Arietta was one of the more tragic victims of Van's war against the Score, pretty much loosing everything to coincidence and being swept up into a huge mess. Largo was a broken man who found solice in helping someone with the same ambition. Those two are my favorites, where as Dist is a nerd whose most issues would probibly be solved if he were more social and made more friends. Sync just annoys me, complaining about something that nobody can really control when he reveals himself. I found it interesting that you have to go out of your way to learn more about Legreeta, and even then she was mostly a mystery. We know she was enraged about her brother's death, and that eventuly led to her being in love with Van, and that Tear is her student, thus she wanted to set her down the right path, and that she is one of the few (possibly only) people who has heard Van's evil laugh. We get great insight into Asch's abilities, history, and motivations, so he is definatly a good character.

In short, 1.Arietta/Largo 2. Asch 3.Legreeta 4. Dist 5. Sync

Sync>Legretta>Asch>Dist>Arietta>Largo

I guess that is my answer.

Definitely Asch.
I haven't got the game, but I watched the anime.
Even though with most game storylines I read up what happens and ruin the ending, but with Tales of the Abyss I didn't, yet I knew somehow namco would be cruel and kill Asch off. And when it happened I couldn't accept it. But then when Lukes restoring Lorelei and he catches Asch and his finger moved- I was so happy.

Although I like Legretta's personality and her guns, but Asch was my favourite. Cool

Asch has to die. And stay dead. Otherwise, the game has no point.

Airk, you hate Asch so much that you think the game's worthless if he doesn't die?

It has nothing to do with whether I like him or not, and everything to do with the fact that theme of the game is about evolving, changing, finding your own way and being your own person, and Asch is the example of what would have happened to "Luke" if he had done none of those things.

Symbolically, it's important that he die. Even more importantly, when he dies, he needs to stay gone.

I also prefer Asch 10x more if he dies (and stays dead).

'Else, he becomes worse than rappig dung.

...Yeeeeaaaahh it doesn't always work that way, sweetie. You even said yourself:

(And I personally wouldn't call his life "sad" if he himself was a major cause for why it turned out that way...)

Dist>Arietta>Largo>Legretta>Asch>Sync

I love Dist because he's so comical and i like his goal of trying to get back one of the few ppl he cares for. And i agree with Yume. Largo is a very awesome and honorable character. I don't see how anyone could hate him especially after his backstory and motives for joining Van is revealed.

Probably Dist=Legretta>Largo>Asch>>>>>>>>>>>Arietta=Sync

Dist is just amusing. His over-the-topness and..er, ambiguity was just funny. Legretta was a badass, plain and simple. I don't get why people hate Largo. He definitely the most sympathetic of the God Generals. He's like a freakin' samurai(honorable, thinks mercy is a worse fate than death, etc, etc). And he's voiced by Jamieson Price. I was fairly neutral to Asch, he was an okay character, but he loses points for being an idiot. Sync is, in simple terms, a complete and utter ass. He reminds of those people who ***** and moan about their lives, say that they're gonna kill themselves, but don't do anything and continue their *****ing and moaning. He also pulls the biggest dick move in the game: impersonating Ion's voice, even if you hate Anise, you have to admit, that was a TOTAL. DICK. MOVE. Here's Arietta's character summed up. "WAAAAAH! I HATE YOU! WAAAAAAAAH! *dies*" THAT'S IT! Her entire characterization.

The only one I liked was Largo because his backstory was the only one I could sympathize with. Dist was annoying, Legretta was a *****, Arietta was an idiot and Sync wouldn't die and even though I hated Ion, he was much better than Sync.
