His name's probably gonna be Yuri, Yosuke, or Simon...

I hate when they localize people's names. It's not because someone's name's Paulo in Brazil it'll change to Paul when he's on US. _________________

This is reminding me of the Digimon dub
And Colour, unless the translators are Tales fans, they've probably not played the game and don't know the name's significance. That would be Namco JP's role to tell them, so either they asked for the change, either they didn't care. _________________

Ivar is a pretty common name in the Netherlands at least.
I hope they leave it as is. _________________ Also known as Sliv, Slivvie, Quilvius, Slivendiferious, and slivijizzisious

lol yes! Ibar or Ibarl wtf
I'm still happy about Xillia coming but it's so weird that they are suddenly changing the place names so drastically...:/ _________________

Chances are they're westernizing the location names in an effort to "branch out" with the series or something
we can't have an interesting fantasy game take place in anywhere other than Europe apparently _________________

I know you guys are probably just messing around, but I think we all need to just chill out a bit. Altering a couple of names is not really that big a deal. There has to be a reason why they would do this, and I think we'll find out once the game's released.
I doubt it's just translation incompetence. Namco's not really like that most of the time. |

I'm personally fine with the changes
since the changes aren't only really obscuring the real world references
The new names still have basis in the original and probably won't affect the in-game lore behind the names.
Fenn = Fan, Sharil = Scharl, and so on
and Nia Keria is phonetically identical to Ni Akeria so there's no real problem there _________________

I'm sad about the loss of references, but what really disappoints me is the loss of the Asian feel of the game. I didn't mind Kijara that much, but Fennmont and Sharilton are way too western. Xillia's uniqueness was that it wasn't a standard European medieval fantasy setting like the others. Plus, some of the place names have their own lore within the game.
And it's not just the names. If Lunar's transcription of Arrivederci's incantation is right, they're bringing in concepts like "sinful" and "fallen" which did not exist in Xillia's universe. And the incantation was originally about wind and flowers. Not even Symphonia's liberal incantation translations went that far in changing the meaning. Here they're even changing the theme.
It's really, really weird, because they've never done that before. _________________

We're not sure about that, yet. The name's Fernmont and Nachtigal's first name is confirmed to be the same. Fern sounds really awkward as a last name and I'm not sure why couldn't use "Fan".
edit: Nevermind. Didn't realize it was Fennmont and not Fernmont. Still don't see the problem with keeping Nachty's Chinese surname.

Nia Khera. I thought that change was kinda silly given how straight forward it was in Japanese.
I agree entirely with Yume's post. _________________ Icon via iconography. |

Like I said, chances are they're trying to westernize the game to try and make it more appealing to a broader audience
and if that succeeds at the cost of the game itself losing some character then so be it _________________

I think people would be more interested in an Asian-inspired setting than the same old European fantasy stuff, but whatever. Unless it's China or Japan, Asia is very underrepresented in video games. _________________ Icon via iconography. |

especially people who play video games
you really overestimate video gamers _________________

It's sad that broadening the market must come at the cost of the original's character.
This reminds me of the Digimon/Yu-Gi-Oh/etc dubs. I thought we were past that, but it seems I was wrong... _________________
