What would the Tales of Games be like if you'd exchange the main characters of the games? If their personality is left intact, how would the new protagonist interact with the main cast? How would the story change through his or her presence?

When discussion dies down, I'll post the next combination, but for now:

Tales of Symphonia with Luke fon Fabre
Instead of Lloyd Irving

Ready? Set! Go!

Luke stays in Iselia for the whole game because no one wanted to be friends with him, causing him to just be a background character while Colette goes off and gets turned into Martel's vessel with no protagonist protection power. Mithos' plan succeeds, but Martel tells him off as she does in the normal story, he goes screwy and leaves with the Great Seed and Derris-Kharlan, and both halves of Aselia go extinct, although the party never even learns of other half's existence.

Along the way Sheena is probably killed by Kratos as he is leading the escort effort without a protagonist in tow and is unlikely to just let her roam around free.

Kvar is still sliced to ribbons by Kratos.

So basically, Symphonia with Luke means Symphonia if there was no main character at all.

Wow that's morbid.

I was kinda hoping for a scenario in which Luke would go with Colette.

Ok then, lets say Colette and Genis are childhood friends of Luke, with no explanation as to why just like with Lloyd and that, since losing his memory, Luke has been raised by a dwarf with no knowledge of his real family. Perhaps he thinks they're dead.

Luke goes to the temple solely because class bores him. He cannot fight the Vidarr and must be saved by Kratos. Everything goes down as before until they leave, except with even more dislike of Kratos.
To Luke's annoyance, Genis tags along on his way home, dragging him off route to the local ranch. Luke tries to stop him interfering but Genis insists and Luke is then jumped on by desians. He glows a bit though and they all run off, scared.
Luke is a jackass and doesn't even care about Colette's birthday. Still, because she's overly caring and Luke hates the desians (he just hates everyone really), she invites him to join her on her journey.
Luke wakes up late, having been told the wrong time, Genis thinks he just slept in like he always does, never thinking about anyone but himself. The two argue for some time but finally make it to Iselia to find the place on fire.
It has been ransacked by desians and their leader shows up, demanding Luke's presence. Luke complains that everyone always pins these things on him, before blacking out at something Forcystus says.
Sheena, having come to Iselia to find the chosen, instead finds a dusty wasteland with a well dressed young swordsman lying in the centre. Upon finding he's still alive, she stays in Iselia's remains to take care of him, making excuses and leaving as soon as he wakes up, about a week later.
Luke then sets out to find his friends, grumbling the whole way about "this mess he's in". He gets caught by desians the instant he shows up at a town.

And I'm not sure where to go from here. Do Colette, Genis, Kratos and Raine save him even though he's destroyed their home town? Does one of the desians mention the incident, sending him into his excessively long self pitying sorrow wallow that ends in hair cutting?

Genis ends up going to visit Marble alone at the Desian ranch because Luke gives zero ****s about old slave people, and Genis is caught and we never see him again.

Sounds legit to me.

(honestly not much would change because if all Luke is doing is switching places then technically he would be raised the same way Lloyd was and probably be pretty similar and a lot different than the Luke we know in Abyss)

I was actually thinking of leaving the personalities intact, kinda like Ryuu did.
I should've cleared that up.

Though Genis dying at the start of the game is a very probable turn of events indeed.

Well, without Lloyd/Luke Genis would not have talked so long to Marble (there would not be a discussion about Expheres) and so maybe had left sooner than in the real game.

About changing characters. Wouldn't it much more "fun" to switch Colette and Luke? Both are kind of "chosen" to do stuff. That would fit more with Luke's behavoir, too, imo.

Oh! Good point. I'll keep that in mind for the next combinations (and probably revisit luke instead of colette later).

Why would Mithos put his sister in Luke's body?

So, let's say Luke does the whole sorrow wallow thing and the rest of the party move on without him. They find the ruins, beat Ktugatch, receive Colette's angel wings and progress onwards over the ossa trail.

Meanwhile, Luke gains his resolve to change and, with that powerful desire behind him, manages to dissolve the bars of his cell in light. He has no idea what he's just done but doesn't have time to stop and consider it. He grabs his equipment and makes a run for the nearest door.
Now trapped in a room with two raybits and a couple of "desians", Luke resorts to violence (he's not good at hiding), since his attempts to change mean he'll now happily harm people or something. The alarm goes off but, amazingly, this works to his advantage. All the ridiculous safety measures are disabled to aid the search for the escapee, making his exit far more straightforward.
Sick of the desert (hardly changed at all), Luke heads for the nearest way out, the ossa trail.

Sheena makes her dash towards Colette, attempting to kill her as in the real game, when Luke enters. Colette turns towards him, about to welcome him back, all misdeeds forgotten, when she trips on a small lever, sending the assassin plummeting into a maintenance shaft.
Colette is all apologetic and worried about the poor woman, sure it was all just a misunderstanding. Luke tries to explain the real situation to her but gives up pretty quickly, frustrated with her inability to listen.
The party moves on, begrudgingly dragging Luke along at Colette's request.

@Ryuuka: How would Luke and Zelos interact?
