I'm curious about the development of Tales of Rebirth, so maybe the devs can answer this question: Is the team that did ToS doing the new Tales game (that is to say, is Soul Calibur 2's producer also working with this new project). No doubt its being done by Tales Studio, but I'm curious if the same fellows are also working on this new game.

And now my humble request. I'm curious if the developers at Tales Studio are curious about hearing the comments of the Tales series from its Western fans. And I'm wondering if they're open to a few suggestions/requests/input about Tales of Symphonia and their future projects. If this is the case, I wonder if the devs here can send over some fan input about their new Tales game and perhaps hear what the Western audiences would like to see.

With this in mind, and if it is a yes, I'd like to set a few ground rules before everyone starts suggesting what they want. First off, nothing too extrodinary, and please keep the "bring ToS/ToR/ToP game(s) here!". This isn't a petition, and this isn't some elaborate scheme to get ToR out stateside. If Namco wants to bring it here, they will. If not, it'll be disappointing, but understand this is not the goal of this thread. This is merely to offer some constructive criticism/suggestions/input from the Western audiences about the upcoming Tales game. Nothing more, nothing less.

Second, try to avoid offering comments that drastically change gameplay, (new battle system, items, weapons, and perhaps skills/techs) or the storyline. Tales Studio probably already has a vision and direction they want to go with the game, they can certainly fine tune things that players may have felt could've been better in previous games, if they have the time.

Now with that in mind, and if the devs here can give us any info and whether or not this is possible, I'd like to give a few ideas on what I like to see in the upcoming Tales game.

--New Cooking Recipies: Pot Roast, Chocolate Pudding, Shrimp Scampi
--Dream Matches for the Coliseum events
---Singles: Stahn
---Team Match: Cless, Chester, Arche, Mint.
---Two Man Teams: Presea, Suzu.

And that's my input on what I'd like to see in a future Tales game.

Note, keep in mind that the developer's for the Tales games may not take any of our fan input. They may simply be too busy and may not have the time to put our ideas to work (or our ideas simply won't work for what they want to do). So don't get your hopes up too high.

Be creative! But don't get too demanding. Have fun!

--characters should be more active during cutscenes
--faces should show more emotion
--characters have costumes like those of the characters in Tales of Phantasia

well, that's all for me!!

*coughZelos/Sheenacough*

A romanitic subplot would be interesting. As long as it isn't TOO overdone, IMO.

Guys,

Absolutely, 100% yes!, the dev team in Japan is very interested in what "westerners" want to see in future Tales games. They are already emailing me with questions about it.

Tell us what you want to see as far as storylines, art style, packaging, features, etc etc.

They may not be able to incorporate everything, but your responses will definitely be considered!

Thanks!
Sheena

They want to hear about all of that? Wow! That's certainly encouraging! Very Happy

I suggest keeping the multiplayer feature, realtime combat and keep some old characters, like Lloyd,Kratos,Genis,Rain,Colette,Presea and Zelos.(give all characters a special hidden tech similar to Lloyd's falcon crest)

What would be interesting would be an epilogue ala Lunar 2 Eternal Blue. One thing that frustrated me was being unable to explore the new world at the end of ToS, I think every rpg needs a playable epilogue even if it is just exploring.

Bleh. I wouldn't like to keep the same characters. I feel that using the old crew again would make for a bland story. I mean, how much fun could EX-sphere gathering be as compared to regenerating the world by ascending the tower of salvation? Which sounds more epic? If they decide to stay in the Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Phantasia universe, I'd like it to at least take place in a completely different time period. My main suggestions would be to take a bit more time with the multiplayer camera angles, keep Kosuke Fujishima as the character artist, and (although this isn't terribly important) add a few more anime FMVs if only to appease the masses.

Oh yeah! That reminds me of one thing.

I'd kind of like it if the next game has an anime FMV that features all the characters at the end...something where they can at least say one line or so. If this would be too costly or time consuming, don't bother with it, but I think it'd just be a nice little bonus for getting to the end of the game. (The intro does have all of the characters, of course, but they all go by pretty quickly, except for the Lloyd and Colette scenes).

Yeah. I also hope for a better intro. On tos, they only showed certain characters in like 1 or 2 scenes.(Kratos was only showed twice) I don't know why, but I just like the idea of having the same crew from tos back. yeah, the camera angle during multiplayer should be the main thing worked on.

Gah. Tales of Symphonia seemed like such a perfect game to me it's hard to think of things to improve. It would be amazing to see an even more immersive and interesting plot than what is in Symphonia. The emotional aspect of the Symphonia plot is what made it so great, it could probably have been taken even further. Make the sacrifices that must be taken even greater, the line of morality even more vague, and just build on all the great plot elements of ToS. More replay incentive would also be nice.

The one thing I always thought was missing from the Tales series are hi-res 2D sprites. Those beautiful, screen-filling sprites in other anime-style RPG's like Disgaea, Growlanser or Sakura Taisen. They would be perfect for skits or even normal cutscenes.

I love how TOS has multiple endings and story branches, but it would be really great if the game had more dialogue trees. They make static cutscenes more interactive when players can have an impact on those long conversations.
