Which is exactly why I say gaming is in the toilet. Kids today have no idea that the truly best games ever were made on the NES/SNES/Genesis. Yes, don't get me wrong, I have fond memories of Nintendo 64 games, Mario 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, but the best game ever made sure as hell is NOT Final Fantasy 7. Nor is it the best RPG ever made. I've yet to finish FF 4,5,6, on GBA, but I sure am glad I own them, and didn't bother getting 12 after I hated 10, and 11 bored the hell out of me.
And for all the complaints regarding ToD, I wish we'd get the remake that would end the complaints, or so it looks like it would.
And I'm not gonna say I know the best games ever made, because I'm sure I've skipped some great games throughout the years, and missed some I wish I got to play, Star Ocean 2, Chrono Trigger, and so forth. But the Golden age of gaming is long since history and that is a fact. NES/SNES/Genesis had the best things going for games, long before Sony and Squaresoft ruined everything with Final Fantasy 7. I would much rather take Mario RPG on the Virtual Console, when Square soft was good, than another damned FF. |
well, thats only semi-true. we still see games that have the right idea over here, knowing its not all about grahpics, its about gameplay. |

Well, from what I've heard, the main FF series is going to end after FF13. Which I'm kinda hoping is true, cause it'll make room for other RPG's to get their share of the spotlight. FF's always been hogging the spotlight.
And the 90's were like, the golden ages of gaming. With the first 6 FF games, The first 2 Star Oceans, the first 2 Tales games.....Ahh, those were the days. FF7 ruined the series with it's massive popularity and constant milking sequels/prequels from it. I'm surprised SE hasn't been whoring remakes of FF7.
I personally like 8-12 better than 7. 9 and 12 are my favourite FF games.

Really!? I'd love for FF to end with 13! And not only did FF7 ruin the series, it ruined GAMING in general. Square soft was great in 1996 with Super Mario RPG, and than they brutally manipulate gaming to become the horror fest it is today.
And it's good to see someone else likes FF8, I like 8 & 9 the most, 10 isn't very good IMO, but I don't hate it like I do 7, so overrated.
And I never played Star Ocean 2 sadly, I bet I missed out. _________________

Yeah, you did. SO2 is the best in the series. SO3 had a lame plot twist that they shoved in there just to make the game longer. >_>
Yes, I'd like the FF series to end. Atleast the main series. I don't mind the occasional spinoff game, but the series needs to stop hogging the spotlight.
SE spoiled people with the later FF games. It's why people don't appreciate the 2D and 2.5D RPG's that are coming out these days.

Damn, well, 3 was a fluke for me to like it, since I hadn't like anything from SE for a while. And yes, I feel that way exactly, because ever since FF7 RPGs have been ruined horribly by SE and FF.
Hell, I want Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger to come to Wii's Virtual Console so I can have Mario again, and play CT. _________________

I personally prefer the older SO games... and it seems that all the older games in general are freakishly harder than the games of today that guide you step by step. Like ToP (SNES) it took me forever to get through some areas with the extremely limited info given. And I'm fervently against using guides, so I get headaches from stressing. _________________

Okay guys, I updated Cyllya's first post the other day since a lot of it was severely outdated and such. Lunar helped me with a few of the KoR and ToV things. If there is anything that needs to be changed/added/fixed, please post it here so I can fix it. ^^ Thanks. =P _________________

You could change ToE online from Has a monthly fee to Had a monthly fee, but that doesn't really matter. _________________

The "new" DS game can also be named Tales of the Nexus. And I think it was "the Genesis". You might also want to add "RadiMyth" as an abreviation for Radiant Mythology, I see it quite often.
Why has Symphonia 2 entries while Rebirth only has one? =O _________________

well i olny read the first and last page and must say i agree with the gaming thing losts of companies like square just blew it with those things.... dont get me wrong i love FF7 and i like some of the sequels, but i would've prefered them out of the ecuation anyways... and the thing with tales its that they focus on cel shed anime kind of thing and like some of u said kids dont see that, first of all those are stunishing graphics (they may not be so detailed in 3d modeling like FF series, but is because tales is animeshious while FF is about 3D char more realistics); and no just that the story the sound track the gameplay is so perfect as well. so i still dont get why tales games arent still very much stable in the USA... there are so many tales titles that i only saw the scratch of it cuz its not translated and i wont enjoy like that...
now i dont get why no translation to tempest or innocense... those two for being in the DS have nice graphics (that kids would like, i guess)... so whats the deal?
well, i got inspired hehe... the thing is that this not only happens with tales but also with lots of other games...now i dont have one in my head but i all the time hear about a super nice game only to see thats japan-only.
now about the updatting thing... i didnt find the nakiri dungeon 3 and phantasia for the PSP on the list..... see ya! |

i feel ur pain man. The gamers who prefer graphics over gameplay are usually people who didnt own snes, nes, psone, sega. Those people usually started playing at dreamcast(although dreamcast had great games)
my friend said he cant play a game unless it has good graphics. We dont play games together anymore cuz all he plays is lame stuff now like devil may cry and god of war. Who pays almost 70 bucks for a 5 hr game?????!?!?!?!?! |

Well, I'm going to go against what others are saying -- I've been playing video games since the early 80's, probably before a lot of you were born, and I disagree that the SNES era was the best ever. Playing older Tales like Phantasia and Eternia feels dated, not because of graphics, but because there's so much you expect from a Tales game that is not present. There are so few extras, the system is simplistic, there aren't many subquests, etc.
I have fond memories of fun games from every era of gaming, from 80's arcade games and the Atari 2600 right up to PS3/XBox360/Wii. _________________

I love Final Fantasy 7. As far as storyline is concerned, it's one of the best I've ever seen in a video game, second to Chrono Trigger. (And others I'm certain I'm forgetting...)
I don't, however, like the rest of the Compilation. As far as I'm concerned, all that exists of FF7 is the original game.
Don't get me wrong, I'm an old-schooler. My very first console was a Sega Genesis, and I loved it. The people that only look at graphics and voice acting (they do exist, unfortunately) need to invest in the roots of a nice, old franchise. Tales, FF, Sonic, Mario... Pick one and sit 'em down in front of one of the earlier games. See if they don't admit it's addictive.
EDIT: I should add that every era of gaming has its own appeal, and anyone who secludes themselves in any one era and criticizes the others without experiencing them needs to broaden their horizons a little. _________________ Avatar courtesy of ladynadiad. Thank you so much! ^_^

Tales of Hearts?

This one slipped by me, I thought Vesperia was the last announced Tales set to be released, and Dawn Of The New World on Wii. _________________

I also started with a sega genesis, but the problem with me is that I didn't move on from that until the GBA became popular, so I missed a whole era of games pretty much. |
