A couple of ToL questions (possible spoilers).

Two things I don't quite understand in ToL:

1). What's with Senel's fingernails glowing just after the Altar of the Sea? I would have thought it was his eres returning if that actually made sense and explained his sudden collapse but it doesn't.

2). Why does everyone pronounce Merines' as though it were "Merines", rather than "Merines's"? From what I can tell, "s" is normally only dropped when written.

For the second question, there's a wide range of accepted pronunciations based on dialect. [iz] is but one possibility.
