Today marks a sad day for me. They're taking back our laptops so I can't do any posting from school anymore, only from home. To make up for this, I'm giving you this gift, the last four poems to come out of my laptop.

In the Heat of Battle

A clashing of shimmering blades
A burst of flame in all shades
A soothing turquoise healing light
A summoned spirit for this fight

Ogres, demons, and a troll
Just a few on the attendance roll
Lloyd’s sword cleaves the dragon in two.
But the battle soon begins anew

Ancient relics, floating spheres
Dance through the air without peers
Lightning flashes, sparks fly
Genis counters in the blink of an eye

Magic, a special Elven skill
Harnessed with inner will
Genis chants and raises his kendama,
His blizzard sends them crying to mama

Battered and bruised, our heroes reel in pain
Always standing ready, Professor Raine.
With a refreshing aqua aura she heals
Injuries that would make her friends kneel.

Tags of paper, spirits to call.
Miss Sheena can use them all.
A holy seal locks their spells
Efreet breaks through their shells.

The final drake falls to the floor
The monsters will attack no more
Though the battle took all their powers,
Lloyd still shouts, “Victory is ours!”

Cooking laments

I am not a gourmet cooking dude.
You may say my dishes are crude.
After each battle my grub always fails
Whoever eats it always ails.

I’ve talked to the butcher, the bread baker,
The fisherman, the chef, the noodle maker,
I’ve even consulted the village shaman
But still I can’t make a bowl of Ramen.

Maybe I should give this job to someone.
At least they could get the food done.
Oh, no! I’ve bungled these provisions!
Genis, you go make the cooking decisions.

My dreams, my destiny

The carefree summer days long gone
The days when we danced under the sun
The festivals with good friends from the town
Lloyd’s dog Noishe could always reverse a frown.

I sigh to think that such days have passed.
All of this happened far too fast.
The prophecy of the one to be chosen
A blessing and a burden.

My wings may grow bright and strong,
But deep within us we all long.
For the times when our perceptions,
Did not include the world’s deceptions.

Here I am, so far from our home
In new lands that I have barely known
What lies ahead of us I cannot see,
These are my dreams, my destiny.

Summit

At last, the top of the peak
A journey that took us a week.
Nature’s breath blows through our hair
I hear Genis say, “We’re almost there.”

“Look at that city,” Colette remarks.
Below a quiet village with parks
Our trek has made us all weary
We could all use a respite dearly

But for now I relish in the scenery
Sparrows soaring above the greenery.
Since such peace is rare in our quest
These times I enjoy the best

I listen to Kratos’ experienced words,
His eyes sense turbulence among the birds.
They flee ahead of some darkness
Into the clouds filled with calmness.

Ah! A gentle break denied again
My friends ask, “A rest, when?”
Battle after battle, run after run
We can’t have dozes, not even one.

Writer's comments

This is not a poem, just my own thoughts.

1. I thought that describing a battle scene would be interesting in poetry form. It's really more like 4 battles strung together.
2. A humorous poem about a character's inability to cook. I left the speaker anonymous since I'm not certain who the worst cook in the party is.
3. A serious poem from Colette's perspective. I think all adventurers get this feeling once in a while when they long for times when they didn't have to worry about the world's troubles, yet they continue their journey.
4. Inspired by a certain part of the opening cutscene (the one where they are at the top of the mountain overlooking a town), this mainly talks about our heroes perseverence. They keep going even though they haven't had a relaxing break in a while.

Those poems are AWESOME!!! I seriously think that "In the Heat of Battle" is the best one I've read. VERY nice job. Wink

And who knows,
starting a new journey may not be so hard,
or maybe it has already begun.
There are many worlds,
but they share the same sky–
one sky, one destiny.

Yay! XD I love your work. Especially where you had character-specific paragraphs again. And the cooking one is funny. Smile
