So escorting a girl around is the new it thing for 2013 in gaming. While I'm still in the middle of ushering Elizabeth around Columbia, I'm looking forward to my next trip with Ellie. I guess when you're in a zomb...er, fungal apocalypse, nobody really cares about the awkwardness of walking around with a young girl and possibly being seen as pedo.

That new trailer looks really hot, but man... the violence caught me off guard. It's not as gruesome as Tomb Raider or as bloody as Bioshock Infinite. Rather it's just how subtle the machete attack was that's unsettling for me. I think BI's execution was a bit more cartoonish and TR pushes it to a fetish.

This looks even better than it did during E3 last year. I am definitely gonna have to get my hands on this when it comes out.

So the demo with God of War Ascension is out. Unfortunately, I just sold that last week so I'll just wait out the extra couple of weeks. The multiplayer looks like more Uncharted, which is just fine since the UC multiplayer is fantastic.

And the amazing reviews are coming in.

Turns out that, following Bioshock: Infinite's precedent, Emotionally Engaging Ellen Page Escort Simulator is this week's Citizen Kane moment of video games

Truly, to produce multiple Citizen Kanes per year, games are clearly the greatest art form humanity knows, **** you dad

Yeah, seriously. The reviews are all gold stars, perfect tens, and A+'s. I can't wait. I might hit my indie shop and see if they got it in early.

Super is still the best Emotionally Engaging Ellen Page Escort Simulator released so far.

Pre-ordered on a whim today. Apparently I am going to get some skins which is, you know, pretty cool. I like me some skins, keeps all the guts in the right places. That said, I'm going to continue ignoring most of the information coming out about the game save the few very impressive trailers I saw a while back. See where that gets me.

Having just completed The Walking Dead though, it'll be interesting to see how the whole "Guy escorting young girl who is not his daughter but to whom he is a father figure though a zombie apocalypse" thing goes. Jimbob's trademarked hyperbolic cynicism aside, it does seem that gaming has latched onto a convention of building emotional attachment through companions and escort characters that follow you through the entire game in the past couple of years.

That said, I don't have major issues with the technique and think it's a powerful tool for building on singular interpersonal relationships. Designers will just have to be careful about overusing it or limiting such interactions to simple archetypal relationships.
