Hopefully a Baten Kaitos forum would gain as much popularity as the ToS forum. ToS seems to be fairly well known but I don't seem to hear too much about Baten Kaitos. Sad

People are apparently turned off by the Card battle system. *shrug* I don't play a lot of card games, so I don't mind at all.

I hear that the cards dont slow down the battle system at all, their just like options in a menu from what I gather, and can change over time (the bannana card can start unripened and can cause damage, then over time become ripe where it heals your party, then later become brown and rotten where it causes damage)

IIRC Baten Kratos had horrible sales in Japan. I remember I was shocked to see it so low.

i saw a 5 minute long gameplay movie for this game and it looked awsome the cards are more an attack menu then anything else. the battles are pretty fats paced as well.

If theres gonna be an official Baten Kaitos forum, then it might as well be part of the official site...which i doubt would come out anytime soon since the game is still a long way from being released.

And i was surprised at the low sales of the game in japan as well. It had good ratings and everything, but i guess all the RPG fans in Japan had already jumped over to the PS2, leaving the gamecube dry. Unlike Japan, however, i know that alot of gamecube owners in NA are still fans of RPGs and are ailing for more RPGs on the console. Thus, both ToS and BK should sell considerably better in NA than in Japan, IMO. But ofcourse, BK is gonna need a hella lot more hype and coverage if its gonna sell, cause most ppl seem to be turned off by its card battle system for some reason...(often mistaking it for something like Yu-Gi-Oh or Lost Kingdoms, which is ridiculous).

Actually, that would be me. Confused

I got burned, badly, by three recent games that relied strongly on cards: Phantasy Star Online Episode III, FFT: Advance and Lost Kingdoms I (I rented part II) and I have since been very reluctant to trust any games that have anything to do with cards but for some reason... I'm really looking forward to Baten Kaitos (and I've little to no anticipation for the Kingdom Hearts GBA game due to it being card based). I HOPE I'm not setting myself up for another burn but somehow I'm thinking it's not going to end up that way. I've seen the trailers for BK's battle system at gametrailers and it really appeared indepth and looked like a lot of fun. And I wouldn't want to end up missing a possibly great game because of personal bias. I mean, not all games that utilzed cards were bad. Arcana and Ogre Battle on SNES had cards and were good games.

I think the big slogan for this game should be:

Yes, it has cards, but its FUN!!!

I think most people are turned off by Baten Kaitos because they see cards and thus assume that it's a card game like Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, or PSO Episode III. I think if more people knew that the cards were just a more interesting way to represent the typical RPG menu, while adding in the possibility of combos, then more people would be as excited as I am about it Very Happy

cards are frustrating if u cant get the ones u need in battle and u end up fighting a long fight with weak attacks

the cards arent really randomized I dont think...you have a deck, and everyone has cards and each one represents an action that you can take, and you can create combos by using different cards at the same time

and cubre, that sig is hilarious, where did you get that? Laughing
