Actually, it's usually seen as problematic because formerly banned members use proxies to return without detection.

Yes, it's best if you avoid the proxy sites. If a member creates an alt and posts, they post from proxy sites to avoid getting caught. Once we find out, we ban that IP address... meaning anybody using that IP address can't post.

just because some people do that, doesn't mean it's always an alt though. It's kind of a dumb rule if you ask me.

It's a sort of "better safe than sorry" type of deal. We're also more than likely not the only forum that has such a rule in place.

"better safe than sorry" sounds pretty messed up though. I mean let's say someone makes a name that sounds as if he/she is an alt... does that mean he/she should be banned?

Of course not, on the off chance that does occur the alt will usually some sort of tell where they end up giving themselves away (ironically at times it's other users that say "hi *insert ban name here*).

I don't think there is such a rule. I think whoever banned him just assumed based on the weird content of the post and the proxy.
