idunno, that seems like the exact kind of thing he SHOULD be doing if he's supposed to be as strong-willed and ballsy as you say he is in this (terrible) reimagining
My 3-chapter Izumi Noto fanfic is a better reimagining of a five minute irrelevant anime filler arc background character than the entirety of Rebuild of Evangelion is for Shinji. |
Cause everyone was disliking him, and he naturally and humanly has abit of it kick him down emotionally. Misato was one of few who actually gave a damn about his ass in the past, so he possibly had an inch of respect to her. Rei is gone, Mari has little attachment to him, and Asuka wasn't helping that much more aside from the ending in a small dosage.
Kaworu was one of the few who was much more kind to Shinji in his downtime where everyone just about shunned the poor kid. I didn't say he was badarse with a silver edged tongue, just that he had more balls. Shown when in the first 2 movies he's much more angry about everyone using him, and stood up to Gendo more.
I guess my wording was off, in Rebuild...Shinji just comes off to me as alot less of a little b***h and p***y.
Then again, as said....they dropped the ball on alot of stuff from then...for small bits of better, and many for the worse.

See, the thing is you're just trying to justify why he's a pansy ass ***** baby again.
That doesn't change the fact the second movie went out of the way to diverge his character into this ballsy angry action movie hero guy (which WAS one of the things the second movie actually did in a gradual process, albeit it still did it poorly) just to take a massive dump on everyone's expectations and default him back into being exactly what he already was.

He was still better in 3.0 than how his other incarnations would handle the situation. Like his moping that would've and could've been worse.

Can I just say that I think both Classic and Rebuild are terrible but Rebuild is at least entertainingly bad?

When is 3.0 going to be screened in North America? I know they did a limited run for the first and second movies. I missed the screening last weekend for that Poppy Hill movie from Ghibli last week.

The really brutal post that pulled a Total Eclipse episode 2 on me was when someone compared Rebuild to Prometheus.
I like Prometheus. I think it has an interesting atmosphere and a lot of pretty sci-fi set pieces. The 7-foot-tall Powder cosplayer guy getting in his cockpit and getting his "I'm gonna kill humanity" face on while a giant bubble of holographic screens surrounds him and the Harry Gregson-Williams score plays in the background was a creepy but awesome scene. Or just have the characters act in some way that a sane human being could relate to. But as I said in the Prometheus comparison, not even that's necessary if the movie looks pretty.
Although it was pretty cool how this was one of the last rebuttals I made while my Rebuild Hate ship was sinking:

That's basically a bull****ty way of saying characters never need any kind of backstory or actual depth when you can be lazy and just expect the audience to come up with everything.
Man, it's obvious why Rita Repulsa only ever attacks one city on the entire planet if you come up with your own convoluted reason in your head. You must be ****ing retarded for not thinking Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is cinematic brilliance.

I would of enjoyed a movie about Gendo and Fuyutsuki going on adventures with a donkey voiced by Eddie Murphy.
