lol

Like Tenshi, part of the reason Tales is a favorite for me is because they are STILL making good games. Same cant be said of all RPG series of the past

Tales is actually my second favourite xD KH being first and Persona being 3rd. Though to be fair, its not because everything thing else ran into the ground, I never really tried much else. Final Fantasy is a very close 4th, its only not high because I only like, like half the entries (V, VI, IX, VII universe, X universe, XIII universe, and Dissidia universe) and pretty much really dislike the rest.

Tales is indeed consistently good though, I've only been mildly displeased so far by how bad Tales of VS turned out to be (aside from awesome Wild Geese and PoM animations) and the lines taken out of ToHR. Though for the latter, being a Key fan, I'm used to some really awesome lines being lost in adaptation and other really awesome factoids thrown in xD

I think localization future is positive as a whole from here, Baba seems pretty enthusiastic, and the fans that are outraged for whatever reason on any site I'm on are a minority. I'm definitely expecting ToX2 in the next 1-3 years, but we'll see just how well Xillia does.

Actually kinda disappointed you didn't list Final Fantasy IV as one of the ones you liked, Shiv. Sad

Though to be honest, nostalgia goggles may be a huge factor into why I love IV so much.

IV is actually the one I have the least information on, a friend played it and found it kind of bland, but I'm thinking of playing the DS version one day if I have time ~ I really like Kain from what I've seen of his character development, as well as Rydia.

FFIV is basically the game that spawned a lot of JRPG tropes, i think... it had a crapton of scripted battles, plot tweests, personal drama, a greater focus on plot and characterization, those awesome damage numbers doing the wave, the knight-white mage relationship, 3 different world maps (though, i guess FFIII technically sort of had 3 as well, if you count underwater as one...), ninjas throwing excaliburs, flying whales, space dragons, etc. etc.

i have a lot of nostalgia for the game, but i think almost none of it is unfounded.

It's Namco fault that the games have poor sales, they made a mistake by not localizing more games.

The games have poor sales because no one buys them. You vote with your wallet. If you buy something, that tells the creators of what you buy that you enjoy it and want more. Thus, they will make more.

Before you complain that Tales of X isn't localized and Namco is stupid for it, you should support the series and buy what is released, if not to broaden your interest in the series then to tide you over while you support the series in hopes of more games.

Yet it could be argued that no one buys them because the series was horribly mishandled by Namco in the past. Some would say it still is today, at least by Namco's US branch.

It's not really fair to lump in the less appealing spinoffs and then not account for other series' entire track records, though.

but just about every series that guy listed aren't series clogged down with crap low budget entries flooding the market(except maybe FF, which even then keeps a much higher level of spinoff quality in general) so there really wasn't much reason to mention them.

Mm, that'd be up for debate. He included several big series in there like Pokemon and Dragon Quest, and not every entry or spinoff in those have exactly been home runs, and the others are smaller series, making it unfair to compare the creams of their crop to the dregs of this one.

Pokemon maybe, but the Dragon Quest series spinoffs are generally fine and much better than what Tales puts out. And it's completely fair if we're discussing series quality; if a series makes more games and ends up worse for it, that's going to make it objectively lower quality as a franchise rather than making a bunch of really high quality games and knowing where to stop instead of polluting one's own franchise with low budget garbage.

I think the Final Fantasy brand is slowly learning this lesson.
