| I read other threads like this where you just click on properties and copy the URL. I did that and it still doesn't work!!! I'm getting really frustrated. It keeps saying the URL isn't valid! What the heck!? |

What URL are you using?
If it begins with "C:\", then that's not a URL, that a directory path on your local system. You can't link something on your own computer unless it runs an internet server (which is a very big security risk even if you know what you're doing); you have to host it on a system that does.
For free image hosts, try http://www.imageshack.us or http://www.photobucket.com
If that's not the case, post back here with the URL. Please provide the exact string that is causing an error. _________________

That depends on whether you're using the correct address to the image.
What URL are you using? _________________

Linking from Google may also result in "hotlinking" which many sites have measures against so I'd advise not to do so. _________________ *Sig by WarriorAngel01*

So technically, that's not "may result", that's "will result"; but since bandwidth can be expensive, most sites disallow hotlinking and, indeed, use technical measures to try and block the majority of it.
(...if any of that confuses you, just go with what Shadowfox said. I'm just bringing up a technicality.)
I'd also be careful that you have permission to use the avatar (i.e. either the creator/owner states that their avatars are free to use, or you ask them directly), even if it's not fanart. That's more of a measure of manners and respect for others' work, than it is copyright issues. _________________

| I was having the same problem-- it's possible that it won't recognize URLs that don't have image extensions. Right click on the image, view properties, and find out if it's a .jpg, a .png, or a .gif, then add that onto the end of the URL if there isn't a .anything there already. |

Besides Photobucket and Imageshack, know any others? I really need to get an avatar of Sesshomaru from InuYasha. (That's what "Sess" means) _________________ Favorite Line: Kratos- Feel the pain... of those inferior beings... as you burn in hell!

You have to use the URL of the image, so the one when you do the right click and "Open Image in new window/tab". That is the URL you need, if that is teh problem _________________ All my information about the game of Tales of Symphonia comes from my lovely "PS2 Version Tales of Symphonia Official Complete Guide"
