I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but what is wrong with the time here? I'm smack bang next to GMT and the closest I can get to my actual time is GMT +13 hours.

And it's still about 3-4 hours off.

I think it has been off for almost a year now.

I have almost made it around the world in setting it to display a near correct time.

It just keeps getting worse even when we bug people to fix it. It never stays right for very long.

Yeah, I don't even bother looking at it anymore. I also stopped trying to fix it to get to close to my own time, since everytime I do, it gets skewed a few days later.

We are all obviously stuck in a time rift that exists in cyberspace. Time flows at various speeds, with the forces of velocity, acceleration, and jerk of time all thrown out of whack.

Yeah the constant downtime periods we had during the last year pretty much destroyed the clock from ever being "normal" again. Confused

I know...I've only been here since summer of '08 and I could tell the time was way off from the start.

Oh, this is convenient. I'll just use this topic instead of posting another one temporarily.

Testing clock offset...

EDIT:

30 May 2009, 11:34:34. Clock is offset -13:30.
4 Jun 2009, 12:14:56. Clock is offset -13:36 (approx.)
21 Jun 2009, 11:20:40. Vis. 20 Jun 2009, 18:40:41. Clock is offset -16:40.

Bull****ting the timezone to get the clock to the nearest hour is pointless since it's still off by an oddball 12-28 minutes anyway.

I---

...

Oh, you're right. I don't know how I didn't notice that. (I guess I saw a 3 instead of a 5...?)

It might've changed since you last looked at it. I think it gets pushed around by a couple of minutes every time we have a critical error, which is, like, twice a day or so.

Yeah, it's gone from an offset of -13:30 on 30 May (within fifteen seconds of that!), to -13:36 now.

Back then I thought I saw a 3 or something for the posted time, minutes, tens position, instead of a 5.

According to Lao, this error is caused by some UNIX thing.

What?

No, the clock's simply not set correctly. <_<;

You obviously were NOT paying attention at all or making any effort to understand whatsoever, if a) you thought the issue was related (HOW is it related AT ALL? Think before you speak!), b) that's all you can explain of the issue. It's seriously disappointing when people make so little freaking effort to think or learn. This isn't theoretical physics.

The 31 December 1969 issue is caused by a timestamp being set to 0. UNIX timestamps count the seconds since the UNIX epoch, which is 1 January 1970 at midnight UTC (for our purposes, same as GMT). For example, a Unix timestamp of 25296412150 means that many seconds after 1 January 1970, midnight, which is around 13 December 2001 2:45 pm UTC.

... no relation to the clock being 16 hours and a bit off.

Lao, you speak more like a giant technical computer than a regular person. Just because most people don't know scientific terms or that a bunch of scrunched up numbers mean something in the deep hard wiring of something, doesn't mean they aren't smart or that they are not making an effort to learn.

If you're such a huge advocate of learning, you'd realize making mistakes and asking questions is apart of understanding. Maybe you are super intelligent, or maybe you're just arrogant in the ton of trivial knowledge most wont understand, I dunno. But I am a little tired of you going on these giant tirades when someone asks a question or make a comment you deem too obvious/stupid.

At least don't be so uptight about it.
