Not that the strategy guides are bad or anything; but I'm hoping it gets a decent, thick strategy guide (Maybe signature series, cause theyre cool x)). The normal ones are cool, but they always seem to scream "cheap"... lol
Signature guides have a thing to 'em that makes me want to buy the guide just to have the guide... =o _________________

Better yet I'd rather have Prima publish the guide then Bradygames.
Since Bradygames guides tend to suck (points to the crappy Dragon Quest 8 guide they made.)
Sure Prima guides have major spoilers in them but I find their guides way better then the crappy Bradygames ones. |

What was the company that _Cless_ (I think it was him) said was really good months ago that should have done the ToL guide? _________________

Doublejump Books is fairly good at making strategy guides.
Keep in mind its up to the developers to supply materials and the like for the strategy guides. In addition, some developers prefer more hands-on approaches when it comes to making them. Square Enix is pretty much the main reason why guides like FFIX and DQ8 tended to suck. |

more often then not a lot of Doublejump books guides were for SRPG's (like Disgaea for example.)
Then again Bradygames made the guides for .hack Infection to Quarantine and all 4 sucked as well especially the Mutation/Outbreak book (weapon and armor list was incomplete.) |

I'd have to say Prima then since I dislike Bradygames and Versus just hasn't been producing many guide guides lately I hear (points to WA3 guidebook). _________________

| Yeah, piggyback are good, and they've been around for a while, having made a guide for FF9. |

Is Bradygames really that bad? I loved the guide that they made for ToS and GrandiaIII. ToS's guide was perfectly made. It was very easy to read/follow, formatted neatly, organized correctly, and still visually pleasing. I also liked the author that worked on ToS's book. All of the instructions were typed without ANY spoilers. Only short clear directions (important for people that dislike reading from a strategy guide for *too* long).
Take for example, SO3' guide. I took a look while playing through the game for a while, and I hated the fact that every major turn in the story was spoiled through the strategy guide. As long Bradygames continues to make strategy guides in the same way as they did with ToS, I have no problem. _________________

I didn't really notice much for spoilers in SO3's guide, though I didn't really read all those little paragraphs or PA events they had. I usually just skimmed through what looked important, followed the maps, and read up on the bosses. Overall I found it more useful than a lot of guides. I have glimpsed into the ToS guide, and that one did look pretty solid. Bradygames isn't bad, but I have been disappointed with the ones for RS and ToL, which have tons of errors, (RS being the worst with its maps). _________________

It depends on who writes the guide in the 1st place.
Examples their DQ8 Xenosaga episode 1 and all 4 .hack guides (infection to Mutation sucked really badly.)
However Bradygames' Legendia/Symphonia guide was better that those guide books.
For the .hack guides the walkthrough was ok its everything else that sucked (ie the Mutation and Outbreak .hack guides the entire weapon and armor list being incomplete. The Mutation guide has tons of missing monsters in it.) |

Well, the Kingdom Hearts II guide had lots of info which it covered the entire game. Same with Legendia. And like with Prima Publishing, Brady also tends to cover the whole game. Which they don't leave anything out. _________________

But the whole game for the book also includes monster info and a complete weapon armor etc list (which bradgames .hack Mutation and Outbreak guide is incomplete for such a list.)
Their DQ8 guide sucked so badly the only good info dungeon wise was the maps (and even then their wasn't a sidebar/section for a walkthrough of any dungeons unlike their Dragon Warrior/Quest 7 book.
So IMHO if a guide only has a walkthrough it still sucks if everything else thats in the game ie subquests and the like aren't even in the book in the 1st place.
The Xenosaga 1 book only sucked because instead of saying go left, right, up, down etc they used the terms port, starboard, bow, aft etc.
But if you have no idea what directions those terms ment in the 1st place then the book is useless (which sucks since the entire Xenosaga episode 1 took places mostly on ships.)
In fact the last bradygame guide that I had that didn't suck was the Wild Arms 3 one. |
