Cedric is holding a maid captive.

Cedric: Life's not fair. You see I, well I will never be king. And you...

Cedric unsheathes his sword. The maid is scared.

Cedric: ...You will never live to see another day. Adieu.

Dalen steps in.

Dalen: Didn't your mother teach you how to treat a lady?

Cedric is annoyed.

Cedric: What do you want?

Dalen: I'm here to announce His Highness King Ferdinand IV is on his way, so you'd better have a good excuse for not showing up for the birth and baptism of Richard.

Dalen approaches the maid and sets her free.

Dalen: I am so sorry miss.

The maid runs off.

Cedric: Well now you made me lose my interest in her.

Dalen: You'll lose more than that once the king gets here. He's angrier than a dragon with a hangnail.

Cedric: Oh, I quiver in fear!

Cedric places his sword at Dalen's throat. Frederic enters.

Ferdinand: Cedric, drop the sword.

Dalen: Good timing, your Highness.

Cedric drops his sword.

Cedric: Well, if it isn't my brother here to mingle with the commoners.

Ferdinand: My wife and I didn't see you at the birth of Richard.

Cedric: That was today? Oh, I feel simply awful!

Cedric hurls his sword at the wall.

Cedric: Must have slipped my mind.

Dalen: As slippery as your mind is as the king's brother you should have been first in line.

Cedric: Oh I was first in line, until the little brat is born.

Ferdinand: That brat is my son, and your future king.

Cedric: Oh, well I shan't forget to practice my curtsey.

Cedric turns around.

Ferdinand: Don't turn your back on me, Cedric.

Cedric: Oh no, It's you who shouldn't turn their back on me.

Ferdinand draws his sword.

Frederic: Is that a challenge?!

Cedric: Temper temper. I wouldn't dream of challenging you.

Dalen: Why not?

Cedric: Well as far as brains go I was gifted but when it comes to brute strength, I'm afraid I'm at the shallow end of the gene pool.

Cedric walks out of his room. Ferdinand sheathes his sword.

Dalen: There's one in every family. Two in mine actually, and they always seem to spoil special occasions such as these.

Ferdinand: What am I going to do with him.

Dalen: He likes maids, why not make him one?

Ferdinand: Dalen.

Dalen: And just think, you can have him dust with a paintbrush.
