For February, how about "Write the most awkward Valentine's day (or equivalent thereof) experience you can think of involving your main cast"?
Oooh, or maybe "Chronicle the -plans- each of your characters would make for Valentine's day (the more elaborate, the better, of course), and the degree to which they do/don't fall apart"?
Then again, maybe I'm stuck in OC Meme mode...
Oh-oh-oh! Wait! I've got it!
The vast majority of us probably have at least one character who wouldn't get all enthusiastic about Valentine's day, right? So what if our challenge is "A Valentine's Day... Carol"? Complete with ghosts. Or other members of the cast pretending to be ghosts. Who could go on to complain about how they'd rather be off with X-significant other but they've been drafted into showing this person The True Meaning of Valentine's Day™. (Yes I am feeling especially crazy. Nonetheless, I think this is an epic idea)
Lately I'm just overwhelmed with sheer volume of projects to work on... It's my own damn fault for starting so many things, but the problem with ideas that won't leave you alone is the not-leaving-you-alone part, and then the bit where I work on them very slowly. So it's just like, an ever-growing mental pile that will eventually drive me absolutely insane from trying to remember 4 or more intricate plots at once. Well, maybe not intricate... some of my gag stuff gets pretty involved, and of course, all my ideas have to be arranged into a linear order that makes sense with character development and whatnot, but intricate might be going a bit far. _________________

That does sound like fun.
I've actually... sort of had an idea for an activity myself. But it could be used whenever, if anyone wants to use it at all...
Everybody who wants to participate comes up with a prompt idea. (It would have to be pretty generic to allow it to cater to any world/set of characters, of course.) Then, each of those ideas is randomly assigned to someone else to actually write. At the end, you guess both who wrote the piece, and who came up with the idea.
Thoughts? |

Wow, I might write what popped into my mind even if we don't use that as the theme.

Actually, as specific as that sounds, I found myself filling in the blanks with my characters easily. (However, it will be ridden with spoilers for the few who mind, so I wouldn't post it...)

Sounds like fun to me.
I wouldn't know how to organize it, though, as I can't host anything. That'd be lady or Lao's department. Or maybe someone could get it to work through LJ...? _________________

I will definitely take the February challenge, whatever it is.
It should involve lots of Ekky whining as he is assaulted with declarations of love. _________________

I like both Duo's and Aelph's ideas. Aelph's should be used in March though, just because I really want to do something 'romantic' (yeah, right...) for Feb., just because the time is right. (Or parody like.)
...I'm tempted to suggest something about Friday the 13th, too. :'D _________________

Well that certainly explains the new Jason movie. Maybe we'll find out why he was frozen in Ice in this one!
EDIT: Taking longer then I thought to finish off this Activity. It'll be about an hour. But yay timezones!

All right.
It's time.
Time to stop procrastinating.
Tomorrow, I buy a notebook (I don't have any here except the ones I've already used), and I start writing the real story.
And since it will likely be very different from the finished piece, I think I will put it up on FP -- to get the feedback. I need continuity freaks and, hopefully, positive outlooks about the possiblity of the story itself.
See... I've written probably 200 pages of notes so far. I've written all these damn short stories. I've written character exercises and done those memes and a thousand other things, and it's all procrastination. Because I'm scared of the failure of actually attempting to write a complete, original, long story and not being able to finish it. It doesn't matter that I've done it before. This time, it's for real, as it were, since I'm hoping to -- eventually -- at least try to get it published.
So it's scary. And it's the easiest thing in the world to tell myself I have to keep planning... planning... planning.
But research can be done as I write. I can look up and read about what I need to know. I can correct. I can edit. I can slice and dice and excise and extract. And the first draft SHOULD BE ****TY.
Therefore -- I won't let myself wait any longer.
And I don't know why I felt the need to announce that, except that maybe it will force me to do it out of shame at being a failure yet again.
Anyway... that's tomorrow. No outlines. As a certain musical I know some others here enjoy says: From here on in, I shoot without a script.
Stephen King didn't know how It was going to turn out. And I have no idea if the Turtle can help me now, but stranger things have happened.
(And now, clearly, I need to go to bed... ) |

Yay Aelph! Good for you! *waves one of those silly little flags used at football games and whatnot* I'd give some speech about not being afraid of failure and how writing is possibly the one art form where mistakes are easily fixed, but you seem to know all of that already. So I'll just say I look forward to reading what you produce... if I ever stop being such a lazy SOB and read some other people's work. Now might be a bad time to make a resolution to do such, though, what with the Lattimore translation of The Iliad (which is -insane-, by the way... you can tell he tried to preserve what the Greek was doing but it was at the expense of the English in many cases. Also Achilleus is an absolute -pansy- and really childish for a so-called "manly man"... I'd say that's the point, but it's probably due to differing cultural values) and Crime and Punishment for school, but I shall at least try to get Xandy that months-overdue feedback.
And now a comment of much lesser magnitude--since it's the 3rd, I think we'd best officially declare an activity for February, ne? People seemed to mostly like my suggestion, so shall we go we that, all official-like? Not to steal anyone's thunder, I just wasn't sure if we'd officially declared the month's activity yet, and what with February being the shortest month... _________________

Well, Aelph, I'll support you all the way. I know you can do it! If Mark can do it, you can too. -shot-

Don't bother. I don't expect any replies, and EoD is on a break until I get better. In other words, don't bother. The end result is going to be EoD goes into the hiding forever or by the time I pick it up again, that chapter will be scrapped. _________________

*clap clap* Go Aelph! :D Can't wait (as goes without saying :') ). I'm always ready to give a good round of concrit, when you need it. 8)
Because lady is pretty much leaving the forums, she suggested I make a new thread for the WG. If that's okay with y'all.
I've got one entry for "resolutions" and two for "dreams"--doesn't make guessing a challenge at all, but should I host them anyway, just to put them up to be read...?
As for the February challenges, I'm all for approving Duo's Carol idea, if of course, no one objects to new management. o.o; _________________

Yeah, long overdue post from me. Honest truth is, when the forum went down for so long, me in my usual pattern found other things to do with myself and assumed they wouldn't come back.
Anyway, main reason why I stopped by to post is that I discussed things with Squidy over IM and sh's going to take over here because honestly it seems that I've way overextended myself and I really don't have the time to put into keeping things here organized. Plus if the forum decides to crap out again, well I hate Reservia as some know, so that needs to be taken into consideration also.
But Squidy has my full approval to take over and make a new thread and do really whatever it takes to make this awesome. I'll probably still be around, but not often, because I admit, I've got a ton of writing to do myself along with lots of other projects and RL stuff like a full time job that I hate. _________________

Hope things get better for you soon, lady. I know the job situation has been a problem for awhile, so... fingers crossed that something better comes along.
Congrats on taking over, squidy.
Thanks for the encouragement, guys. <3 I really appreciate it. I'm debating whether to put the story up here or on FP. I actually trust people here a little more to offer me real feedback, and I assume I could ask a mod to delete the whole thread if necessary (or at least lock it) if I did get some interest from a publisher. Thoughts? (Whatever I do, I will need and want harsh criticism. Tell me what works, because that's helpful too, but definitely definitely definitely tell me what doesn't. Think of any time you've been pissed off at me and let it flow through criticism. Grammatical corrections are always nice, but what I really want are style suggestions -- I can correct the grammar myself.)
And I should apologize, as Duo did, for being so awful about concrit. I get so behind, and it takes me so long to do (which is my own fault, but I don't want to offer nothing but "I LIKED IT GOOD JOB"...), but neither of those is a good excuse for not just doing it. So I'm very sorry. I'll (continue) try(ing) to do better. |

Go right on ahead and post. No, there's no reason I'm suggesting it because in no way at all did I send something in. Nope, nothing at all. Bwhahahahahaha.
As for the new topic thing, though I am loathe to say so, make a new one. If ladynadid is cutting time down then she won't be able to update the OP with new info as fast as you. _________________
