Because Tales is a relatively small fandom, videogame journalists, magazines, and websites don't put quite as much effort into keeping their facts straight. (It's very easy to get things mixed up, especially when translating from Japanese.) If they screwed up on Final Fantasy info, they'd have hundreds of fans correcting them. But with Tales, they don't care as much, and misinformation is spread.

I'm making this topic to help my fellow fans keep track of what's real and what isn't. (Hopefully we will never have another era like that time when ToS was first announced ...)

Something to keep in mind is that all Tales games are published by Namco Bandai Games, Inc., meaning Namco Bandai owns them, controls them, and knows more about them than other companies do. If a magazine says a game is coming out but a Namco Bandai representative says it isn't, who do you think is right?

Note: As I write this, this post refers to news as of Febuary 26, 2005, and older. If you see news that is newer than that, check the bottom of this post to see when/if it has been editted.

Note to Other Mods: If some big fat omg!-level news comes out and this topic is in desperate need of correction, feel free to do it yourself if I don't hop to it fast enough.

Tales Games that Are Already Released

All Tales games are listed here along with the regions in which they have been released.

Games Announced for Release in Japan

-Tales of the Abyss - 3DS (2011)
-Tales of Xillia - PS3 (TBA)

There are currently no others. Check this list to make sure a particular game hasn't already been released.

Games Announced for Release in North America

-Tales of Graces f - PS3 (2011)

There are currently no others. Check this list to make sure a particular game hasn't already been released.

Games Announced for Release in Europe/Australia

-[None]

There are currently no others. Check this list to make sure a particular game hasn't already been released.

Trademarked Names

Namco has trademarked the following titles without announcing games (newest trademarks bolded):

-Tales of Harmonia
-Tales of Mirage
-Tales of Justice
-Tales of Honesty
-Tales of Truthia
-Tales of Doom Sign
-Tales of Two Faiths/Faces (Kana says Faces, English says Faiths)
-Tales of Howling
-Tales of the Genesis
-Tales of the Nexus
-Tales of Floweria
-Tales of Gracia
-Tales of Unitia
-Tales of Floria
-Tales of Startear
-Tales of Blessia
-Tales of Faithus
-Tales of Zestia

There is absolutely NOTHING that promises that any of these will ever become games. Companies often trademark names because they think they might use them someday. These may be the names of future Tales games, but they also might not be.

Other Rumors

*Tales of Phantasia content
CERO has Tales of Phantasia rated for all ages, and when the game was translated for the GBA, the ESRB rated the game as a somewhat equivalent 10+. With the exception of alcohol, Tales of Phantasia is generally more mild than the English version of Tales of Symphonia, so please note that any particularly vulgar content made popular by fan translations was added by the translators themselves and does not accurately represent the original script.

*Tales of A is a prequel/sequel to Tales of B?
Very few Tales games take place in the same universe. The only exceptions are as follows:

The Aselian Timeline
Tales of Symphonia | Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World | Tales of Phantasia | Tales Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon | Tales of the World: Summoner's Lineage

The Destiny Timeline
Tales of Destiny | Tales of Destiny 2

No other games take place in the same timeline. Abyss and Vesperia are not Symphonia prequels, and Tempest is not a Rebirth sequel.

*Tales of Phantasia THE ANIMATION has been licensed?
Yes, it was been licensed by Geneon. Visit the official website for additional information.

*Tales of Symphonia THE ANIMATION has been licensed?
There has been no announcement regarding the licensing of the Tales of Symphonia OVA.

I think Tales of Honesty is a FAR worse title.

All those names suck, to be honest

-Tales of Harmonia (Sounds like something people will mistake for the Symphonia sequel)
-Tales of the Abyss (About the only non-stupid sounding name)
-Tales of Mirage(suck)
-Tales of Justice(Lloyd'll hate it. I'll hate it. We'll all hate it!)
-Tales of Honesty (being honest is for chumps)
-Tales of Truthia (see above, but replace being honest with telling the truth)

Tales games have always been on whichever system of the applicable type/generation was most popular for RPGs, which is sometimes a Nintendo system and sometimes not. The only exception to this is that ToS was released for GC about a year before it was released for PS2, which caused a couple hundred thousand Japanese people to go out and buy a GameCube when they wouldn't have otherwise.

I hate when people say that. Sony consoles hold the majority of the Tales games, even when you include the remakes and ports.

At least none of those are as bad a something like Tales of Lovia, if they TMed that, I would just have to laugh XD. Those do suck. Although I think Harmonia and Abyss sound like they could be really good names.

Well we don't KNOW that it's a sequel. So if they decide to make it instead a Tales DDR game, then... we're horribly mistaken.

Wooh been a long time since I posted here. Had a huge issue with me moving and what not, but I'd like to say its good that there are detailed sets of information on the Tales games new people can access.

It always struck me as funny that Namco hasn't released Tales of Phantasia on GBA. I've seen so many people complaining about it being a bad port, except it is graphically better than the SNES version and I know a large group of people who would absolutly die to have such a large game on a handheld. I played Tales of Phantasia on PSX (Imported) and I had played the SNES rom (Despite the rom not a favorite among namco officals) and I used the turbo button (speeds up framerat, not game time) and it still took me a good 50 hours to beat with everything aquired. I would love to have a game that long on a gameboy advance.

As for Tales of Eternia Online, I understand why it won't come out, but I honestly think Namco could do it if they pushed advertisments. Ragnarok online is popular, and Tales of Eternia could easily top it. I am kicking myself for not signing up for the ToEOnline Beta test. >.< Anyone know if the delayed beta test has started, or if I can still sign up?

Lastly, I noticed alot of people state why older Tales games won't come out (Due to being too old, ect.) I find it funny since apparently people never look towards the option of Collections and stuff. One collection I always think Namco could do would be the Tales of Destiny collection. It is possible since the next Gen Playstation won't be out for another year. Heck since Megaman Anniversary Collection has games from different systems, Namco could potentially release a Tales of Phantasia Collections with the GBA games (Minus ND: 3 since its fairly new) on a single disk.

In all do respect (and I am no way bashing Namco, I love their games to death!) I think if Namco tried, they could release all the Tales games to quite some success (Minus the Tales of Breaker and Tales of Tactics). It would take some skillful advertising but they could do it.

I guess being a Public Relations guy for about a year now is getting to me. Might make me change my major too. X3

Keep up the good work Cyllya. Glad to see others keeping people informed on the best RPG series around. =P

Of course, you have to take in account that Namco needs to earn money. So it would be "wiser" to re-release each Tales game one by one if they were to, because they would earn more money. I DO hope they be generous and make a collection though.:\

"Truthia"? "the Abyss"?
My God. If these ever became actual games they'd be the laughing stock of the gaming world.

What's wrong with "Tales of the Abyss"? If the plot involves something abyssal, wouldn't that be a good name for it?

And personally, I don't think Truthia is any worse than Legendia, and they're using that one. *shrug*

Well, Namco US just filed a trademark for Tales of the Abyss with the USPTO. So maybe that one's real.
