This isn't a dual audio debate or an dub vs sub debate. Seriously, grow up.

Hostile much?
I get the impression that Flamfas was teasing him over something, so the reaction was kind of warranted.
No, it really isn't.

Don't encourage this guy's behavior. This guy, who gets overly offended by a small joke and tells someone else to grow up.

My point is that it sounds like there's some history behind Flamfas' comment and I'm giving Mr. Incorrect Subforum the benefit of the doubt. If it is indeed a joke based on MIS' posts in Tales subforums, then that's kinda uncool of Flamfas.

Xillia subforum, the locked topic. I think you'll understand then.

As for hidden language, does the Borginian version of Ace Attorney count? XD

I wonder what the reaction would be if the next PS3 Tales of game came out in Japan and US/EU within the same week, but was setup so regardless of what version of the game you buy, playing in US and EU consoles only gives English audio and subtitles, but playing in Japan/Asian consoles gives you the choice between any combination of Japanese and English.

I can already imagine tons of anger from people unknowingly paying $90 to import the game to get what is basically the US version, lol.

This issue is kind of nostalgic for me. Some of Namco Bandai's games in the past (Eternal Sonata and Vesperia, I believe) had a feature where you could download the Japanese demo, but playing it on a North American console would give you the English version of the game. This was likely done to save on any possible recertification issues when they got around to publishing it on our side of the pond; they already have a demo that is confirmed to work on NA consoles, so they don't have to wait for people to test it out. What this really meant is that we didn't have to wait for arbitrary delays mandated by either licensing or marketing, and we could have demos in English a week after the Japanese got them (Xbox Live Silver mandates that you have to wait a week to download new demos.) The only catch is the patience required to create a Japanese XBL account.

This wasn't perfect though. For instance, when I view Tales of Vesperia on my hard drive, the game's ID shows up in Japanese, presumably because I downloaded some free Japanese DLC before the NA release. Not sure if this is a bug for everybody, but it is for me, and deleting all the content and redownloading NA content only didn't fix things.

It'd be nice if somebody who's never used a Japanese account on their 360, but owns Vesperia could let me know what they see as its name under Storage in System Settings.

What region is your Xbox 360?

Also, to my knowledge, once the Xbox 360 decides the region of the dashboard gametag, it cannot be changed. Usually it does this based on either the language your 360 is set to, or the region. In your case though, the DLC you downloaded probably set it.

My 360's region is set to Canada. You don't have to change the region to make a Japanese XBL account and access their Marketplace.

I meant the region for gamediscs, like, NTSC, NTSC-J, PAL, etc. You can't "set" that, its set from the factory and you cannot change it.

It's NTSC if you bought it in Canada, though.

I just wanted to make sure you didn't have a JPN Xbox 360.

Having said that, yes you can make a Japanese XBL account and access their store, however most of the content on it is region locked and only works on a JPN 360 when accessed from a JPN IP address.

Thanks for not answering my question in any shape or form.

Yes, I have an NTSC 360 but I have both a Canadian account and a Japanese one, with which I download demos. I think for Vesperia I actually downloaded some of the free DLC thinking it would work here (and it probably would have, but I've since deleted everything and only downloaded NA content) so I'm wondering if somebody who HASN'T done that, sees Tales of Vesperia under Storage, or "テイルズ オブ ヴェスペリア".

The region I mentioned previous sets the system language and certain other system-level things. For instance, if you set the region to Japanese and unlock an achievement, that achievement will be in Japanese on your list. If you recover your profile under a specific region, all achievements are refreshed to the language of the region your console is set to. There's never any reason to change this unless you want to specify regional match-making options.

I actually had something similar happen with Soul Calibur V.

I had my PS3 system language set to Japanese when I first booted the game (only way to use the Japanese keyboard, which I needed to talk to people in certain online games I was playing).

As a result, it installed the trophies in Japanese. Even after setting my system back to English, the trophies for that game still remain in Japanese.

To answer your question though, yes, I have tried the USA Tales of Vesperia on my console before, and it showed up in English as "Tales of Vesperia". This was on a NTSC-J 360 with the language set to English and a Canadian XBL account.

Also, it is worth noting that Tales of Vesperia contains code to allow for multiple audio and subtitle tracks. I am under the impression that, at some point, the game was going to have both Japanese and English audio and subtitles and just let you choose between them, but they canned that idea at the last minute. The demo being multilingual is further evidence of this.

Also, if you rip the game onto your computer and look at the anime movie files, you will find that they have both English and Japanese audio in them.

I am thinking that certain remnants of the game's bilingual programming were left in the final game, and that is why the US version still has the Japanese title data as well as Japanese trophies on it.
