...I'd say it's more of a Power Metal scent with a touch of Symphonic Metal and a subtle hint of Nu Metal.

OH, I just realized I was really unclear. I meant in reference to Yuan only. Not the other characters. Zelos probably smells like L'oreal, Lloyd smells like bacon, Kratos smells like Old Spice... Regal smells like money.

As for the smell question... *digs around in mind for content of old character sheet filled out*
For Botta, I took really stinging aftershave (the stuff that makes you cough and burns in the eyes), as well as an everlasting touch of soil, sand, dust and, occasionally, sweat.
For Yuan... I came up with the smell of fresh, clean clothes. And possibly a bit of cologne. And traces of Botta's aftershave... 
Thinking of other characters now...
Genis definitely smells like warm milk. You know, like babies do. (X'D) His favourite ingredient is milk and I always find that some boys, even in their teens and beyond, who really have this... yeah, smell of warm milk. (I actually like it - but it's more of a motherly-instinct-inducing smell than anything else, I suppose. xDD)
Raine... lemon perfume. No question. Oh, and old ruins, I suppose? xD But when she doesn't crawl around in those, lemon perfume.
Colette smells like something fruity, possibly with a hint of honey. She loves fruits and everything, so I suppose she'd like their smell on them as well. Maybe she'd also wear a hint of flowery perfume when she's older.
EDIT: I just realised that Yuan also has to smell quite a lot like forest or leaves, what with all the bushes he's been constantly hiding in to stalk people.

I kid you not.
There's a little scratchy-sniffy maple leaf on the new polymer bills, the 20$ and 100$ smell like maple and the 50$ smells like vanilla.
We don't have new 5$ and 10$ yet. 
I'm on it!

I'm amazed he's allowed to just ask us. Usually when assigned an essay, they want sources that can be easily looked up by the teacher/professor/instructor/whatever (Book title, author, page number, or if you're using a website, a URL, and they all need to be considered a decent source). Forum posts don't normally count as a good source, so...

You all have valid points. I'm a little skeptical about all this too. Wouldn't he have at least done some researches first...? It's not even "I'm a little confussed about this detail, could you explain what happened exactly?" but more like "Write my essay!". ...I'm not sure how I feel about this.
In my time, we didn't have Google or Wikipedia to write our essays. We had to walk to the library. 10 miles back and forth. Barefoot. In the snow.
