hand and continued to eat it. Once she swallowed another peice, she smiled happily.

"Ooh~ New people coming to the island? Time to go to work~" She sang happily as she quickily finished off the apple, threw away the remains of it and jumped swiftly through the trees to get ready for the new arrivals.

=Under the Shrine of Water, Krip=

As the one-armed soldier was managing to move the valve, he suddenly heard some footsteps. However, Krip kept turning the valve, slowly, but steadily. Soon, he stopped, nodded to himself, then started creeping to the next valve.

His plan was quite simply, really. Before the systems were placed here, Krip learned that the shrine was sitting over a large underground lake. Only a few pipes connected the lake to the main systems. However, since the lake was not in use, those pipes were generally forgotten by the people. Except Krip remembered.

What Krip wanted to do was make the water flow through an unused pipe which, for some stupid reason, was pointing upwards. Just straight up, for no apparent reason. Whether a drunken constructor placed it there by accident, or a person simply wanted a geyser, no one knew. However, it existed, and so Krip was going to make a geyser. He didn't know if it would actually work, but if it didn't, the pipes would most likely send water up anyways, thanks to a lot of explosions due to pressurized water or something like that.

However, at the moment, there was someone stalking around in this chamber, which gave the possibility of someone tampering with the system. There wasn't really any reason to look around in here; all there was were the piping system, and the Orb of the Water, with a replica of it on the ground floor. Anyone looking for it, however, would be met with a complicated puzzle involving the aqueducts and whatnot, so it wasn't really worth it. In fact, the orb was just a shiny, shiny ball which didn't really do much other than help with the aqueduct processes.

Digressing from his thoughts, Krip drew his sword and readied for any type of ambush as he made his way to the next valve.

OOC: Wow, I sure missed a few cues... DX

-Arcturios Farrian - Eurobadalla-

Arc turned around to see that his men, as well as the other strangers who had joined the battle, were all staying to fight, and, thus, were making him look like a coward. He instantly turned around and thought, I can't be made a fool of... I am NOT a coward! Once again, he took up Misty's reins and made her run as fast as she could... Back towards the battlefield.

However, something else came up that had attracted his attention. A small yelp of a familiar voice echoed in his mind. Looking to where the voice had come from, he saw two hands hanging on for dear life off of a cliff. Arc instantly realized that it was the princess who was holding on for dear life. "SERAH!" He yelled as he redirected Misty towards where she was. When he was close enough, he leaped off of the horse and landed just a few feet away from her, and then bent down to try and assist her back onto safe ground.

Just as he had brought Serah back up to safety, there was the noise of something falling through the air. Turning around, Arc saw that one of the dragon's black flames was falling in their direction. However, it did not strike Arc as he feared it would, but a few meters away. He turned away from the intense heat, but looked back when he heard a terrified and pained whine from Misty. He gasped as he saw that his faithful steed was engulfed with black flames. "MISTY!" He yelled, preparing to stand up and go over to his horse. However, just as he had returned to his feet, the ground began to shake. Right where the flame had hit the ground, a small crack was forming on the side of the cliff. Uh oh... Arc thought. There was no way he could save his horse without causing the ground to fall beneath his and Serah's feet, so he sadly watched as the horse was burned alive.

When the horse fell over dead, however, the ground once again began to shake under the force of the horse hitting the ground, and, much to Arc's horror, the cliff separated from the land. He and the princess were now falling into the sea below!

-Lea Vodani - Eurobadalla-

Lea, on the other hand, though she had turned back as well, somehow making her way back to the Shrine of Water. She went inside, trying to recall which way she had gone when she had escaped the dragon, wanting to retrace her steps so that she would be able to get that thing that the dragon had so badly wanted. If she was the only one who was able to open it, then she should do so. Besides, she figured that it might be a good way to bait the dragon back to the ground. Quickly ascending a staircase that looked familiar, Lea heard noises that she hadn't heard the first time - noises like water flowing and pipes creaking. A drop of water landed on her head, but Lea kept running. She needed whatever it was that the dragon had tried to use her to get, no matter what.

-Jewel Vodani - Vistol-

"Wait!" The boy, Thorynn as he called himself, yelled out to her. "You say your sister is missing? Let me help you look, it's the least I can do in return for you hearing me out! Besides, if she has hair like yours, she should not be that hard to spot!" Jewel chuckled.

"Heh... My sister's hair is even MORE ridiculous than mine..." She said to herself. Turning around to the boy, Jewel spoke up again. "Very well. You can at least keep me company. However, if my fears are realized, which is indeed how things are looking out right now, we might have to go back to Alcarth to continue looking. Are you okay with that, seeing as you just came from there?" Judging by his story, Jewel guessed at what his answer would be.

Water Shrine

The cliff seperated from the mainland which caused them to fall head-first into the sea, at least that's what would of happened if Serah had not acted so quickly, she grabbed Arc's arm tightly and casted a spell that would take them to safety.

"Teleport!" She casted as the two were teleported from their fall in mid-air to safe ground, right next to where Lucid was still fighting and standing from.

"Are you two okay?" Lucid bent down and asked the two. He then noticed that someone was missing. "Huh? Hey, where did that girl and the other two that were here go?" Lucid looked around for Lea and the other two who came to fight this dragon.

Serah noticed the shrine and decided that it would be safer to hide in there. "Please, we must get inside the shrine. I can create a barrier that should buy us sometime to regroup and rethink our plan." Serah told the two men as she pointed to the shrine.

"But how is that going to stop the dragon?" Lucid raised an eyebrow.

"Just please do as I say for now!" She sighed loudly.

"Okay, okay." Lucid sweatdropped.

The three ran into the entrance of the shrine, where Serah created a water barrier that covered the entire mouth of the entrance.

"Okay, that should buy us at least thirty minutes. What are we going to do? Our magic is only doing so much and physical attacks can only do so much." Serah asked.

"Hmm...Now that I think about it. A local told me that in this shrine, there was a powerful artifact, it must be what the dragon's after. I don't know how that girl who got captured by it fits into this though..."

"What girl?" Serah tilited her head.

"I think she could have gone inside here, but why would she? She didn't even want to help that thing not long ago." Lucid added.

"Perhaps she's trying to find the artifact? We should go look for her and that artifact too, it might hold some key to killing that dragon." Serah said.

=Water Shrine Outskirts, Art=

As the mercenary kept stopping the fireballs with his swords, he suddenly noticed one of the fighters retreating into the shrine. "Coward..." he muttered, slashing a plume from the dragon with his sword again. Art was not only stopping the flames from engulfing him, he also deflected some back at the dragon.

In one instance, however, he had missed the dragon, and headed for the cliff side. He scoffed to himself before hearing a terrible scream from a horse. Reluctantly, Art took a glance over towards the site of his deflection to see that...it hit a horse. Oh well.

Turning his attention back to the dragon, he not only started volleying the flames back, he started making his way towards the beast. Taking a chance, Art deflected yet another one towards the dragon, but then jumped up above it and smashed it downwards once again. This caused him to do a "double jump" that allowed him to catch the tail of the dragon.

Looking down, however, he noticed three more of the fighters were taking refuge in the shrine. It was painfully obvious as a barrier encroached the place. Grunting, he started climbing up the dragon, who still did not realize there was no one else on the ground.

=Water Shrine Aqueduct System, Krip=

Krip immediately stopped walking around when he heard more feet in the shrine. Sighing, he decided there was probably no one else outside, so there really wasn't a reason to carry out the rest of his plan. Therefore, he reluctantly made his way back towards the foyer of the shrine, to meet up with everyone.

Suddenly, he noticed a glistening ball in the darkness. Krip froze, daring not to breathe. Seven more spheres glowed in the dark, and there was a sound of rustling.

"Curses!" he thought. "This is why we need monthly patrols in here! Damned rats have to make their nest here! There isn't even any food here, so why do they keep coming back, anyways?!"

His thoughts suddenly popped when the rustling grew louder, and the orbs came closer. Soon, the gigantic spider was right next to him. It seemed to examine him for a while, then lean up on its hind legs. Krip, not even blinking or showing any signs he was alive, remained stationary. Soon, the spider came back down and shuffled past him. If he recalled correctly, that was the direction he heard the first footsteps.

<Norah Aurelin ~ Water Shrine>

As she navigated through the corridors after ascending the staircase, Norah barely heard the faint sound of footsteps behind her, and she glanced back, cursing in her mind as the thought of one of the other people from outside was probably after the same thing she was. This place was a shrine after all, there had to be something in here that’s valuable. She stripped off the mercenary’s jacket, pulled over her gray overcoat, and strapped on the twin retractable arm blades over her forearms. Her coat easily hid her weapons from sight, but as she glanced back, she prepared herself to use them if she had to if whoever was behind her were to catch up.

Though, suddenly as she turned her gaze back forward, noticing some sort of sealed door ahead, she heard a fluttering of crackling noise stop in front of her and bumped into something solid… and hairy. When she looked up, her eyes widened as she let out a gasp of surprise, finding a gigantic spider poised up on its hind legs and fangs outstretched. It stared at her with its many eyes and it let out a hiss when Norah leaped away from it.

She unsheathed her blades and when the spider rushed at her, Norah rolled to the side at the last moment before it lunged forward with its fangs. She saw its saliva drip from its fang tips and she reached into her back pouch, retrieving a small circular vial. Not waiting for the spider to move again, she quickly tossed the vial at the spider and as it moved forward, the vial exploded as it impacted against the spider’s abdomen. It reared up on its hind legs again screeched in pain and Norah quickly hid behind a large pipe, peeking back at the spider. It didn’t seem to notice that she had hid and whoever was trailing behind Norah, they would find the spider waiting for them.

<Alcarth>

Gauge tilted his hat up, seeing that Alcarth was coming into view ahead. He looked back at the wounded thieves in the back of the cart.

"How are you guys holding up?"

"Unh... it hurts."

"Well, just try to stay awake; if you fall asleep, you might not wake up again."

The only conscious thief groaned, holding his gunshot wound more tightly while they rode past the gates into Alcarth. It wasn't long before the wagon came to a stop outside of a large building, marked with an iconic, red cross. Gauge hopped down, and it wasn't long before a pair of officers approached him.

"Are these..."

"Yes sir, caught them alive, but they'll need some care in the hospital."

"These people cost us millions, they really don't deserve to see a doctor."

Gauge frowned, tipping his hat down.

"Now now, Constable, he's still a human being. Can you and your friend here help me carry them inside?"

The officers nodded, and reached into the back to lift the unconscious thieves up onto their shoulders. Gauge helped the conscious leader of the small band up to his feet, moving all three into the hospital lobby. Nurses whisked the injured thieves away, the arduous process of removing the shot pellets embedded in their flesh beginning. Gauge, seeing the thieves were being attended to, returned his attention to the two officers.

"I'll admit, Mr. Cavalier, I didn't expect you would be able to do this, much less, capture them alive. You're worth every penny we're paying you."

"Ahh, it's nothing."

"So, what are you going to do?"

"Well, I'm going to go collect my money, then I'm going to stay in town for a few days before looking for another job."

He tipped his hat to say goodbye, walking out front to where the wagon waited. He unhitched one of the horses from the limbers of the wagon; it was a beautiful working horse, with a coat of dark brown fur. He hopped up on the horse's back.

"Come on girl, let's go."

He kicked against the horse's sides, and it began to trot forwards.

-Lea Vodani - Eurobadalla-

Lea quickly ascended the many stairs of the shrine and found the door that had been bashed outward from the first time the dragon landed. Inside, there was a giant spider, glowering at her with angry eyes. Lea pointed at the creature with her stone sword and whispered an incantation which once again magically sharpened the weapon.

She was ready to take a slice out of the spider, when, all of a sudden, there was a sickening crunch. On the positive side, the spider had been squished by the dragon coming down in on top of it. On the flipside, the dragon was now inside, staring evilly at Lea.

"Damn, didn't expect this..." She growled.

Come to open the shrine, Maiden? The dragon laughed. How kind of you to change your mind for me~~~ He reached out a claw for Lea, who stabbed it with her enchanted sword. The dragon roared, even though the sword didn't even break his skin.

"Who said it was for you?" She spat. "Maybe I'm gonna use it for myself and DEFEAT YOU WITH IT!" She thrust forward, sending the claw back. She then dashed forward under the dragon's feet. The dragon turned around to grab her, but missed and fell over onto his stomach.

Damn you! It yelled. You'll never slay me, even with that power!

"Let's see if it works..." Lea walked up to the shrine and placed her hand on the lock, but it pushed her away. "...Huh?"

What? The dragon said in surprise. But that means... But the prophecy said that a country girl with purple hair... He paused. It's your sister, isn't it? Lea gasped. Ha ha ha! Your sister will be mine!

They decided to make haste and ran down the area. They suddenly heard a loud noise from further up ahead.

"I didn't like the sound of that, you don't think..."

"Oh no! The dragon's already inside! We have to help that girl before it's too late!" Serah gasped and the trio continued to run down until they found the same girl that Lucid was talking about.

"So that is her? Thank goodness, she seems unhurt."

"Yeah, but that dragon is there too." Lucid armed himself just in case the dragon tried to attack again.
