They're succumbing to COD/madden syndrome where they poop out games that are identical to their last games(aka engine reusage/ports/remakes). If you include phantasia dungeon x and other side games that's like 8 side games and 2 new real games. One of which is not even in english yet. What if every 4 years they made games like FF12 and FF13 but also then made FF13-2, FF13-3, FF13-4, FF13-5, FF13-6, etc?

Are you new to video games or something?

How the heck can you look at spinoffs and side games with the same disdain as upscaled ports and remakes? Your complaint about remakes are that they're too much of the same, while the entire point of spinoffs is to make something DIFFERENT.

I see Aggression stays true to the name. I suggest Anger Management as the next one should you ever want to change it.

We could have 24 amazing motherships by now but instead we have 8 more spinoffs and ports that no one will buy.

COD Syndrome. It's a lazy quick buck. If they're remade or ports at LEAST make them half the price of the original game. It costed them a few thousand bucks to make those ports on the psp but they still sold them for standard psp prices. When pikmin 1 and 2 were ported to the Wii they were only 20 bucks. That's ports done right.

You missed the point.

You were complaining about remakes and ports being lazy cash-ins because they are identical to past games, yes?

But one sentence later you've lumped spinoffs together with those remakes and ports, when the entire point of a spinoff is to do something different, and is thus the polar opposite of a lazy cash-in identical to past games. How does that make sense?

Sure, because remaking a GB game to the PSP; or a DS game to the Vita using a new engine is cheap.

It costed them a few thousand bucks to make those ports on the psp but they still sold them for standard psp prices. When pikmin 1 and 2 were ported to the Wii they were only 20 bucks. That's ports done right.

- There are 14 mothership titles, 15 if Tempest R gets developped, 16 if there's indeed a new Tales coming up.

- Spinoffs are usually aimed at other gamers then the main crowd and they are good to attract new players as well.

- Ports are good, but only if there's a good addition for people to buy it. Making Abyss portable on the 3DS is a good reason.

- The COD Syndrome is actually shipping a new game that was just reskinned with new maps and weapons without addressing the major faults with the previous games and innovating upon each iteration. When Black Ops 2 got praised, people literally critizised the reviewERS for praising such rehashes and claiming that they got paid to give them high scores that they probably don't deserve.

- Comparing the Tales games to COD is an insult. Tales always adds new elements to the gameplay, always revamps the graphics, always change the character designs, always offers a brand new world to explore and always offer a different story. COD never addresses the linearity of their levels, never addresses the absent story, never addresses the characters, never addresses the lack of innovation and always put a lot of emphasis on multiplayers and DLC.

- Remakes and ports cost money, and they are not gonna be half price. Your Pikmin examples are actually exceptions.

I don't know if just remaking Tempest will get rid of its terrible escort status...

I'm up for cheap ports on the PSN tho. I really would take any of the psp ports.

Or even the ps2 ones. As long as theyre also playable on the vita.

There are 16 main titles, currently. If Xillia 3 gets released, 17 titles.
Symphonia 2 is originally developed as Escort, Tempest is an awful game and it gets demoted to Escort.
World and Fandom are spin-off from Escort titles.

16???

Phantasia
Destiny
Eternia
Destiny 2
Symphonia
Rebirth
Legendia
Abyss
Innocence
Vesperia
Hearts
Graces
Xillia
Xillia 2

That's 14. Tempest and DotNW are escort/spin-off titles, not main games. They are heavily represented in other Tales games, but they're not main games.

Tempest could have been if they actually made it work properly and DotNW could have been if it was either a full-fledged sequel (world map, no monster catching, being able to level up the Symphonia cast normally, etc; y'know, similar to Xillia 2) or a completely new game, as DotNW was supposed to be a new Tales game before being converted to a Symphonia sequel. It went Dinosaur Planet on us.
