It depends on the cutscene too. The anime cuts are impossible, they are fixed format and not related to the game other than storyline timing.
The game render cuts it might be possible, simply by entering the cutscene with those characters.

Seeing this thread reminded me... I have $73 in pocket, and EBgames has the GC action replay on hand. I might actually get it.

Yes, but like I said. If you were to somehow replace Zelos with Kratos...
At the point where Zelos would hug Lloyd, the game would either crash or simply ignore the action. After all, Kratos' character wouldn't know how to do a hug. Only Zelos was programmed to do a hug.
Or if you were to replace Presea with Genis... During the scene in Ozette where Colette gets kidnapped... Genis doesn't own an axe, and certainly doesn't know how to swing it. How could he make Raine back off, then?
...
Perhaps with an attack of his Kendama. Depends if the axe-swing from Presea was copied from her attack move during battles, or designed seperately...
But anyway, you catch my drift.

Replacing characters would require a higher level of hacking that none of us are capable of. I've seen someone hack it to the extent of changing an event battle (which has a programmed cutscene right before it starts). They changed Lloyd to Zelos, and changed the battle arena. I'm not sure if they could do this, though.

But I'm pretty sure that if they replaced Zelos' character model with Kratos', it would run just the same. The only thing would be everything reacting as if it were Zelos. (Text bubble, everyone saying "Zelos") Because as far as I know, that specific movement he did in that cutscene wasn't pre-programmed. I went through the motions, and I didn't see it. Most likely, they programmed that bones and such to move that way instead of making it a default motion.

A good example would be Colette and Lloyd when she's writing in his hand. They don't have those motions as default, as they don't use them often enough. They set it so those bones move a certain way in those cutscenes. (Colette's hand's bones would move in a certain way on loop until the player goes to the next text bubble.)

So if you replaced Zelos with Kratos the correct way, most likely result would just be a few body parts looking odd, as the bone movement was meant for Zelos, whose character model is different. (You can see how this works in the weapon test. Sometimes if you leave the default metal swords in one character's hands and switch characters, the swords will be in a weird place.)

This is merely speculation, though. I don't have the proper equipment or knowledge to hack the game, so I don't know for sure. ... ;_; I need hacker friends.

You're talking to someone who is willing to give this a shot. While i'm not a real hacker (loyal techsupport actually) I know a thing or two about this, and also (raine style ruin mode) I SIMPLY MUST KNOW HOW THIS WORKS!
I'll be getting the tools I need today on my way home from classes.

Hahah... that's how I was thinking when I finally got the exit modifier code. When I was going through a couple of them, my parents were worried I was insane from all the laughing and "WONDERFUL!!" shouts...

Ahem. What we currently have access to right now does not have any ability to replace cutscene NPCs. (Everything in cutscenes are NPCs) Just lets us look through all the NPCs (and their different textures and programmed movements) and manipulate their bones. This is why making some of the poses is hard, as we can not place an NPC where we wish; we can only work with what NPCs the level gives us.

Well that was a bit of fun. Since I don't have the test field code yet, I was playing around with the preloaded codes.

Well, in the course of my experimenting, I managed to get Genis to solo Seles in mania mode in the colisseum.

It was awesome too, I just let her hit him untill he went overlimit, Indignation judgement was a one-hit kill. If I do that again I'll video clip it.

Hopefully I'll be able to find the test field code soon.

I'd like to see that too! XD Though I like Seles, I'd love to see her one-hitted. One-hit deaths are always a hoot. Just remember though that the testfield_02 code (The center of this thread. It's part of the exit modifer.) is for US only currently.

I'm using the US GC and ToS.

As for Indignation Judgement against seles, look at the preloaded codes and activate all of them for genis. Then go into the colisseum and run it untill you get to the seles battle.

keep trying to cast indignation, she will keep interrupting it, but due to the action replay Genis will only take -1 damage, and at 9999HP won't die anytime soon. Eventually she will piss him off enough that he will go over limit, at that point cast indignation, indignation judgement will trigger, and she will be in for over 250000 damage when it hits.

Hello, everybody. At one point in this thread I saw someone talk about a list of the NPCs in the testfield with their corresponding number. I'm frustrated at the game constantly locking up on me if I pick a certain number and having to restart everything, so could someone please direct me to that list? Thank you, all help is appreciated.

That list was by me ^^; But some are incorrect... And I'm working on going into more detail since I was messing with them some more for a certain picture. As soon as I've got about a day of free time, I'll go through the list and find exactly who and what everyone is, along with the possible skin changes. And, if I may ask, I'd like some help with it after I'm done to make sure my game disc wasn't just being retarded. (It reads a few NPCs differently every few times. It kept locking up on the Rheaird NPC for a while.) Sooo... some testers for the list would be appreciated after I've got it done.

But, until then, I edited the post on the topic where I originally put the list since I updated some of it. (Empty/blank NPCs solved! >_>)

Also, I'd like to say I've got some pictures coming up on my end as well. Hopefully tomorrow. And I must say... though frustrating, the bone system is VERY fun to work with... <3

Assuming I can use the one provided by Kysarin, yes.
The fun part is going to be the possibility of loading a tracer into the GC using freeloader so that I might find out why it locks up on certain codes, but the probability is it locks up because it is told to search for a model that doesn't exist
