in a way, this game kind of reminds me of a MUCH better version of Evolution Worlds... in both, there are two main characters. There's a boy, who and dresses (if i remember correctly) like a younger version of Lloyd, and the girl looks like a more modern version of colette (long blonde hair and all that, but with like a shirt, skirt and platform shoes). Also in both, the girl has some special powers (colette being the chosen one and this other girl (linear) coming from a different planet and like the second half of this destructive power (she was the good half and this other evil guy, different from Mag (the Lloyd of the game) is the bad half. Both of the girls get kidnapped, and both are technically more important to the story in the long run than the guys... the guys are just the "helpful saps" (i read that about Lloyd in one review).

Erm, if you mean story and plot-wise. (Razz It would confuse people if you said ToS was a lot like Evolution Worlds and they thought you meant because of the turn-based battles and random dungeons!)

However, I've never played Evolution Worlds. Do you still recommend it?

No doubt! Anyway, Evolution Worlds is worth your time if you like dungeon crawlers. If you don't, you'll hate this title. I personally wouldn't enjoy it fully because it was merely a compilation of Evolution I and Evolution II from DC with most of Evolution I cut out. I've already played both of those, so I haven't seen any point in buying it. All in all, it's far from the quality of Tales, though it is a nice little game!

A lot of RPGs are like that. Based on your descriptions...

Linear = Colette = Lucia (Lunar 2) = Terra (FF6) = Sheba (Golden Sun) = Elena (Grandia 2)

Mag = Lloyd = Cloud (FF7) = Zidane (FF9) = Ryudo (Grandia 2) = Felix (GS2) = Hiro (Lunar 2)

Evil Antagonist that is the dark side of your main character = Sephiroth = Ganondorf = etc.

Oh, my, no. I definitely don't play RPGs just for the dungeons. Razz Sometimes I find levelling-up for bosses so tedious I stop playing the game for a looooong time. (ie, FFVI, I'm a nut who wants everyone to be the same level Razz)

And thus, ToS seems to have a lot of RPG clichés, with their own twists that make it their own game. Smile

Well, Evolution's definitely not for you, then. I, too, am not a big fan of walking through dungeons endlessly. I found myself sticking around in the towns of Evolution much longer than I bothered to stay in the variety of ruins because I enjoy contact with NPCs more than fending off hordes of monsters.

I havn't heard great things about Evolution Worlds. I guess if you like the Evolutions on Dreamcast you could pick it up....if you can find it.

personally... i wouold not recommend evolution worlds to anyone... i rented it from blockbuster and beat it in like i think 5 days (too short and unadventurous for a first time through with no cheats, faqs, etc.)... due to boredom... i always got nautious watching that game... plus... the dungeons were bad... there were only like 4... some of them i think went up to like 8-10 levels with few enemies per floor... which gave very little exp... and it only had like 6 playable characters... and the game continually talks about these gadgets... like mag has a giant robotic arm attached to his back like a backpack and stuff like that, yet it never really goes into depth about it... that's why in my post i said... "in a way, this game kind of reminds me of a MUCH better version of Evolution Worlds".

I haven't played the GC's Evolution Worlds, but the plot didn't seem that bad when I played I and II on the Dreamcast. Perhaps it's gotten worse. I already heard that most of Evolution I: The World of Sacred Device was cut which disappoints me since I actually liked the first game better. Gre Nade was way better in the first installment as was Pepper Box.

Eh, I didn't like Evolution Wolrds...I rented the GCN version and my brother beat it pretty quickly. The plot was OK, and the character's animations were cool, but...it was just so...confining. There was basically NO freedom in the game, which in an RPG is...dull. It's mostly running through boring, drab-looking, EXTREMELY LONG dungons (that you can't save in very much!), with cenimas cut inbetween. I didn't like it at all...

In a way, Inuyasha also falls into this category.

Inuyasha - Lloyd- male lead who is told to accompany the girl

Sesshomaru/Inuyasha - Kratos - Very stubborn and can be hard to get along with

Kagome - Colette - girl who has some "special" abilities and, in some aspects, is more important or valuable than the male lead

Miroku - Zelos - flirt

Sango/Miroku - Sheena - slayer/assassin who later joins the group that she was fighting/ spiritual fighter who uses spell parchments

Shippo - Genis - Kid with a ton of magic skills

Kirara - Noishe - giant pets who serve as transportation

Great comparison! And the ExSpheres are the Shinkon jewels. Who would Raine be though?
