A War Magus makes for a perfectly viable healer as well as Medic so why not either of those?

Either way I'll be lurking around and reading this, good luck!
War Magi are better used in place of a support character like the Troubador, in my opinion. They don't get Revive which is a pretty invaluable skill, so using one instead of a Medic is never a great idea.

It's only a problem if you're not supplementing yourself with Nectars, which would be a pain in the later games but in EO2 you don't have to go out gathering the supplies to make them constantly, so providing you're earning enough money it's fine.

Taking a War Magus over a Medic is actually a pretty typical set up for EO2 (one that I ran with plenty of success), it's just a more offensive set up than one with a Medic. Really they're pretty much designed as an alternative to a Medic and/or a Troubadour in the same way Gunner's are an alternative to an Alchemist, Dark Hunter and/or Hexer. Though War Magus's do have some dps capabilities too.

Beast aside (which I've never tried out) the other two new classes are meant as a more versatile choice, so naturally there's a bit of a trade off there.

A back row War Magus should work fine if it's purely geared for support and the Medic's going to be providing DPS (dunno about EO2 but frontline Medic's in EO1 were pretty handy).

: It's beautiful.
: Don't tell me you never visited the labyrinth before. What kind of explorer are you?
: But I'm not an explorer.
: Then why did you step on the explorers guild in the first place?
: I just wanted to know where's the hospital. And why am I on the front lines?

: Isn't that the soldier we are supposed to meet?
: Why are you ignoring me?

: The minister told us we have to draw a map of the first floor.
: Just follow me.

: Draw your map, and make your way to the entrance. And before I forget, here's something for novice explorers.

: The forest can be more dangerous than it looks. Always be on your guard while inside it.
: I have a bad feeling about this.

Forgot to take a screenshot before, but we started at B-4(1,4); and our objective (not pictured) is on D-3(1,1).

: How pretty!

: We'll watch them later, right now we have to find the entrance.

: I sense treasure~.
: I sense monsters.

: Three?! What should we do?
: Leave it to me!

: AAAAAAAAAAAHHH!
: aaahh
: Ha ha!

*Some time later*
: It took a while, but we're safe now.
: Where's Kibago?

: I knew it!

: Nectar?
: Thank God! Now we can revive Ran.
: Please, is not that she will die if we don't use it on her.
: ...
: Oops.

: I better mark that we opened it.

: Perfect!

: Wait. There's something to the left.

: We should take a look.

: Can we rest here for a moment?
: ...fine.

The party recover 10 HP and TP!

This is one of the things that change if you use the password from the first game.

If you don't use the password, you'll recover HP/TP.
If you use the password, you'll fight three Venomflies instead. SURPRISE!

: It could be worse.

: REVEEEEEEENGE!

: AAAAAAAAAAAHHH!
: aaahh
: Ha ha!

: WE DID IT!

: Ok, let me check your map.

: I'd say your mission to create a map of the Labyrinth's 1st floor is a success. The Minister will grant you citizenship to High Lagaard and full access to the Labyrinth.
My part is done. You may go on from here, but I suggest you report to the Minister first.

Next Update: Quests, deaths and FOEs.

I'm glad this isn't a Nuzlocke.

That would be impossible unless you set some extra rules about revive spells or items. This isn't like Pokemon where you can just catch a new Pokemon at a reasonable level; everybody's gonna start at level 1, and everybody's gonna die sometime.

You COULD potentially do a Nuzlocke run if you had a ****** of QR codes though. With the QR codes in EOIV you can bring a party member from a person's guild into yours as a guest, although they cannot gain levels (I haven't bothered to try it myself, but I assume you can make an entire party out of them.) Whenever one would die you could remove them from the guild and either use a new QR code or another party member from that guild, never using the dead person again.

A problem with this method is, QR codes are a thumbnail for a guild, frozen at the time of creation. There's no Spotpass component to update that information. So for one guild, you'd need a bunch of QR codes in progression for picking up a guest at the appropriate level. In addition only one party member can be registered as "guest-able" so you'd need multiple QR codes for one guild just to try out different members. This last paragraph is a small hurdle, but still an annoyance.
