Here's a video about the art direction the studio has taken with the game.
I dig the character designs and their "origin story" and the gameplay doesn't seem bad at all. Very Kid Icarus: Uprising.
As noted in the video, their style was inspired by Hayao Miyazaki and Avatar: The Last Airbender,
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/yars-revenge-remade-into-an-anime-inspired-rail-shooter/ and they think their game has a Panzer Dragoon or Star Fox-y feel.
This is what companies like Atari and Konami need to be doing. They have such strong libraries and they waste them on stuff like Alone in the Dark 2008 and Rush'N Attack: Ex-Patriot. They need more stuff like Yar's Revenge and Hard Corps: Uprising (amusing coincidence in the names there.)
Consider me sold, Atari.
Also, the moving of the apostrophe amuses me for some reason. _________________

I'll probably be keeping an eye on this. I don't really play rail shooters that much anymore though. _________________

Oh my god. It has crazy Atari-style graphics that look just like the safe area as a throwback. The art style keeps looking more and more wonderful.
I also dig how, although at first it seems cliche that they made Yar so beautiful or what-have-you, they contrast it with her inhuman appearance, having multiple limbs and insect wings and such.
I'm definitely seeing the Avatar inspiration. Thanks for the clarifcation, Charlie.
Also, the fact that you have to be dodging these metallic "background" obstructions reminds me distinctly of Ikaruga. Did the Sin and Punishment games have the same gimmick?
Oh, hey he mentioned it (I'm writing as I read; noticed the safe area from the thumbnail.) Also, Rez. I can see that.
Also hell yeah for the comic being included; can't get THAT through Game Room! Also, return of the Zorlon cannon, nice. The missile system's a bit strange having limited ammo but with six targets per round and plenty of pick-ups, it's not bad by any means.
And he does actually link jungles and Avatar so yeah. I'm gonna edit my first post so it's correct. Charlie's got my original quoted so my failed comprehension is still on display, oh no!
And the shooting-off-pieces-of-the-boss reminds me of Ikaruga too...But I suppose that's more the setting/environment.
So yeah. I'll be getting this on XBLA and Steam. _________________
