I realize that this thread is probably futile to begin with, but I'd like to suggest the abolishment of "no double posting" as both a discouraged activity and tales forum rule.

I think, however, that there sometimes is good reason to post twice in a row beyond realizing that you forgot something. some posts function better as a single, solitary statement; i.e., they have an "effect" that gets lost or reduced if you add more content to the post. having two or more posts in a row also engenders a certain "effect" which can be utilized favorably by the forum poster. when simply giving information, and things to that mundane effect, it probably is better to just amend your initial post. but in other situations, double posting might help a person create more humor, or otherwise advance some favorable effect. I know this takes up space, but oh noes, you have to move your mouse about a centimeter more to get past the double post. I can't give any practical examples that reside on this board, because double posting isn't allowed, but I'm sure some of you might understand what I'm saying.

I know this could be abused, and discretion should be used to weed out pointless spam that spans 3-4+ posts. it would probably take a little bit more effort to regulate the boards if this change happened.

I also know the chance of this being taken really seriously is slim, but if you're reading this sentence right now, thanks for not tl;dring (and if you post tl;dr anyway, you're oh so clever).

Make whatever edit you want to your post, copy it all, then delete that post and re-post it. It's simple.

We've already said that people are allowed to double post if they're adding something relevant (i.e. new news on a video game) to a topic that needs to be bumped. I don't really understand why else anyone would need to double post. <_<;

That's considered to be spamming.

And why don't you use capitalize your sentences? I'm assuming your Shift key works because you have correctly used your 'I's, but it makes reading what you wrote more of a chore.

Especially when you can just copy your old post, delete it, paste the contents of your old post to a new reply + new stuff.

Then all the posts with no useful content that are solely intended to make people laugh are spam? Ok.

That's funny, on most other boards I've posted on, the majority of the members have neglected capitalization entirely, and they can read it just fine. Sure, however, I'll utilize my Shift key correctly.

Well, glad to see that the main content of my post was ignored.

Apparently not. But the fact that the author of this topic can't even fabricate some instance in which it would be appropriate, I don't think it would happen often at all.

The fact is that someone sees your post and thinks "well, what they though was rather sexy" and scrolls down, obviously thinking your opinion was over, to find another post with an addition/remix of your opinion. The reaction is huge. an explosion takes part in their brain:

OVER?

OOOH NO IT'S NOT!

DOUBLE POST!!! Am I not being revlutionary. Are you not feeling the added EFFECT which can't be expressed by a singular post,

For humorous impact is futile, if you ask me, and I can't think of any realistic example of its use that can't be reflected in a single post, if only using an ASCII horizontal rule or a bit of blank space (which has been overused before ... anyway).

The current de facto rules allow for double-posting in limited situations such as for bumping a topic with relevant information or other sufficient justification (I'd assume bumping a help topic that hasn't gotten a sufficient response would be acceptable as well), even when it'd be possible to simply copy an old post, delete it and repost it in a new post (with some added notice of its bumping maybe).

I believe this leniency to double-posting is sufficient.
