|
|
| Quote: | A week after one of the world's biggest game publisher's lost its CEO, it's happened again. Yoichi Wada has stepped down as Square Enix CEO after the company revised it's full year financial forecast down by ¥16.5 billion. That's a big change that takes the forecast out of profit and firmly into an annual loss, and is apparently due to lackluster console title sales outside of Japan since the last forecast in October last year.
Wada has held the position of CEO for 13 years, after joining Square Enix in April 2000 and being elected to the head of the company in December that year. His replacement is Yosuke Matsuda.
The news comes along with the release of a revision to the company's consolidated results forcast, which estimates losses for the financial year of approximately ¥13 billion. The factors blamed include slow sales of "major console titles in North American and European Markets" as well as poor arcade machine performance.
The report also mentions an 'extraordianry loss of approximately ¥11 billion due to restructuring efforts" in response to these poor sales. Judging by the numbers in the report it seems the bulk of the losses will be caused by this restructuring. |

I don't know much about all this CEO and business stuff but what I do know ever since he became CEO of Square Enix things have turn from good, bad, to worse. Could he be the one to blame. Many people are thrilled about this news. _________________ ~Aerith Gainsborough~

Sounds great to me. Let's hope the new guy does a better job. A single person can't received all the blame though. They should change their company game back to Squaresoft and fire all the incompetent producers and directors whom simply can't finish a 6 year old project. _________________ "Don't let it end like this...Tell them I said something." This is the same guy who thought their way handling of Versus XIII was good, and has been milking Lightnings controversial t**s instead.
Good riddance. _________________

This could have been avoided if they had just put Serah on the cover art of Final Fantasy XIII-2. _________________ SOON.

Then they would literally have nobody to make any games because all their talent left before the merger (and not because of the merger, either).
Enix has nothing to do with Square screwing up, either. They merged with Square because they were trying to get the worldwide success Square was experiencing. That never happened. Enix has had no hand in the development of Square's games. They have their own games to worry about. It was Sony who bailed Square out when The Spirits Within bombed. Enix did not want to merge with Square at first because that movie bombed, but when Square bounced back with Kingdom Hearts and FFX, they changed their minds. |

He became CEO in December 2000. Less than a year is not enough to change a game that was surely well underway by that time. _________________ Gaming in 2013:

I thought what they did outside of Japan was pretty good. The Eidos purchase saved them from THQ's fate and they got some good titles from it. Just Cause 2, Batman Arkham Asylum, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Hitman Absolution and Tomb Raider. _________________

I'm actually not even talking just about him.
It also has the same director as the Lightning Saga. _________________
