Not to insult your preferences or anything, but why do you want French text so badly when you fluently speak English?

Why wouldn't I want a game in my mother tongue?

In that case, if you where hypothetically given the choice between two copies of the game, one completely in French and one in English voices with French subtitles, which would you buy? (Halo 3 was sold with two versions like this)

Write to Namco telling them you want one, try to convince others to do the same. They may do it if they see a demand for it.

Also, I'm really surprised they still haven't made a version with Chinese subtitles. Tons of RPGs these days are getting Chinese localizations for Hong Kong and Taiwan, Tales being one of the only major RPGs I can think of that has yet to have one.

Yes, I actually would, so I could get the story completely without having to buy the game again and save myself like 50 bucks

Plus getting to use your current save file for an Ex New Game.

How about DLC English text? Voices are cool but that doesn't help with menu, unvoiced sidequests, NPC talk etc...

DLC for English voices? No.

English text, maybe.

But it's moot since I'm planning on getting the US release even though I already have a JP copy.

Yeah, I'd like to be able to support my region. Even if there was a DLC patch for English text+voices, I'd probably still pass.

Yes, but that's what the English version is for: people that want English text.

No company would ever release English text DLC for a Japanese game, there is virtually no demand for it in Japan. The only people that would buy it are people who live outside Japan, which would mean it would directly eat into sales of the US/EU versions.

Typically this sort of DLC would be aimed at people in Japan, who can read the Japanese text, but simply want to have English audio. Generally it wouldn't cut into US/EU sales because most people buying the US/EU versions cannot read Japanese text.

That isn't to say that people outside Japan who imported the game can't take advantage of it, which is why I am curious as to how many people that own the Japanese version would rather pay 1500 yen for just voices over paying $60 USD + tax for full English.

Which, as I expected, isn't many.

On another note, I wonder what the general reaction would be if Namco released a Tales of game simultaneously between Japan and US/EU, and had both English and Japanese language options on both versions, HOWEVER, without the ability to separately change audio and text languages. Meaning, the game must either be completely Japanese or completely English. It would definitely be amusing to see the backlash they would get for essentially simply including extra options, but not in the way people expected or wanted.

Well, menus aren't an issue for me. NPC talk I'd miss out on a large amount of but not enough to re buy a game.

Edit:Whoops, misread. Yeah I would def get an English text patch.

Honestly, I don't think Namco thinks enough about those who import Japanese tales games to even consider giving them the option. And I'm sure most Japanese people would rather have the game in their own language. Their target audience for something like this would be too small.

I buy the Japanese and English copies of all the games, so I really couldn't care less about English dialogue in my Japanese games.
