Baba talking about Japanese games "slowly making a resurgence." Hoping that he's right. |
Sorry for quoting an old post but Baba say's "With regards to the Tales franchise, we've never made an effort to 'westernize' it," If this was true why do they change the original Japanese openings then? Especially back then when they were changed to orchestral music with sounds effects... _________________ ~Aerith Gainsborough~

What he meant by not "westernizing" is that the games are developed with appealing to Japan in mind and that they don't factor in appealing to NA/EU when they originally develop the games. i.e. they don't throw in western tropes to appeal to our audiences (loads of guns, open world setup, etc.).
When they localize it, of course they are westernizing it to a certain degree; they change the language. _________________

They pretty much don't want their games turning into Skyrim or Fallout 3. _________________

Oh I see, well that explains that, thanks! But honestly I wished they's just use the original openings. I don't mind using English versions, or instrumental (Abyss and Radiant Mythology). It's the orchestral w/sound effect openings I just really DON'T like. And besides wouldn't it be cheaper to just keep the Japanese openings, versus re-singing them into English or Orchestral versions...?
And please don't think I'm bashing the orchestral openings if you like them. I'm just saying my opinion, they're terrible imo. Wish I could enjoy them _________________ ~Aerith Gainsborough~

How a game-mechanic like "open world" being considered as western? I can understand story tropes for cultural purposes, but Japan did (and doing) open world games too.
For them is really this risky adding such mechanic to the next games of the series? _________________

Not necessarily. Depends on the licensing fees. It's not because it's "already there" that bringing it to another region is free. Same with the original voice track. _________________

It's not so much risky as changing the appeal of the game. They want to make the games for the same people. _________________

I see, so would it be cheaper to re-sing the openings in English? There's just some Japanese artist who can't sing English like Ayumi so that could become a problem. As for the dual audio I don't think that is needed to be honest and the English voices has been pretty good! _________________ ~Aerith Gainsborough~

In fact, I'm surprised they didn't do that instead. |
Tales x Lucky Star would be great. _________________
