If I had anything to add, it would be to 1) Make your character interesting, and 2) Try to create complex character connections with the plot.

My very first Rp was a chat-roomed based, extremely literate, Gundam Wing Rp. Often, it didn't matter how eloquent your submission to the site was - if you said that your character was an anti-social pilot that wanted to defeat the enemy forces on the basis of revenge, your character was decidedly out. To the same token, be careful with the cliches.

The second just makes the GM soooo happy. Wink

eh, everyones a sir in my Book.

LH is right about that. Everyone seems to want a bitter character with some social disorder.

I'll admit that I have had my share of cliche characters. (after all, how many of my characters are demons, dragons, uber-demi-gods, ect.) But a balanced and diverse assortment of characters is neccessary, they have to mesh. It's kinda hard to do that with a bunch of meglomaniacs with egosthe size of road island.

Hee, I try to mix my characters up a bit. I have a lot of loner, quiet characters, but a lot of loud, happy characters, too. XD I guess it just depends on whatever I feel is right for the world or group of people I'll probably be with.

Anyway, great guide. ^^

Shock Okay, so I support using good grammar, and good spelling, but a paragraph per post? Is this in RP format, or general OOC-ness? As for RPing, I haven't been in the mood to make a new char, else I'd probably be RPing here.

RP format. For example, a post that simply says "Hiroki laughed." is just kind of pointless.

Wow, I could use a lot of tips here...most of my posts are boring or too short.

Out of all those, I think the biggest problem is the people who never get hit or take damage in battle. It just gets sooo frustrating.

*raises hand* guilty!

Though I am trying to improve. As for you Kent, you merely need to try to get your head into your character, put more emotion into it.

Cathree, if you're afraid of the length of a paragraph, keep in mind that everyone has different standards of length. Logically, if you take one or two sentences for a description of surroundings, one or two for your character's phyiscal responses, one or two for emotional response, and a final bit for dialogue (seperated into a new paragraph, of course) that more or less meets this suggestion. After a bit of training, you'll actually find it hard to write less than a certain amount.

I have so much emotion into Sataka Kura that when someone yelled at him in a RP one time, I yelled at him OOC. XD

But, anyway, the major thing that bothers me in most Roleplays is God-modding.

A. Alot of blocking and countering and no damage. You can do this a couple of times, but don't count on it.

B. How much damage you really DO take. If some guy hits you with a sword and you block it, it's still going to hurt a bit. If some casts Judgement three inches from your face and you say you block the attack, I think you are a dumbass. You can't just BLOCK a magic attack without taking at least 75% of the real force. In example...

Cam: *casts judgement* (100 damage)
Raven: *tries to block some of the attack/Gets burninated* 75/100 damage.

Poor example, but meh. It works.

C. Also stated, as much as I love to see people getting hit and taking the kick in the groin, PLEASE people! Block or something! God! You have GOT to have lost a gallon of blood or something!

Although I do say the above statement in my head alot, it DOES happen. Some dude takes all the hits, FULL FORCE at a somewhat long period of time, and he either, 1. Laughs manically and takes more or 2. Is a major wimp woman.

Ind33d.

This is excellent, Silver. I'm sure it'll help alot of people. Let me put my vote in for spell check and or the banning forever henceforth of asteriks in RP's.

But that's just a glitch of mine. When you write, just...write as if you were standing there, watching it unfold, describe what you see, with as few, but the most descriptive words you can find. Draw the reader a picture, flesh out your character and help them see who and what they really are. It makes for more enjoyable, less monotone read.

Actually, I used to use asteriks on neopets, mostly because that's apparently the trend there. I still posted pretty much like I do now...just within asteriks. Still, I think my Rping definitely improved when I lost the star-like things.

I like making characters that differ, but in the actual act of Rping, their personalities all sort of blend together. I can't seem to help it. The murderous psycho chick acts incredibly similiar to the praying princess goddess girl.
