Here is chapter 2 people. BTW, no action in this one. Sorry.

Chapter 2-Girl of Mystery


Ridus woke up in a dazed state. His vision was blurry and his head felt like there was a drum beating inside. When he finally regained full consciousness, he remembered what had happened with the phoenix they he had seen in the cave during their exam. He quickly began to panic, scrambling in the bed. Two forceful hands came down on his shoulders. “Calm down. You’re safe already.” a familiar voice said nonchalantly. He quickly calmed down and began to think clearly.

“Who are you?” Ridus asked the girl standing above him. She had saved him, yet he didn’t even know her name.

“My name is Scarlette Atilion.” she said. “A thank you would be nice for save your sorry behind.” she said rudely.

“I didn’t need help from you. I could have blocked that shot with no problem.”

“That’s not how it looked.” Scarlette teased with a sly smirk on her face. She returned to the corner of the room and sat down on one of the chairs there.

Ridus was finally able to take in where he was. He was in a small room which had a yellow-orange colour because it was sunset. There was a small window to his right with translucent drapes hanging at the sides. The door was on his left and there were four chairs side by side at the other end of the room beside the washroom.

After he was done analyzing where he was, he broke the silence in the room. “How long have I been asleep?” he asked her.

“About exactly 2 days.” she said looking out the window. “You took a lot of damage to your head the doctor said.”

“2 days?!?!” said Ridus shocked. “I missed the graduating ceremony! You guys could have woken me up!” said Ridus obviously infuriated. He whipped off the sheets of the bed and stormed into the washroom. He quickly changed his clothes and exited the washroom.

As he reached for the door to exit the room, Scarlette grabbed his arm. “Where do you think you’re going?” she said questioningly.

“To see my commander, where else?” he said, trying to tug his arm loose of her grip. For some reason, he couldn’t get loose.

“The King has ordered an audience with you.” she said. “If we go see him and inform him of the situation that happened, he’ll probably make sure you graduate personally.”

She let go of his arm and allowed him to walk out the door as she followed. He tried walking at a fast pace to try and lose her, but she had no problem keeping up with him. They exited the building and entered the streets of Lavalir.

There were tons of people bustling down the streets, all busy buying food and other items from shops or trying to get somewhere else in the kingdom. In the near distance was the castle. Ridus turned his head towards Scarlette, whom he had just met and knew nothing about. “Where are you from?” he asked questioningly. He knew he hadn’t seen her around here before.

“Why the sudden question?” she said uninterested.

“Don’t answer my question with a question.” said Ridus.

“Humph.” she shrugged as they turned a corner t the next street. “I come from the continent of Areal-Gentir, though I am not a half-breed.” she replied to him.

“If you’re not a half breed, then why did you live there?” he asked. He was sort of curious about the girl’s history.

“You asked too many questions kiddo.” she replied coldly. “Let’s just deal with what’s at hand before we can chit-chat, alright.”

Ridus gave her a harsh glare before turning his attention towards the road. They both walked in silence the rest of the way to the castle. They came to the entrance where 2 guards stood watch. “What business do you have in the castle?” the guards replied in unison.

“We have an audience with his Majesty King Salvat III.” replied Ridus. “It’s about the exam incident a few days ago.”

The soldiers looked at each other, and then back towards Ridus and Scarlette. “Alright, you may pass.”

They walked into the castle lobby down the hall towards the audience chamber. On the sides of the hall were portraits of previous kings that ruled the land of Lavalir. Scarlette stopped in her footsteps and made a quiet gasp. Ridus turned around a looked at her. “What’s wrong?” he asked.

She shook her head. “Its nothing.” she said she continued to walk ahead of Ridus. Ridus followed her previous gaze to a rosary like chain hung up and encased in glass at the end of the hall above the entrance to the audience chamber. There was a pendant on the end with and emblem engraved on it.

“Wonder why she was looking at that.” he thought to himself. He followed behind her into the audience chamber.

The king, along with his 2 daughters sat on their respective thrones, while beside the king stood a sophisticated looking woman who seemed to be his advisor. The two of them walked towards the king and bowed before him. “Raise your head, Ridus and…” the king paused, not knowing the young girl’s name.

“Scarlette Atilion.” she replied with a smile. The king nodded. “I have already heard what has happened, so I would like for you to explain to me what you saw.” he said, motioning towards Scarlette.

“Well, a strange monster known in old records as a phoenix was found in the cave that was used for Ridus and his team’s exams.” She explained briefly.

The advisor suddenly moved and began to spoke. “Your Highness, I do advise you that it wouldn’t be wise to believe this stranger so easily.”

He turned towards his advisor and put his hand up. “It’s ok Athena. We can trust them, especially because Commander Rey was there as a witness.” He turned his attention back to Scarlette and Ridus. “Hmm. I see.” He rested his head on his hand and tilted it to the side, as if wondering about something. “I am very grateful for what you did for these boys, but I would like to known what you were doing in that area.”

“I-I-I,” she stuttered, unable to find what she wanted to say. “I am not able to say why I was there at the moment.” She said shamefully, lowering her head.

“Very well.” Said the king with a hint of disappointment in his voice.

The twin princesses spoke for the first time they were there. “Father, I do believe it is time for our special meeting.” reminded the girls.

The king stood up out of his throne. “I do have some business I have to attend, so I will talk to you two later.” He walked beside Ridus and whispered to him, “Go see your commander about your graduation present. I’m sorry we could not have a replacement ceremony.”

“It’s ok. Thank you Your Majesty.” said Ridus happily.

He followed the princesses, the advisor, and Scarlette out into the lobby and then walked with Scarlette out into the front of the castle. It was late in the afternoon and the sun still shone brightly with a few puffy clouds surrounding it. Ridus looked towards Scarlette. She seemed to be in a deep reverie about something.

“What’s up with you?” asked Ridus inquisitively. She seemed to be like this after seeing that necklace in the castle.

She shook her head, coming out of her reverie. “Oh, nothing,” she said casually. She gave a loud sigh. “I have some things to do, so if you don’t mind, I’m going to leave now.” she said gruffly.

Ridus gave her a sour look. “Fine, whatever. I have things I need to do anyway too.” He stormed off down the street, leaving the anti-social girl alone.

She looked at him as he walked down the street, disappearing into the crowd. “How the hell could a kid with that attitude become a soldier?” she said aloud to herself. She shrugged her shoulders and walked her own way.

“There you go,” said Rey. “Now you look like a true kinght.” He smiled happily and clamped his hands down on Ridus’ shoulders.

Ridus turned towards the mirror and looked at himself. He liked the way the uniform looked on him; the high black collar, the Lavalir crest going down his robe, the high knee boots that gleamed in the sun, and the long leather gloves that went from his fingertips to his biceps.

“It looks…good.” he said, surprised that it actually did look go on him. “Thanks a lot Commander.” he smiling happily.

“No problem Ridus. Oh, by the way, you’ll be getting your sword once you start your missions.”

“But I thought we got to use a sword of our choice.” he said in a whiny voice. He already planned to have Tyren make him a sword. Tyren was a well-known blacksmith all over the world. He came to find work in Lavalir 4 years ago, and has since found a job here as a blacksmith for the Knights of Orealon. Although he makes swords for them, Ridus would usually get things specially customized from him.

“You already know that is when you start to move up the ranks. For now, you need a standard one. Now quit your whining.” replied Rey curtly.

Ridus mumble a few words under his breath. “Fine. Well, I have other things to do I’ll see you later Commander.” He walked out of the room and back outside into the streets. It was now evening, with the sun setting, giving the rest of the kingdom a golden-yellow glow. “Might as well go check in with Tyren anyway.” He said to himself. He walked past all the shops that were all closing by now. He turned the corner and entered a small shack at the end of the street.

As soon as he entered, he felt the hot air rush towards his face. The old man sat concentrated on his work in front of him, banging his hammer with the hot piece of metal. “Hey, Tyren,” yelled Ridus. The man didn’t respond. “Tyren.” There was still no response. Ridus walked up to him and knocked him in his head. “Damn it Tyren would you pay attention.

The old fellow turned around and looked at Ridus. “Oh, it’s you. I didn’t even hear you come in.” he said grinning widely.

“Old senile geezer.” Ridus said to himself.

“I’d appreciate it if you didn’t call me such name young fellow.” he said.

“It’s true.”

“Well, whatever. What do you need anyway?” he asked.

“I would like you to make me the sword you already started working on. If you can, I would like it to be done by tonight.” said Ridus.

“Sure, I can have it done by tonight, after all, the frame is the longest part and that’s already done. Why tonight though?” he said curiously.

“I need it so that tomorrow morning I can wake up early and start practicing.” he said confidently.

“Well, alright. Just be sure to come back tonight, but not too late.”

“Alright, no problem. Thanks Tyren.” The man smiled at Ridus and continued on doing his work. Ridus turned to leave the shack and head towards home.

“Mom, I am home.” yelled Ridus, opening the door to his home. He took of his new boots and stepped in the kitchen, where his mother cutting up some vegetables.

“Ridus!” she exclaimed. She dropped the knife and ran towards him. “Are you okay? Are you fine to be out of the hospital already?” she said while giving him a flurry of kisses all over his face.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m ok. The doctor said I can leave.” he said pushing her off.

“Alright. Thank goodness.” she said. She turned and went back to preparing her meal. “Are you hungry dear?” she asked, still cutting up vegetables.

Ridus looked at his stomach and heard it growling. He hadn’t had time to realize he was hungry with all the stuff that had been happening lately. “Yes, really hungry.”

“Okay, well dinner will be ready soon, so in the meantime, you can eat some of the meat pie I made earlier on the counter.”

He took 5 of the meat pies and went to his room, sparing no time on eating the food. So many things had happened to him through out these past days, especially about that you girl who saved him; Scarlette Atilion. He wondered who she really was. Maybe he would she her again some day. As he finished the last meat pie, he laid down on his bed, and slowly closed his eyes.

Ridus woke up and looked towards the window. It was now night time. “Better go get the sword from Tyren.” He got out of his bed and walked outside. The lights from the houses and the street lights gave the streets a dark blue colour. He walked down the stone path towards the shack. The light inside was still on. As he walked towards it, he heard a bunch of yells coming from down the street. As he ran to get a better look, a figure in a dark red cloak came running past him, almost knocking him down.

“Get him!!!” soldiers yelled from the castle running after the culprit. “He has the artifact!!!”

Ridus ran quickly into Tyren’s shack. “Tyren, are you done making the sword?!?!”

This time, he heard Ridus the first time. “Yep it’s all done.” he said. He grabbed the sheathed sword and tossed it to him.

Ridus grabbed it quickly and ran out the door. “Thanks a lot Tyren.” he yelled back. He then ran down the street where the hooded figure was running. Since Ridus had officially become a knight, he felt like it was his duty to help out the kingdom in anyway necessary; that meant catching whoever was responsible for stealing from the royal family. He saw the hooded figure jump over the gate to the kingdom, leading to the forest, so Ridus followed suit. Ridus felt like he was doing a good deed, but was getting way more than he bargained for.

That was a great chapter Swordboy, but I don't know if you noticed but in the part "I came to find work in Lavalir 4 years ago, and has since found a job here as a blacksmith for the Knights of..." shouldn't be written "he came to find work..."

Man, Nobody and Swordmaster, ya'll are really making me anxious in getting my first chapter out. I'm going as fast as possible but I just write too much :X.

Ok. Here's the next chapter, so I know the one before had no action but this one made up up for it. ENJOY!

Chapter 3-Revelation in the Night

Ridus ran through the dark forest after the thief through the darkness. It was hard enough running through the forest with the branches tearing at Ridus’ clothes and faces, but through the darkness just made everything worse. He could barely see the thief running through the forest. Just when he thought he wouldn’t be able to keep up with them, they stopped at a clearing where the moon shone brightly, giving it a silver glow.

The thief turned around and stood face to face with Ridus. He couldn’t see her face because of the light causing the shadow over their face. “I don’t know who you are, but you will return whatever you stole from the kingdom.” he said, slowly unsheathing his sword. The thief whipped out blades from their wrist, and then Ridus recognized who the thief was. “So it’s her.” He said to himself. He charged at her with his sword, and as she blocked, he quickly moved to her side and pulled down her hood. The light revealed the thief to be the scarlet-haired girl he had me before. “So it was you who stole from the castle.” said Ridus, confirming his suspicions earlier.

“Humph, this little brat again,” said Scarlette aloud to herself. “You couldn’t handle that monster in cave before, what the hell makes you think you can handle me?” she said, grinning dangerously.

“I was distracted that time with my comrades.” said Ridus, just trying to make an excuse. He briefly remembered Kiezl and Riel, wondering if they were alright from their injuries. “But the same won’t happen this time.” he said. He brought his sword to his face. “As a Knight of Orealon, I swear will not lose.”

Scarlette brought her blades towards her face. “We’ll just see about that.” She rushed towards him her blades dangling at her sides. She quickly tried stabbing at Ridus’ face, but he dodged the blows with no effort at all. “What the hell is happening?” she said to herself. “How come he’s so quick now?”

Ridus jumped back and quickly slashed towards the girl’s shoulders. She managed to block it, but was forced back. Ridus felt some sort of energy forming around him. Small blue spheres of energy started to appear around him. “I don’t know what this is, but it’s making me a hell of a lot faster and stronger.” He waved his sword and pointed it towards the girl. “As I told you before, I will not lose.” he said.

“Just shut u-,” said Scarlette, but she was cut off when she noticed Ridus right beside her.

“Too slow.” he yelled out, kicking her in the side sending her flying towards a tree. She got up lazily and held an attacking stance once again.

“Damn it. Why can’t I beat him?” she said to herself. She looked up at Ridus and was in shock. “Eth…er!? Why the hell is there an ether aura around him? He’s a human. And not only that, it seems to be… different.” She dashed towards him. “No matter, I’ll still beat whether you use ether or not.” she said arrogantly.

“Try it!” yelled Ridus smirking. He swung his sword down, but she blocked it with one hand. With the free hand, she tried stabbing him in his side, but he dodged quickly and pushed he back. “So you’re finally getting serious huh?” he said mockingly.

“I’m always serious. I never played around.” she said just as mockingly.

“Then I guess your just weak in general then.” he replied.

“We’ll see about that.” she said. The two dashed of towards each other, ready to clash again.

“What?!?!?!” yelled the advisor. “When did this happen?”

“About 10 minutes ago.” said one of the knights. “We reported back here to alarm the king.”

“If you guys, the knights who were in pursuit returned, who is in pursuit of the suspect right now?” she asked.

“We spotted a knight still pursuing the thief, so we returned in order to see what further action should be taken.”

The advisor put her chin to her hand. “A group of knights will come with me in order provide support to the one knight. I will act as a witness on the behalf of the Royal Family. You, go inform the king of what has happened and tell him I am at the scene right now.”

“Yes ma’am.” said the soldier. He ran quickly towards the king’s chambers. She ran down the stairs to meet the knights in front of the castle.

“Okay. Let us beginning pursuit of the thief at once.” she yelled.

“Yes ma’am.” the knights replied in unison. They all ran off down the streets to the forest on the edge of the Lavalir kingdom.

Ridus stuck his sword in the ground and began panting, beginning to become tired because of the long fight they have been having. Scarlette had managed to stay on par with him even though he was using ether, through the use of magic spells. He had been able to dodge all her spells, but causing him to run too much and tiring him out. “Damn. I have to finish this before I become too exhausted to fight.” He charged once again towards her, sending a flurry of slashes towards her.

She managed to block them just barely. She quickly parried him to the side. Throwing him off balance, she kicked him down. As he struggled to get up, she started casting a spell. He got up and took his stance, but the spell had already been cast. “Holy Lance!” she yelled. Once again, Ridus saw 5 glowing pillars of light. This time, their target was him. As they came towards him, he managed to dodge most of them, but one pillar grazed him through his left shoulder. He winced in pain grabbing his shoulder and fell to his knees.

“Damn weakling.” she said, walking towards him. She held one hand in the air, with her wrist blade shining in the moon’s light. “Now take your punishment for being ungrateful for the time I saved you and die!” she yelled out, swinging her hand down. All of a sudden, it was stopped by Ridus’ sword.

“Don’t count me out so fast.” said Ridus warily. He slowly stood up to face Scarlette. As soon as she opened her mouth to say something, an arrow was coming towards them. They both jumped back let the arrow go by them. They looked to their side to see 3 knights and the woman they had seen before in the castle. She had a bow out and a bunch of arrows in her quiver behind her.

“Go! Take out the girl and that soldier! His ether is the same as the Aryans! Make sure none of them live!” the woman yelled. The three soldiers rushed towards both of them.

“The Aryans?!? What the hell are they talking about?” thought Ridus to himself. “Wait, why are you attacking me? I’m a Knight of Orealon too.” yelled out Ridus to the soldiers.

“Because you are a threat to Lavalir’s society. We cannot allow your existence.” yelled the woman. The soldiers continued running towards him.

“Damn it. I can’t fight against my own kind.” he thought to himself once again. The soldiers began attacking Ridus, but all he did was block. He didn’t want to hurt his own people, people that were the same as him; Knights of Orealon. He held his ground until his left are suddenly fell numb. He jumped back and held his stance with only his right hand. “Crap. It’s from Scarlette’s attack earlier. My left arm has lost too much blood.” he said to himself. His vision became blurry and he began to stumble.

The soldiers took advantage of this and ran towards him. Ridus had no time to recover, but suddenly, pillars of light shone once again and aimed towards the soldiers. The lights ran through the soldiers, but in non-fatal places. Ridus took his sword and slashed both the soldiers while they were incapacitated. It was either his death or theirs. He fell to the ground on his knees and stuck his sword in the ground. He couldn’t believe he had just killed his own kind.

The woman, still in the same position she was when she came, gave a loud sigh. “I guess I have no choice.” she said. She took an arrow from her quiver and quickly drew it and released in. Scarlette almost had not time to dodge it. As it hit the tree behind them, it went through that tree and dug itself deep into the next. “If you two are wise, you will surrender now. The first arrow was a warning shot, but it won’t happen a second time.” she said seriously. Another arrow was already strung.

“Those arrows are filled with ether. They aren’t regular arrows. In this state, I won’t be able to beat her,” Thought Scarlette to herself. “And I can’t just leave this guy here by himself. Damn, he always needs help.” She drew her blades back in their cases. “Alright.” she said. She slowly stepped beside Ridus. “We…WON’T surrender.” she quickly yelled. She threw a small metal ball on the ground in front of Ridus and herself. A blinding light shot from the ball. The woman quickly tried to shot the arrow through the light, but when it dissipated, the two were gone.

“Damn it. I let them get away,” she yelled to herself. “That damned girl…” she said as she turned around, walking back to the kingdom. “I’ll have to make sure I see to both their death myself, especially her.”


A skit will be posted once chapter four is up. For some reason I just can't write skits with 2 people.
