Fun matches as usual, even random matches with characters one is inexperienced with can lead to "WTF I did that?" moments.

Actually I think my FC in the OP is back when I had the WiFi stick, so it isn't valid anymore. Sorry, but my parents are watching TV right now so I can't anyways :<

Unless you've made your Wii to go to the Homebrew Channel automatically, you're kind of **** when you don't have a Wiimote.

Yeah, the only real way is if you use BootMii which gives you boot up menu where you can use any controller to go to Homebrew Channel etc.

If someone really wants, I guess I could give online Brawl another shot but I'm not really that great outside of Melee and I can't deal with the lag at all well.

I could say the same thing. I was a much better player during the Melee years and before I got a better connection for Brawl, the wifi lag can really mess up your skill on both online and offline.
