If Namco only translated the text and kept the japanese voices (like the works of Absolute Zero), would you still buy the games?

I'm making this question because I realized I liked it better playing with no english voices, like when I played Eternal Sonata. And because I thought Milla's voice from the preview of Xillia sounded like a 40 yold woman, which I HOPE doesn't make me stop playing it (bad voice acting makes me sick sometimes). But I'm not saying all voice actings are bad, I really liked the VA in Tales of Vesperia (SHINING FAANG.. DROP!), but I simply HATED it in Graces f, which made my experience that much worse.

IMHO, the standard should be Japanese dub/eng sub for localizations, then they could make a patch later with english voices for those who like them.

It would make the game initially cheaper, would ship it faster and everybody would be happier.

What do you think?

Considering that I turn the event/battle voices off I'd still play the tales of games if released in North America even with Japanese text.

BUT ONLY if the Arte/spells/AI tactics menu screens are still in English text.

Thanks, I'm reading though the replys of that topic now.

And whoa, so much hate for that guy, it's almost funny.

Oh well, maybe it's time to start learning japanese, in 10 years I can just import the games and be cool with it.

As someone who watches a lot of animes, I can't say I'm too happy with english dubs, I always prefer japanese dubs, even though SOME english dubs are fine.

I definitely would. I import titles that very likely won't come over/probably won't because it's been years anyways, so it's no different. I do definitely prefer everything in English though

English voices are almost always bad. Although I'd rather not read off a script.

Where's the "Yes, but I don't care either way" option?

Seconding Yume. So long as I can understand it, I don't mind reading.

I'm sorry you don't enjoy Tales dubs? They're generally more than decent with a few exceptions (Asbel's voice is one).

Do we really need another topic to debate whether or not dubs are good?

Let's just keep that to the voice complaint thread on the Xillia board.

Let's take the voice complaints out of this forum altogether ;_;

This discussion will only get annoying if people start debating that their preference is better than another, which is not up for debate in the first place. There will always be those who blindly prefer Japanese voices because "THAT'S THE ONLY WAY TO ENJOY SOMETHING JAPANESE!!"

Like Yume and everyone else who is sane and has logical opinions, I don't care either way. If a game came in dual audio and both voice tracks are good, I'd stick with the dubs by default. If the dub is atrocious or subpar then I'll stick with subs. Isn't life simple?!

Your accusations of sanity do not please me but, that aside, I have to disagree with the second part of your above quote. I would play with English dub the first play through, then Japanese dub after. It helps spice things up a bit. Keep it fresh, y'know?
If you have 2 good dubs, where's the sense in sticking to one of them?

I'd probably buy the Japanese release anyway in that case. I don't like playing in Japanese with English subs, I need the text to match the voices or else I get driven crazy.
So...where's the "No, because I have weird issues" choice? Laughing
